Hello all. I wouldn't consider myself to be good at things like this, but here it goes. I'm Kevin from Colorado. I am 23 years old and have been chewing for about 5 years now. Reading through other stories, it seems like I have been chewing a small amount of time, but I feel stopping that number at 5 could save my life.
I am about to graduate from school in mechanical engineering and have my whole life ahead of me. I see this as starting a new chapter in my life and this change would be the best imaginable start for me.
I've tried doing this on my own a few times, but failed in my attempts. I think my failures rooted in me having no one to connect with on what I am going through and that's what brings me here.
Today is the beginning of a tobacco free life for me and I thank you all in advance for helping me through this.
Kevin

Well, if you're looking for people who know how you feel, then you've come to the right place. Welcome aboard, I look forward to quitting with you.
-
I applaud you for being smart enough to give up the death weed early and sure as hell wish I would of done the same. I like your thought of starting a new chapter in your life but remember to just worry about today. Post everyday, use the tools provided and get some phone numbers.
First things first, you need to post roll. PM if you need help.
-
Welcome. Post roll, make some contacts, and spend as much time here as possible. It works. Glad to be quitting with you today.
-
Kevbot, you are at the right place and I couldn't agree more...quit now! Read the Welcome center and post roll.

Day two and things are already tougher than I thought. Definitely missing the sensation of having a dip in my mouth. Has anyone had success with the non tobacco herbal chews? Or maybe similar substitutions to fill the oral fixation? I have problems with my jaw and unfortunately cannot chew sunflower seeds.
One thing that really surprises me is I'm (as hard as it is to admit) scared to quit. The idea of having to go without a chew for the rest of my life seems like one of the hardest challenges I'll ever face.
Maybe I'm building this up to be more than it really is, but I can tell this is going to take all of me to kick this habit.
-
That fear dies down quickly once you start doing the routine "dip activities" without them. At the beginning I told myself "how can I do ___ without nic"? Easy, you just do it. Then it becomes the norm. That idea of "how can I last forever without nic" is simply addiction speak. Don't worry about forever, we quit one day at a time and that's all you need to focus on - today.
Stay strong and stay quit. Welcome to KTC (:

A lot of people use the herbal chew with great success. Fireballs are good too. What's the matter with your jaw?

Kev,
It's only as hard as you let it be. Take it personally and get mad at nicotine. She is trying to kill you.
Of course your scared. Your scared that you can't do this, that you can't beat the nic bitch. But you can. When those craves get tough, you gotta get tougher. Take a few deep breaths and it will pass. But if you cave....that will not pass. It will get better but take everything as it comes and crawl all over this sight.
Sending you a PM with my digits. Let me know if you need anything.
-
Kev,
Consider yourself lucky or smart, maybe both that you want to quit and you found KTC. Man I would have given a lot of money to someone other than US Tobacco if I would have been smart enough to quit only 5 years in. Had I found KTC sooner it might have saved me some cash and wasted time. Use whatever you need for the oral fixation as long as it does not contain the nicotine. I used Smokey Mountain, Fireballs and went Kojak for a while with blow pops. Whatever you need to keep the turd out of your lip man. Stay here, drink the koolaid and only worry about your quit today and you can make it with us. We do this together brother..........
I quit with you today!
-
Glad you're here man! Stay strong, we're all in this together and we all got your back. If you need anything man, don't hesitate to get a hold of me. I too, quit with you today!

Woooooo now! Emulator hit the nail on the head. Slow your roll my friend. Nobody, I mean nobody is asking you to quit forever. Post roll and quit for today, that's all anyone is asking. It's so much easier to look at this one day at a time.
Not going to lie, quitting is going to be one of the most difficult things you will ever face, but you will do it. 1000's have used this site to quit. Your no different than each and everyone of us.
I thought the same way as you. I thought, how is this even possible? Listen to my next statement. VERY IMPORTANT! The hardest part of quitting is believing it's possible and you can do it. Once you get over that hurdle it begins getting easier and easier.
Things will get better fast, believe it. Believe in yourself!
If you haven't, begin reading everything you can on addiction/nicotine. There is a lot of information on this site. Learn your enemy, it knows you. Begin knowing what to expect each step of the way. It's time to begin taking the fight to the enemy. For years you have let the poison sucker punch, kick and lead you around by a chain. By learning about your enemy you know when, how and what's coming. Lets take the fight to it for a change. Quit with you. Need another number let me know.

You've been given a lot of very good advice. Smokey Mountian turned out to be a lifesaver for me. I used it for a little over 100 days and then just lost interest. As far as forever, forget it! The all famous "Serinity Prayer" has a very much less known line;Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; I can testify to the truth of this, pre-quitting I either lived in the past or the future and never had the peace I can enjoy now.

Wow guys. I am overwhelmed with all of the support and positive feedback I have received. This is incredible. My confidence has gone up exponentially since my last post yesterday.
Thank you all for your support. It's only been a couple days and I am already feeling more confident I can do this.
Yesterday was a tobacco free day. About to do the same thing today.

I have severe TMJ. I get daily jaw pain and migraines as a result. Avoiding things like sunflower seeds and constantly moving my jaw help my symptoms.

Congrats on Day 3, kevbot! Pretty soon the nicotine will be clear of your system. Keep quitting the good quit!

Congrats on 4 days! I had trouble sleeping early on ... Take advantage of that time and read the site. You will learn a whole bunch and it will wear you down eventually.
You are winning today. Freedom from nicotine is a beautiful thing. Finish off the day strong. Quit!

Never said it, but one of the reasons I quit was a very suspicious sore in my mouth. Got it checked today and it's nothing of concern. Excited to no longer live in fear of every damn sore bump etc that pops into my mouth. Comin up on a week. Couldn't be more proud.

Congrats Kev. Don't be surprised if you have other sores over the next weeks of quitting your mouth is going through some serious healing and changing.

I saw your post in Roll today. Going off grid in Vegas makes no damn sense. Going off grid in the Rocky Mountains makes sense. If your serious about your quit and don't want anymore of those "scares" then you best find a way to Post Roll while in Vegas. We have had enough cavers lately. Don't want anymore.

No kidding. You'll be surrounded by gambling, drinking, smoking, dipping... this is NOT the time to go off the grid, it's the time to do the opposite.
A lot of people find KTC after a cancer scare. When it turns out to be nothing, their drive (fear) fades away and their addiction takes over. 7 days is awesome, man, but you have a big test in front of you.

Annual Fishing trip is coming up for me in April. One week in a campground that has no cell service. We have gone to same place for 20 years. This year I changed the site to a campground nearer Mt. Shasta so I can text Pbrain easlily so he can post for me. What is more important than quitting? "Going off the Grid"!?????? STUPID and DANGEROUS.

"scared to quit"...."rest of my life"? Really? Read some of the posts about losing loved ones to cancer and then you'll understand what being scared means. Scared(still scares) the shit out of me!
I'm no expert, but I will tell you what I did to combat the "oral fixation". I went to a store named "Cheap Tobacco" and bought 1 tin of each fake chew they sold. The old lady must have thought I was nuts. I didn't care because I needed that fix too. I get it. Half of the stuff I bought tastes like shit, but if I remember correctly, my first real dip didn't taste all that great either.
Hang in there. It'll get better. We're here for you.
-
Here goes nothing? More like, "here goes everything"
You can do this. Follow the plan and you will be free from this garbage.
-
Fellow Junie...let's do this together. Let's be quitters!!

I guess by now you have either found some fake chew or you have decided to go at this thing without it.
I use the Smokey Mtn wintergreen and the Hooch Cherry Rough Cut. I dipped skoal cherry for a long time. The cherry flavored Hooch isn't the same by any means, but it does have a flavor that I like. In my humble opinion having something in my lip is like a security blanket for a baby. I know I could make it without it, but it makes not having nicotine so much easier so why not use it.
Keep posting roll. Focus on today. I get freaked out thinking about forever too. I've learned to stay focused on today.

I officially survived Las Vegas. On day ten and feeling great. Double effin digits. Can't believe I am really doing this. All of you have been a huge reason for my success and I really appreciate all of the support.

Quit with you.

i means someone messed up posting and knocked your name off the list...or "bumped" your name...its a little annoying when it happens.

a bump is when you post roll and someone else posts just after you on the roll before yours - your roll post gets left behind. Check back later in the day and make sure your name is on roll and check the post below yours once you post roll and make sure you didn't leave a brother behind.
Congrats on the 12 days - now practice on your phone or get some numbers from fellow quitters so you can text them and ask them to post for you when it's an issue.
(Kind of like how I just "bumped" jayd41's response...)

I've been very busy lately and really haven't had a chance to check in, but things are going great. I feel I am to the point where this process is getting easier and my cravings are slowly fading.
For everyone who is just getting started, stick it out. I really stressed about the difficulty of quitting in the beginning, but by taking quitting a day at a time, I took away the intimidation factor and have been doing excellent in my path to a tobacco free life.
Quitting with all of you.

Great to hear you are still quit and feeling good today. Ride that wave brother!
You are really early in your quit. Be cautious with claims that you are at a point where it is getting easier. You will see ups and downs with your quit... That is life. You need to be prepared for the downs and beat back the nic B just like you are today.
Not trying to bring you down... Just trying to keep you grounded. ODAAT. Quit on.

Really have not been doing a good job with posting lately. I'm in the middle of finals week and I've been slammed with all of the studying. Having said that, this is the time of the year when I would chew the most, and I have done a fine job fighting the temptations. Can't believe I've made it this far. 62 days quit!

^^^^what shitbird said. If this is a stressful time or the time you would normally chew the most, i.e. more triggers, then you need to make sure you post your promise and strengthen your quit. Like you said...the more you put in the more you get out.

Hey Kevbot these guys are right ^^^. I've been in your shoes many years, and I never did quit during finals. Finals broke me if i was having a stoppage, or if finals didn't then the "just one" celebration the nic bitch talked me into after finals did.
I'm in CO- work in Boulder, live near Longmont, if you want to take your quit up a notch and meet up in person, pm me.
-
We are all busy people Kevbot, but posting roll is a 1 minute investment for 24 hours of quit, the best deal around. If you can't get to a computer to post roll, get yourself a few digits from the dudes here and have one of them to post roll for you. I did it last Saturday when I was computerless, and it made my quit strong that day. Good luck on finals, and I quit with you today.

Not really sure why I am returning, but something in my conscience led me back... Although I stopped tracking my days, I am still tobacco free! I missed about a week and for whatever reason, I was afraid to come back. Today I was thinking about how long it has been since I touched a can and figured I would stop by and check... I am official 323 days into my quite and have not looked back. Although I wasn't on the site for long, I can truly say it is the reason I quit. Thank you KTC for saving my life.
Cheers!
