Hello. hoping a support group makes the difference. I've been dipping for over 20yrs. Still remember the day I started...a friend offered it to me and I thought it'd be cool...and I remember thinking it was something that I wouldn't be doing forever...cope is for teens/twentys..not somebody in their 40's...but I did up until today. I quit a couple of times in the past...once for about a year, then some stress and bam I started again and never stopped...until today. I'm doing this for myself...I feel the stigma of being a tobacco user/dipper. this is going to be rough for me as I've hidden this addiction from family believe it or not. mostly i dip at work and then sneak out to the garage/backyard in the evening if I needed a fix. years ago I told them I quit and I've never owned up to starting again and most of my family lives in another state, except my daughter who lives with me....and now my disabled mother Daughter is getting to an age where she wonders what's that lump in my lip and I don't want to have to admit what it is. Hope I'm up for this!

First of all welcome to the site vfr!!!!! You have made a great decision and this is the place to be with support for quitting. The first week will be hell but it will get easier, notice I said easier and not easy. I am also in my 40's and dipped for over 30 years, if I can quit you can quit! It's a simple plan really, post roll daily and promise to your quit group that you will not dip that day. do whatever you have to do to get through that day, seeds, gum, fake snuff, straws, rawhide, whatever, then show up the next day and repeat. Don't worry about quitting for the rest of your life, just quit one day at a time!
Here are some links that may help...
Your quit group is July 09... here ....

Welcome vfrpilot!
Take scooter's advice. Read those links. Read people's stories. Read everything here. It really, truly helps.
Get some phone numbers. Or if you'd rather PM do that. Go to the chat room whenever you need it. These guys can get you through this. I'm on day 9 and I never thought I'd make it this far when I started. But the one-day-at-a-time mantra holds true. Hell go as low as one minute at a time if you have too.
We all struggle from time to time, but with help we get through it. B)

Yesterday the decision was easy. Today(day 2 for me) is proving more than difficult. 27 years using copenhagen...yeah I quit a couple of times, once for about a year...but I went back to the habit.
What gets me is several things: I, myself, find the habit disgusting. Yet I continued, albeit in hiding from my family like an underage teenager....I mean I'm so embarassed by this habit that I'll sneak out to the garage for a dip.
I don't even like the taste anymore...I haven't for years. Yet, I continued.
I hated how much the habit cost - 5 cans a week at 5 bucks a can....I've wasted so much money over all these years...and here's the funny part, when I was a kid I remember my parents smoking and me having to go get their cigarettes(yeah, they let kids pick up their parents smokes in the 70's) and seeing how much they cost....something like a buck a pack and thinking about how much money they burned up...yet here I am with a tobacco habit that lasted 27yrs...how much money is that???? it's scary to caclulate.
I'm writing to take my mind off having a dip in case anyone is wondering about the length of this post.
right now I'm fighting habit. each morning after my cup of coffee I'd respond to emails and have a dip to start the day....that crutch is gone. also I feel the craving for nicotine as well...not sure which one is stronger....but so far I don't feel I'm going to fold. I am taking it one hour at a time though at this moment. looking forward to nighttime/bedtime...if I can fall asleep I'll have a needed break from the cravings I hope!

Congrats, you have come to the right place. 211 days ago i was in your shoes. Wasting my money on Copeshit and hiding it from my family. Wasted over 30 years of my life abusing tobacco. If I can do this so can you. It is not easy but can be done a day at a time. PM if i can help

Stay close to the website, very powerful tool to help you get through craves. Just think, within a couple days all the nicotine will be flushed from your body. You will quit if you really want it.
