Title: Hey Guys - Got a Quick Question as I Start My Quit
Post by: downwithopp on June 26, 2014, 08:17:00 PM
What are the effects of the Nicotine/Tobacco alternatives on this page? http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/smo ... ernatives/ (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/smokeless-alternatives/)

Do they have any effect on your teeth and gums? Without the tobacco I'm assuming they don't cause any types of disease as well.

Thank you for your input as this is my first day without dip.

Those "fake" dips are much safer than the real thing. Many quitters here use those to help with the oral fixation.

Tobacco products lead to cancer, heart disease, and early death. You are much better off with one of the smokeless alternatives listed on the link.

I quit with you today.

It's leaves with some molasses. It can slightly irritate your lip, but nothing like that junk you used to put in it.

Physically, I leaned on it initially in my quit. It's a great way to battle the addiction withdrawals without facing the oral habit. When I dropped it (around day 120), I dropped it. No issues. There are no drugs to keep you hooked.

I can't tell you they won't hurt you, but they don't contain the drug you're addicted to, so go for it if it helps. I used it and then dropped it easily. I've heard some say they had to work to quit the fake, but very small minority. Most drop it by just not remembering to buy more one day.

Okay, thank you for the replies and support everyone.

I haven't had any dip since I first posted in this thread and some of the sores in my mouth are to disappear so I guess that's something to look forward to.

The only thing is that I'm really missing that feeling of having something packed in my lower lip. That's why I'm seriously considering the fake dip. I just don't want to take one step forward only to take two steps backwards. It's been a really down point in my life right now (has nothing to do with the quitting) and I'm hoping the fake dip can get me through the next month or two and then I can put it down altogether.

I have tried hooch, and smokey. To be honest I like the smokey better. I was a big fan of skoal peach once in a blue moon and I think their peach hits the spot, tastes more like an actual peach, rather than a chemical compound with a minor peach smell.

With SM I find it browns your teeth pretty good, but a simple brush and mouthwash it goes away. The stuff literally looks like animal hair, but it doesn't float around your mouth like the hooch did,and it wasn't as dry. Maybe I just got a shitty order of hooch, not sure, because everyone raves about it, but personally if you need that oral fixation for the first month or two,get some SM and some seeds.

Thank you for the advice. Do you know if Walmart sells hooch and smokey? I live in southern NY if that helps?

you arent allowed to take two steps back because you posted roll; by posting roll, you have taken the option of dip off the table for that day.

It's real easy here: post roll today and honor your word and repeat tomorrow.

Honoring your word can be hard sometimes, so that is why you get people's numbers and whenever you think you cant make it any longer without dip, you call somebody and they talk you down.

Yea, I am outside of Philly, the Walmarts here sold the Smokey Mountain, but did have to order the Hooch online.

and never worry about getting off the fake as there is no chemical that will bind you to it. when the time comes and it varies, the need to use it will just fade away

I am guessing quitting the fake could be tough, out of habit. Nothing addicting about chewing on your nails, but some people simply can't stop it, its just a habit they have had for a long time. But I guarantee you, quitting herbal snuff would be a hell of a lot easier than quitting dip, that's for sure

It's not tough. You can drop the habit easily. It has no addictive elements to it. Yes, the first day is slightly annoying, but it's nothing really. I dropped it around day 130, and it was no big thing. I just got tired of using it. I do keep it on hand for tax season and drinking with friends.

Panel is spot on. It is hard to drop addictive items. Things that are not, well, you can drop them like a $5 hooker's panties.

This got me thinking. Why do some people quit and others cave? Quitting is like a war, you have to believe you can win. You have to give it all you got, you cannot be weak or impressionable. You must make the decision in your core and let it not be shaken. If you are an excuse maker quit will avoid you. We all have BAD problems. Yours are not special, in fact your problems begin with your addiction and end with your excuses, all the other shit going on is just life.

It has been 149 days since I jumped on the HOF train and I am much happier now that I'm still quit than I was then. Dave, Claws, Hope, Roadking, String, Hayduke, and all of Feb 14, you rock and you know deep inside of you what it takes to be quit.

New quitters must understand that it takes a purpose to be quit. Somehow KTC fills that purpose.

If any new quitters are reading this, look deep inside of yourself and if you truly want to be quit, the path is here and it starts with your determination.

Some cave because they listen to the lie that says, after you have been quit for awhile, one won't hurt. I can have an occasional dip now and not get hooked again.

Some cave because they get drunk and, in their inebriation, forget they are actually quit.

Some cave because they are dumbasses.
