Title: Dip no more!
Post by: Viking11 on November 26, 2016, 03:32:00 AM
Heyo everyone,

I've been addicted to nicotine for about a year and half at this point. I tried to quit several times, but always fell right back into it after a week or two. The few times I have tried to quit, I have had no one to be accountable to but myself, I have never told anyone that I was quitting, and to be honest, not many people know I'm an addict. This time I want it to be different, and I'm so glad I came across a community like this one, I know this is what I need - people who're in the same boat, struggling to quit this wretched crap, but fortunately we're all in the boat together.

In the past I dipped with my friends at parties, and whenever we were at training camps for basketball, at that time I wasn't addicted. It all started when a dear friend of mine passed away, and I was stuck in a minor depression, that's when I bought my first can of dip. I did this because I remembered how it had made me feel relaxed in the past. Unfortunately this led to my addiction, and I know in myself that it's not right to do it, but as it is with addiction, it's very hard to stop.

On the daily basis, I'm a college student, and I play basketball at division I school. Other than that, I'm sure you all will get to know me eventually, I'll be around for a while :)

I'm quitting because I'm tired of my day revolving around when I can dip next, and the fact I can't be without it. It's just all around bad for my body/life, and I want it out of my life, which is why I'm quitting today. I'm ready to take on this challenge, but I will require help from all of you, that is for sure.

My biggest fear is how the effects of nicotine withdrawal is going to affect my basketball, as I'm currently in season. However I find comfort in the fact that the grass will be greener on the other side.

Hey Viking - thanks for sharing! Just wanted to drop in and say hi - we are in the same quit group. I have also tried to quit several times but am determined to get rid of this vile habit once and for all. I'm currently on day 3 and it sucks, like the dumbest stuff is irritating me. Some guy at the gym sneezed so loud and it just totally pissed me off ha! Chew sucks, do you like sunflower seeds? Those seem to help but I need to some find some that are low salt.

Welcome Viking!

Full disclosure, this is going to be tough. But I will absolutely promise you that it will only get tougher if you put it off.

Quitting shouldn't have a negative affect on your ball skills, although many people do gain some weight. If you channel the stress/ aggression right, you might find that quitting actually motivates you to work harder. Regardless, you have to make quitting the priority.

Get involved with your group, avoid alcohol and make your promise part of your morning routine.
There is no better time to quit than right now.

Reach out if I can help and welcome again!

Justin Robbins - good to have you in the same quit group! I can totally relate to being annoyed by even the smallest of things, it helps to remind oneself what the cause is though, at least for me!
Not a big fan of sunflower seeds, mostly because I don't know how to eat them correctly, haha.

How's your day been today as far as staying away from nicotine?

Pky1520 - thank you for your support! I played a game just today, and it went fine, I was a little bit more aggressive which isn't awful at all!

Nice to see another person quitting young. I waited until I was 49 years old because I always thought I could just quit without really having a plan to do so. I always thought quitting was something I could snap my fingers and make happen whenever I wanted it to happen. I was pretty dumb.

I've learned that quitting is an every day thing. I can never have another taste of nicotine no matter how much I crave it because I am an addict.

I'm glad you're here and I hope you post every day in your quit group. You can make a difference while staying quit yourself. That's the magic of this site. :)

Haha too funny on the seeds. I learned how to eat them playing baseball but you really wouldn't be able to eat them on a court.

Working on the tail end of day 4 and gotta say it's much better than day 3. Not sure how you're feeling but brace your self for day 3 my friend. Maybe go workout as soon as you wake up. Either way stay strong bro!

Like so many have or will say to you, I think it is awesome you've found this site at such a young age. I believe while we are young we think we can put off quitting dip when something is over. I thought after high school I would quit. Then when I joined the military, I thought I had to have it to get by. Then when my kid was born, it kept me going. When I coached ball, it kept me calm. In college, it helped me focus. I found excuses for years to stay dipping. Even if I were sick, I'd dip. It was the first thing I did everyday(to wake up) and the last thing i did (to help me sleep). What a load of shit to believe any of that. It was all just an addiction. My own justification for not quitting. Thank God I found this place.

Trust me, there is no better time than right now to kick that bitch in the ass. Read what everyone puts on here, whether good or bad. It will only make you stronger.

Appreciating all of your responses, stories, and support! - On day 3 now, the worst one so far, but I will stay quit today.

Excited to be a part of such a tight knit community devoted to staying quit one day at a time.

One day at a time...that is how it works. Post up early and put in your promise. We all can keep a promise for 24 hours...that is how this place works. Get to know everyone. I can be your accountability partner via text each day. I do this with 15 others every morning. Weird? Maybe...but it keeps me and them quit. Hit me up if you want via PM. The freedom from this poison is life changing. Day 3 is rough...but it is worth it and if all of these people on this site can do it, you can as well.

Welcome to the site. You are making one of the wisest choices you will probably ever make in your life and at such a young age. Good on ya man. There are some bad ass people here that are ready and waiting to help.

I'll toss out what helped me at first, not sure it will with you but it is worth a mention, I read all the time. every chance had I was here reading words of wisdom and hall of fame speeches. There is a LOT of good stuff here and some sad stuff to that just sets it all in to reality.

People often talk about not thinking about dip anymore. Ahh bullchit! Think about it daily. Don't ever forget where you came from and where you were at. When we forget, we forget! And then we see a person back in here posting another day 1 and the story is usually the same. "Well, everything was cool then I got a shit faced and my buddy offered me a dip"....... Don't forget! Remember how bad this nic bitch sucks ass. Remember how much money she cost you. Remember how much of your life she has cut you short from. Oh yes, damage is done like it or not. Remember that you have the freedom that so many people desire but just can't seem to do. Remember all of us here that are here daily to offer you all the support you need and then some. So please, don't ever forget.

I quit with you every damn day!

Welcome to KTC and congrats on making the decision that will SAVE YOUR LIFE. You can find a cure to your craving or the oral fixation of dipping. Can't say the same for cancer. Be sure to reach out to people in your quit group and some of the veterans. The most important thing for me was having an outlet. That contact, even just through text, was critical to me getting to where I am. I'm only on day 28 and I'm in the quit group one month ahead of you. It's going to suck, but embrace it and know that you're choosing to live your life. Not a life that revolves around a pile of cat shit poking out of your lip. Proud to quit with you!

Welcome to KTC! Glad to have another Viking on board. I'm not far ahead of you, day 31 with TLjent and the few in the February fellowship.

Stay super close to the site. Read, read and read some more. Read about Tom and Jenny Kern. Read about Todd from Minot. Read tons of intros. They will inspire and motivate you to stay quit. You'll find out quickly that there is nearly nothing unique about our addiction to tobacco and the things we experience when we quit.

This is going to suck but if you are doing it for you and posting EDD And focusing on your quit by the second if necessary- you will succeed. Follow the rules of the site closely. This is life and death sir and you are choosing life. Congrats!

Also good luck in the early part of the season.

PM me if you need some digits. It can and will save your life at some point.

Awesome Job on deciding to Quit. I really wish I would have quit at your age, and Im only 32 years old. I really take to athletes and sports minded people, because I love Sports and Coach Football for a Living. I can attest to the struggles you are going to have being a basketball player and all. Take all the advice that you find on this website. I have tried quitting before, before have failed everytime. I found this site, and have followed the rules closely and Im further along in a quit than ive ever been, and I will not ever go back to it. When I was in College, I used to say I'll quit when i graduate, then I said I'll Quit when I get married, then I said I'll quit when I have a child. My first child is one year old, and im just now taking that quit seriously, so I really want you to succeed with this quit. Im gonna PM you my digits, and if you ever need anything just use them. Good Luck to you in your basketball endeavors (unless you play against LSU..haha) For Real, welcome to the site and glad to stay quit with you bro
