Title: Already on day 5
Post by: chipwithoutdip on January 22, 2013, 02:17:00 PM
So i had a stomach virus and went to put a dip in and it just turned my stomach. I thought to myself, this is a golden opportunity to give this crap up. As my topic states, I am working on day 5 today, and boy is it tough. I've been dipping for over 7 years now. and it was every part of my daily life. I would chew in the shower, anytime I drove, all day at work, hunting, fishing, especially while golfing. The urge has never been stronger as it has been today. I am using step 1 of the nicotine patches to help (I've been wearing them since day 1) and continue to go through until i ween off of it. I wish I could quit cold turkey because everyone says its the only way to do it, but I don't physically think I could make it through an entire day. I am here to say hello today and hopefully every day for however long it takes to be off of this terrible, life-killing addiction.

Great job and deciding to quit. But you should go to the welcome center (pink link) above and read how this site works. No nicotine replacements are allowed. We quit cold here. Those patches are only keeping the symptoms at bay. Do the hard work now and pitch the nic. In 3 days you will be a free man. You can do it.

Welcome Chip. This site and the quitters on it will help you keep to your promise which we do each and every day. Accountability. I felt exactly as you do now, 236 days ago when I decided to quit. After 32 years of poisoning myself, I thought there was no chance of me beating this. Good news is one day at a time since then, I have been nicotine free. I rarely think about it anymore. It's a great feeling that I wish every addict (we all are) could feel. Feel free to PM me anytime and go POST ROLL!

Toss the patches and start bitchin like the rest of us. 8 days of being a whiny bitch here. My wife, kids and dog all hate me right now because I'm a jerk. But you know what, I'm a jerk that doesn't CHEW! Good luck, I chewed for 26 years, I really don't know how to do any of the things I like to do without chew, but I'll learn and so will you. Post roll call or the other whiney quiters will yell at ya, Vent here, it helps. KTC and all its quiters are OUR new best friends! 'Finger' UST

Chip, let me tell you what I've found out.
1. I am addicted to nicotine. Physical withdrawal from nicotine is a bitch! It lasts (only?) 3 days. It really goes away after 3 days.

2. I have another related addiction, which is an oral fixation, which has shown itself to be stronger than the physical addiction. There are lots of strategies here to substitute for the oral satisfaction of chewing, during quit, until we want to wean ourselves from that oral occupation as well.

I don't see any reason to stretch out the agony of physical withdrawal with nicotine patches etc. That would only be more painful, and I would alienate my friends and family.

Please, just be quit of nicotine, so you can divide and conquer this real enemy. I smoked and chewed for 53 years, and am now quit for 28 days today. Welcome aboard. We want to quit with you.

I've tried everything except hypnotism, including patches. The only thing that has ever worked, is this site. Trust the people here. Get off the patch and do it the way everyone has.

This a a NO NICOTINE SITE, period, no discussion. So flush your damn patches and go back and post day 1

Your quit decision MUST be 100% your decision. Anything short of that sets you up for failure by allowing your addict brain to blame a given situation as reason for you to go back to the can

Chip 'one and done'? Did you make it to day 6 or does the nic bitch have you by the gonads? C'mon man up and let's get this thing done.
