Title: Day 1 in NYC
Post by: jjhall on May 17, 2015, 07:00:00 PM
So, I've finally quit after 20 years of a can a day habit. I had some success a few years back where I quit for a year (but got addicted to nicotine gum instead), so I'm going cold turkey. I'm somewhat sick of chewing tobacco being an integral part of my life. I remember scraping for change in college like a crack addict to get a can. Even planning to quit, I couldn't really imagine what it'd be like to be chew-free.

Well, here it is. It's a rough 1st day.

I got tired of all that shit too. That's why I quit.

It's not important what your exact reasons are for quitting, what's important is that you have testicular fortitude to do this for yourself. You made the decision, and we can help you stay quit.

Drink water (and tons of it). Watch you caffeine as you'll be jittery enough. Don't need any extra sleepless nights.

Exercise duringcraves. Push ups are phenomenal crave killers. If you dont run, learn. Start by taking a walk.

Have your supplies always on hand. Your enemy (your nicotine addicted body) doesn't have to reach for its weapon. you do. The ktc is a weapon that you can point during your battles, but you ultimately have to pull the trigger.

Post roll. Quit for right now.

All great advice, only thing I would love to add is take it one day at a time. Don't worry about where you will be next year, next month or next week, worry about staying quit today. Manage each crave on its own. Hell, I am craving a pinch right now but me giving you some advice is helping me remember to do the same and take it one less pinch at a time.

Yep it is going to be hard but this site works if used...
rule #1 post role, EDD (every damn day), first thing
rule #2 be accountable, keep your promise and hold others to theirs
rule #3 get active and stay active, you have a craving, get on KTC, have 5 minutes between meetings KTC, etc.
rule #4 quitting is easier than loosing your tongue or jaw

Glad you're here. Listen to these quitters. We've all been exactly where you're at right now. It sucks for a bit, but it's well worth it. Remember: Wake, Roll, Repeat.

He isn't here. No roll, and no activity for 3 days. Quitting isn't for everyone.
