Hi all, I am on Day 2 of my quit. I am currently in Afghanistan, so it's close to the end of the day for me.
I am 23 years old and started with Camel Snus (it seemed harmless enough) when I was 20. A few months later, I was hooked on Grizzly Wintergreen and telling myself and everyone I was close to that I could quit anytime. Now, three years and 1000+ cans later, here I am. I am ready to take control of my own life.
Thank you everyone for being part of this community and for being part of my quit journey.

What's your plan since you're over there? Can you get to the internet regularly?

Yes, I should be able to log on daily.
Right now I am taking a prescription stop-smoking aid which has so far helped to keep the headaches, fog, etc. at bay, and I've been chewing gum, seeds, and vitamin c cough drops during the hardest parts of the day, especially after meals.
My hope is that if I quit here, I can stay quit once I'm home.

Take control of your quit. Know that it is an everyday battle we are fighting because it isn't a habit it's an addiction and addiction is a disease. We can't ever give up in fighting this disease because it is always creeping waiting for a weak moment to come back. Congratulations on joining KTC and more importantly deciding to quit. If you use the site more then just to post roll I promise you you will strengthen your quit. Learn about all the effects of tobacco besides cancer and use the guys that have came before as mentors really learn from them. Congratulations on taking your freedom back and thank you for protecting ours.

Nice man.
Now, go read up at the welcome center and post roll with the rest of the badasses in October 2014. We promise every day not to use nicotine in any form. We watch our brothers' backs. We are not alone in this quit.
Keep it up man. You quit on your own. We can help you stay quit.

Why are you quitting?
Well, in January a close friend of mine cried and pleaded with me to quit, and I promised I would.
But I knew that I wouldn't be able to until I wanted to myself.
My number one reason is my health. I've been more and more paranoid the past several months about my gums, teeth, heartrate, everything. I have already seen improvement in how my gums look and feel since I have cut down the past several weeks, and especially since I have stopped using completely.
I realized that I have been making excuses for myself and lying to myself for too long. Always telling myself, "It's not really a problem, I could quit if I wanted to, it's as easy as not going out and buying any." And then I would say, "As soon as work isn't so stressful, I'll quit." or, "As soon as the holidays are over, I'll quit." My job is always going to be stressful, my personal life will always be stressful, and I just need to suck it up and learn to deal without nicotine.
And then I came on here and read a thread that said something like, "I dip because I like it!" and I realized that I haven't enjoyed tobacco in a long time. I have been throwing money away and putting my health at risk just to buy a drug to keep myself feeling "normal."
So I guess there are many reasons. My friends and family, my health, my freedom, money. And I want to watch my niece grow up.

Wellbutrin. It's helped a lot. I "quit" cold turkey for a month a year ago and felt the fog, headaches, anxiety, etc. really bad. I still have a little of the fog, but the headaches and anxiety aren't so bad with this.

The last time I tried to quit was on a deployment. This is before 9/11, so been awhile since I even thought of giving up the Cope until I Quit July 4th.
That 9 months I stopped cold turkey and really didn't have a hard time, but then I threw it all away as soon as I got home. I figured since I stopped for 9 months, I could enjoy a can since I just got back stateside. That was October of 2000. I dipped a can up to 2 cans a day until I quit this month.
Take advantage of this time outside of the real world to Quit, and than make sure you have a plan for coming back home once it gets closer.
Thank-you for your service and Stay Safe.
