'help'
I'm a 24 year old law student who has been dipping for 10 years. Got up to about a can and a half a day and am tired of it. Got diagnosed with high blood pressure a couple weeks ago so its killing me as well.

Way to go Tilly, just remember, post EVERY day, and make that promise...Then repeat it the next day. We will get through this minute by minute if we have to

Let me add my welcome. You CAN do this. Take back the power in your life from your addiction to nicotine. And yes, you are an addict. You have to think of yourself this way. This is all about fighting your addiction one day at a time. Don't worry about quitting forever, or even quitting for a month. Just today. Post roll, give your word not to use, keep your word. Repeat. Simple, just not easy.
Proud to be quit with you!

Good that you are quitting now. I was going to quit over Christmas break after 1L. Then I was going to quit during summer clerkships because I couldn't study for finals without a dip. Then I was going to quit after the bar. Once I was practicing, I thought I would quit after this brief or that trial was completed. I'll quit when I get married. I'll quit when my daughter is born. Fifteen years...there was always an excuse.
You don't need this addiction dragging you down when you start practicing. You need to quit now and save yourself a lot of heartache in the future.

Welcome Tilly to the family of quit. Every day we wake up and quit. We make it through the day by keeping our word to each other, then we repeat.
Reach out and ask for numbers if you need daytime help when you're away from the computer. We all know what you are going through and can offer help and support in any way possible.

It's about time you use that brain of yours!! Who the fuck wants to hire a lawyer that's got shit in his teeth and shit for breath??
Seriously though, best move of your life. You can do this. How do I know? Because there are thousands of people from all walks of life on this site that are doing it. It's gonna be hard, no getting around it. Man-up and get it done.

Your high blood pressure is likely due to the nicotine. I ran a marathon and still had high blood pressure because I was dipping when I wasn't running...or even sometimes when I was running depending on how far i was going. Nicotine constricts your blood vessels which increases your blood pressure. Once the nicotine is out of your system, your pressure should go down somewhat.
