Title: First day here, 7th day being quit
Post by: Rustyduck84 on March 11, 2018, 09:09:00 PM
Hello everyone. IÂ’m a 33 year old, 12 yr dipper. After years of quitting chew every night and starting back first thing in the morning I finally decided to give it up for good 7 days ago. IÂ’ve never had any luck quitting for more than a couple days in the past so I had my Dr. prescribe Chantix for me this go round. So far so good, the first 3 days kinda sucked but now IÂ’m feeling better with each day. I know from past experience to not get too comfortable though because it can sneak up anytime and ruin a good quit. So I found this site and decided to make myself accountable and meet some new people going through the same.

Hey Rusty, congrats on your quit.

I dont know much about Chantix, if it helps great. if its a nicotine step down, not great. I really believe the only way to go at this is cold turkey. 942 days strong. Would love to see you join a quit group and commit to some accountability every day by posting your promise. Its the ONLY thing that has worked for me.

Want to join this badass tribe? June 2018, slide over there, post roll call (instructions are on the page) and get active, be a leader, exchange numbers with people. this stuff works man.

Nice job posting roll. Keep it up. I'm 781 days quit, and still post roll daily. It's what keeps me quit.

Thanks guys feels great seeing other going through the same thing as well as so many of you that have been quit for quite some time! The Chantix is a non-nicotine pill that helps with the cravings and mood. I have to say it works great. But it does not help with the habit. IÂ’ve been chewing gum, mints, tooth picks, pretty much anything I can find. But IÂ’ll make it.

Hey there, Rusty. I am glad to see you making the effort. You have come to a good place to get help and advice.

I am still fairly new to trying to quit myself, but I have had good luck with the different kinds of fake chew. Obviously the fake stuff isn't going to help with the nicotine addiction and withdrawal, but I have found that the fake stuff does help to stamp down the mental cravings. It also helps alleviate that feeling that you need to have something in your lip. My opinion is there is nothing wrong with using Chantix or the fake stuff if you feel like you need the help. But, I agree that cold turkey is the way to go if you can muscle through without the artificial help. I think I could have gone completely cold turkey, but I am not sorry I used the fake chew at all. But I will warn you that some of the fake chew is pretty close in taste and texture. If you think the fake stuff might be a little too close to the real thing you might want to avoid it completely.

Rusty- Can you confirm what day was the first day of your quit?

Duck.... Your killing it!
Such a good thing to watch young birds quit.
May your wings grow ODAAT.
However... I see you more as an Eagle!
I quit with you today.

Welcome Rusty,

I am currently taking Chantix (same as wellbutrin) doctor prescribed me 2 75 mg 2 x per day. I did not want the timed release as I found it adversely affected my sleep. I have to say the prescription definitely helped. However, I do not like being on any prescription for an extended period of time and have reduced my dose to 1 75 mg pill per day. My quit is 108 days. Follow the rules on this site and it will cement your quit. The most important thing I have taken away from KTC is pounding it in my head that the "just one" thought is the ultimate lie that leads to a cave. If you develop the tools to beat this thought which will inevitably come, you will be successful. Remember "just one" is a complete cave and the thought must be rejected time after time.

Day 14. Been doing pretty well until today. Helped coach my 7 year olds little league team. Been in hibernation all winter and was one of my first days outside. It was tough but I just kept shoving more seeds in my mouth and trying to be a good role model. I got through it and IÂ’ll do it again tomorrow.
