Title: Dentist quit in 2 days
Post by: Rigajig on June 10, 2015, 11:47:00 PM
I would like to introduce myself to this website. I joined KTC a couple years ago but nothing came of it. I never ended up quitting. Now I Am serious about it! I have been researching and PLANNING ways to quit for over a week.
I am a dentist and a huge hypocrite. I have hidden my addiction that I "chew" from most everyone I know obviously due to my profession.
I am looking for a support group to help me with my quit. I have planned my quit date for this Friday June 12.

You're kidding me, right?
You... better than anyone... know that the next dip you stuff in your face could totally be the one that turns your life into a cancerous hell.

You wimped out in '12... what's different now? All the shit that "kept" you from quitting... can you handle that any better now? Dude, tomorrow always breeds another tomorrow. You just put yourself through 3 more years of slavery because of that mentality. Man up. Do it now. Quit... Right... Now. That... is true badass. You got it in you? Freedom waits m'man... you really want it?

Annie's daddy-I'm looking forward to it!! I would love to have a companion for this quit date!!

Applejack-I'm not kidding!! I know ALL of the consequences of dipping and I still do it because of the stresses of life. In fact, I educate patients all the time about issues with smoking and smokeless tobacco.
You're right. I did give up 3 years ago and I am a slave to the stupid can. This time it's different. I have a 13 yr old daughter and a very supportive wife that are concerned about me. I WILL BE QUITTING ON FRIDAY!

Blah, blah, blah...

If youre not strong enough to do it right now... you won't be on Friday.
If the stresses of life are "making you chew" and keeping you from quitting now, sorry... they won't be resolved by Friday.
Friday is NOT special.

You're wallowing in addiction and letting it rule you.
A weed.
A chemical... nope... a poison.

You're owned.
But... you can fix that right now. Tonight.
Tell me... why are you waiting? Why?
Do it now and by Friday... you're about halfway done with purging your body of nicotine.
That's a better way to spend Friday don't ya think?

Man up, bro.

Seriously!! Do you really know what your saying? I have had an addiction to chew for 31 years! I have read all the articles and post on this website over the last week and they say to have a "plan". I agree with that!! My plan is to quit on Friday. I have set plans within my circle of life to minimize failure issues. I understand and respect what you are trying to do but please respect my plan. I WILL BE ON HERE FRIDAY BITCHING AND MOANING. I'm looking for support for "my plan" which is Friday. Please respect that

AppleJack knows exactly what he is saying!! You are right that you should have a plan. AppleJack and myself are also right in saying that there is no better time to quit than right THIS minute. I'm a 36 year/2 cans per day, sometimes 3, user. I tried the planning, date setting deal. It never stuck. There will always be a reason to put it off another day. So yourself a favor and quit right now. It won't be any easier tomorrow.

But, if you insist and you really can't try to quit till tomorrow, I will be here to support you. A big deal here is keeping your word. You give us your word that you are quitting tomorrow and we will be here to support you. Of course we will give you all manner of shit for not sacking up and quitting today. No one gets a free pass here at KTC.

Good luck tomorrow. Maybe that last chew today will not be the one that gets you.

We don't respect "plans"... we respect quit. Plans are subject to change as you proved 3 years ago in failing to follow through with, well, anything. Like Mike said... we're gonna be hard on addict speak bullshit. We def won't be as hard on you, and your family, as the cancer you're flirting with. Why are you still willing to risk the roulette game? If you'd sack up and do this now... You'll have endless support (me included!) and Friday is another day of actual rock solid quit instead of a "plan".

I'm with AJ here-- and with you when you just dump it today. Just do it. The "plan" is not a date, it's for how you will cope. I was in it as deep as you, and this place helped me when nothing else ever did. So far so good, by following the advice of others here like AJ.

I planned to quit almost every day for 25 years. Yep, I threw out literally thousands of partially full cans with the plan to quit tomorrow. And the next day. And the next, and the next....

Fuck planning. One day, after my doctor gave me a fistful of pills to control my cholesterol, blood pressure, and a myriad of other ailments... I quit. For a while, it sucked. I'm not gonna dwell on the suck, because it is well documented here. What isn't well documented is the fact that every day I am now winning at something I lost at every day. Or how absolutely amazing it is to be honest and free. I suspect that you are a big time ninja dipper. Not a good way to live. Looking over your shoulder when you buy... hiding in the shower to get your fix... hiding cans all over kingdom come and being terrified someone will find them.

Now, this is where it gets dicey... when these "plans" are pointed out here and a bad ass like AJ points out that plans are BS, 50% of the time the planner gets pissed and doesn't come back. 45% of the time they man (or woman) up and quit RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. 5% of the time they follow through with their plan. You are at even odds that you've got a shot at this. Don't get your feathers ruffled. Listen to AJ. Start your day of freedom right now. One more day of shoving poison in your head isn't going to matter if freedom is what you seek. You can do this. Trust me... if AJ or I can do it, you can.

I respect all of the feedback. Thank you!I have tried to quit several times also and have failed.

My plan to quit starts tomorrow because I have put certain things in place (within my circle of life)which will assist me through the initial 3 days of hell. I have tried the "quit now", "throw 1/2 can away" several times throughout my 31 years of chewing and have been unsuccessful.

I really do respect the comments I have received from you guys but this is what I need to do. I promise I will be on here for the next 3 days looking for assistance. I made the initial post on the introduction page to do just that...introduce myself. I want to use KTC to help me get through this.

Unless you quit right now... or until you quit tomorrow (we'll see)... do us the courtesy of not posting again while you're using. It's a slap in the face and a kick in the nuts to all the real quitters fighting right now.

Let's see whatcha got...

Welcome! The September Samurai Quit Group will be your home once you decide to quit. It is based on the month you will achieve 100 days clean. Visit the Samurai Quit Group page to learn how to post roll call every day. topic/11155274/#new/ (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/11155274/#new/)

Your official first day will be the first day you post roll call, which is a commitment to yourself and each of your quit brothers/sisters that you are clean for that day. So get over to the Samurai Quit Group and post roll on Friday morning. I don't mind so much that you have a plan for Friday. I'm a 38 year dipper who is a lawyer and CEO, so I stopped on a Friday too so that I could use the weekend for my first 2 fog days. What I do mind is if you are waiting til Friday because you don't have the gumption to make your quit stick... and that's why these other guys are giving you a push to quit now. But no matter, any permanent quit is a good quit, whether it starts today or tomorrow.

Your job is to honor your quit one day at a time. Just get thru tomorrow my friend...Do not cave in to the cravings. And then Saturday morning, post roll again and repeat that every damn day.

As you know, the first few days suck, but by Day 10+, things start to get a lot easier. Drink lots of water and/or cranberry juice. Exercise and sweat out the toxins. Stay away from alcohol for the next couple weeks so it doesn't weaken your resolve. It'll take 3 days for the nicotine to physically get out of your system, and then the real mental battle starts fighting the cravings your brain's nicotine receptors so badly want. You can do this. Many of us old dogs are 30+ year dippers and are now proud to be free.

Proud to quit with you. PM me anytime that you need help. Also, people here share their cell numbers, especially during the first few weeks because I promise you that you are going to want to text or call someone when you start having a craving. Really, really helps to have someone in your corner at that moment.

Thank you for the post! I really appreciate the information provided. To be honest,I'm scared and nervous. I've been planning this, with the support of my wife and father, for 5 days now. This quit is more than anything I have ever tried before. I'm using that as motivation to REALLY QUIT. I will post in roll call and I am looking forward to KTC for support.

Thanks again!

That's great. Your quit will be stronger when you have people that you don't want to disappoint, including yourself. You'll do well. Sounds like you are prepared. Just wrap your head around 2 facts: (1) you are an addict...the sooner you acknowledge that, the faster you can change your destiny, and (2) you are NEVER, EVER going to have nicotine in your system again. If you own those two concepts, you will succeed.

Here's a great KTC post. Do all the things in this post and you will maximize your use of this site and your quit.

Aight... it's Friday morning and I see no post up.

Big surprise. However... you have a few hours yet to prove me wrong and... I sincerely hope you do.

Put your money where your mouth is instead of shoving more crap in it. Are you gonna choose freedom or your addiction?

Rig,

Congrats brother, I see you posted Day 1 of the rest of your life. Just remember your post is your promise to yourself, your family, and your brothers and sisters here at KTC, your promise to be nic free today, don't worry about tomorrow, just today. Like you, I planned my quit and picked my quit date a month ahead of time and told everyone I knew I was quitting and when it was going to happen because I knew I would let myself down, but being accountable to others is the extra motivation I needed. That what this site is about, support and accountability, the brothers and sister on here are awesome, and I couldn't have done it without them. Read as much as you can and get involved.

You may have had your feathers ruffled the last couple of days, but use it for motivation. Prove to yourself and everyone else that you GOT this. Embrace the Suck!

Quit with your brother, pm if you need anything.

What he said. Pab and I are both 38 year dippers who are beating this thing. For me, it's 16 days clean after over 13,500 days dirty. Let that little piece of medical abuse sink into your brain. You have been abusing your body that long, and now you are going to start paying the piper to get your health and freedom back. It's god damn fucking heroic what you are doing....and it's not only the right thing to do, it's the only thing to do if you want to live....so be that hero --for you and your family-- and DO IT! Proud to quit with you today!

25 years... 2 cans a day. I was as big a junkie as you could find. I took dips so big it made me sick sometimes. But... as soon as I felt a little better... popped another'n right back in to "celebrate".

Are.you kidding me!?! I'm so thankful I'm not that fool anymore!

787 days of freedom today. Glad you proved me wrong... do me a favor?... Keep doing it!

Rigajig-one day down! Stay quit my friend. Fog gets better, worse, better...and repeat. Just post roll everyday and when you get a crave jump on KTC, PM someone read some posts and keep your promise to make it through one more day. See you one roll tomorrow!

Well my irritability has definitely kicked in. I have been spending the day with my father in order to spare my wife and kids. Unfortunately he was the recipient of some hurtful comments after talking my ear off earlier this afternoon. Now I feel bad 'bang head'

Withdrawals suck. Your dad understands. We do too. Come here and hop in chat. There are always a bunch of dudes in there to vent on. You'll be laughing in no time.

You've got this man. It will get better.

My dad is a dentist! He sold his private practice a few years ago and now teaches dental students at Midwestern University. He never chewed or smoked though haha.

Keep up the quit! Your getting past the worst part!

RigaJig,
I get the anger thing. I think I had a monopoly on that part of the withdraw. Thats the truth. When that part hit I actually left my house and spent the night at the Holiday Inn. Although to my surprise, when I came back home my wife came up to me and hugged me and said she understood. She told me she cared about me so much that she wants me to do what I have to do to make this quit work.

Trust me when I say everone in your family know it is the withdraw talking. They will let it flow off of them because they all want this QUIT for you. So hang in there and keep it going. Drink water and cranberry juice. The CDC and Cancer Society says cranberry juice is best for purging the Nicotine out because of the PH level of the juice. I did research also before and after I quit. My fog lifted in a few days. I got better as days went on but now at day 15 I barely miss the can, I do have cravings but I stay vigilant and I know my triggers and take myself out of those situations.

I hope this helps. PM me and I will give you my cell number. Use it when you feel weak.

Hang in there. Anger has been a big problem for me to. Just keep to yourself and keep your mouth closed as much as possible. I think I'm looking for a reason to blow my top. Don't be too quick to speak. Let the stupid shit people says have time to sink in before immediately snapping back with a smart ass comment. Use this forum as much as possible. I finally feel like I'm becoming human again.

Thanks for this intro Rig. It just goes to show that no matter how much knowledge you possess to know why it isn't good for you (you being a dentist), nicotine's talons are long, brutal, and tough to free yourself from. This made my quit stronger today, thank you again.

Congrats!

Since we saved a dentist here I was wondering if there are any threads about gum/teeth heath that I should be looking at? My mouth is still healing from my quit but any input would be welcome. B)B

Never have I ever been less surprised by a cave. Wanna know why?

Way back when I put a shitload of effort into contacting and talking with this ninja dentist. At one point I told him that, if he would like, I would give him phone numbers of 2 of my best contacts... That just so happen to live in his hometown. I didn't threaten to out him. I didn't threaten to take out an ad in the local paper saying he chewed and cleaned teeth. I offered help. He sent me an immediate message saying that I was to immediately delete his phone number and under no circumstances share his number (which I obviously didn't do). So I deleted his information, and wondered how long it would take for this special little butterfly to cave. Now I know.

This program works if you let it work. this asshole never wanted it to work the Ktc way. He wanted to be locked in a little box and be a special butterfly.

In 1,358 days and hundreds of contacts, this asshat is the only one to tell me to fuck off. So imagine my non-shock at his failure....

Good luck Rigagig

I do hope you do what you said and get back and post here.
This is classic , fade away, lose connection, fail.
Everyone should take note. Especially when you get a few 4 or 500 under your belt. It's never done.
You are a great guy. You lost your way. I'm pissed, because you have my digits and others in your group who'd move heaven and earth to help you, but want you to get back and take back your life.

The last post from Rigajig was 9/7. I didn't see an official cave post. I'm not sure why someone would cave after 400+ days of posting roll. I hope we get good answers!

If so, it'll work as good as the last one. Quitters take note: do it the KTC way and it works. Make your own twists and it doesn't. That's the addiction running your brain again. Let go, give in to he process and the collective wisdom of several thousand who are beating this awful addiction daily. If you think you are smarter than than wisdom, you'll fail. Again.

What's all your patients gonna say when everyone starts saying , he has mouth or throat cancer from dipping? Wow one can really tell , you would think I'm definitely an addict, he'll I'm a dentist, the very one that tells this person they shouldn't use tobacco. That my friend is a hypocrite! Get your ass back in here, drink the koolaid and get back to quitting!

Draw a line in the sand, post a day 1, answer the three questions, it will help you and all of us,
Get involved again. Even more so.
Just do it.
