Title: Day 1: December 12, 2014
Post by: LarryCsonka on December 11, 2014, 11:55:00 PM
Hi everyone, my name is Ryan and I live in Texas. I am 21 years old, I'm a recovering dip addict, and I'm killing the can from now on. I tried quitting on my own, but maybe I need a support group.

Why is today not my first day (December the 11th)? Because I have already dipped. Tomorrow I'm done. Actually from this post on, I'm done. I just threw out all my cans (and the one that is 3/4 full). I had to stop myself from just hiding the full can... we all know how that goes... "I'm quitting but let me just hide this full can in this basket - just incase." Nope. Not this time.

I really liked the 100 reasons to quit dipping and I figured I'd post my own.

1. No more cleaning out my car before I go home to make sure my Dad doesn't find them.
2. No more stopping at the gas station before a trip because I canÂ’t sit in the car for 2 hours without it.
3. No more wiping my teeth down to make sure I don't have stragglers before I go inside to see my family.
4. No more having to answer the question “do you dip” when a girl gets in my car for the first time.
5. No more having a girl say "it's okay, it doesn't bother me." That's fine it bothers me.
6. No more having girls poke my lower lip and say “gross, I can’t believe you do that.”
7. No more having to brush my teeth before I kiss a girl.
8. No more leaving my spitter in a girl's room.
9. No more opening my car door at the light to spit because I didn't have a spitter, but I couldn't resist.
10. No more taking the long way home because I just put a dip in.
11. No more having a buy a can before going to the library to study because it is stressful.
12. No more having to look over my shoulder for the security guard because it is against the rules to dip in the library.
13. No more watching good looking girls walk by only to see me with a fat lip spitting into a bottle.
14. No more having half a dozen empty cans laying around on my desk.
15. No more having 3-4 half filled spitters on my desk.
16. No more quitting for a week and then stopping at the gas station for ONE can before I quit again.
17. No more going to the bathroom to “brush” my teeth with water and my finger.
18. No more brushing my teeth 4-6 times a day right after a dip.
19. No more wondering “man, I hope it doesn’t happen (cancer, teeth falling out, etc.) to me”
20. No more wondering “I wonder what the dentist is going to say"
21. No more checking the mirror and hoping my gums havenÂ’t receded more.
22. No more shaking empty cans hoping there is something left.
23. No more "well I'll buy pouches this time...they're probably better..."
24. No more spending hundreds of dollars a year on something that negatively affects me.
25. No more having the people I work look at me as a lesser human because I can't control my habit. I can and soon it will no longer be a habit.
26. No more dipping in the shower or bathroom at my friend's house because I don't want them to see.

Just reading through those, all I can ask myself is "why?" Why are you doing it? What's the benefit. I might have to read those 26 items a hundred times over the next hundred days but whatever it takes.

I have tried quitting before. Lasted 8 days. Weak. I'm joining the March 2015 group and I post roll call tomorrow.

My longest streak of quitting was 8 days. My next longest streak will be 100, which will turn into a lifetime. I'm done.

Kill the can finish line, IÂ’m running through it, Larry Csonka.

Don't worry about a streak. Worry about right now man.

You can do this. We can help. Got any questions?

You're right. I tell my kids all the time, "take it game by game." Time to take my own advice and just go day by day.

I think I understand the site. I need to post in the March 2015 Roll Call for tomorrow. I really like the support of the forum. I will do my best to do my part.

Sounds like you got what it takes to quit with us. Be sure to read up on everything you can. Build your own network of friends here. The next few days may suck a bit but it gets better, way better.

Normally I give all young guys a warning to take this seriously because most of you fail, because you don't realize what an addict you are. But, you're going by LarryCzonka, which not only is a kick ass name, but also has to make you a bit of an old soul. Regardless, never forget you are an addict. Lots of us tried to quit when we were your age, we caved thinking we'd quit again the next day, except the next day turned into decades. Don't make our mistakes. Good luck.

I didn't start dipping until I was 27-28 years old, so quit today and be smarter then me.

C'mon Larry! You can't do this alone, obviously. You need to grab a hold and get this shit done....now!

We know the lies, the deceit, all of it. You're an addict Larry, and so are we. But we know how to kick this bitch to the curb, you just need to drink the Kool Aid.

It appears that numbers 1-26 above (as well as the original 100) still appeal to Mr. Csonka.

Great call going back to being a slave to a weed!!

When you decide to return, I think a name change is in order. Perhaps Ryan Leaf or Tony Mandrich would be more appropriate.

Just some friendly advice LC - you came in here with a ton of energy and a passion to quit, posting a good post right off the bat. And you made it.........2 days?

Instead of posting the epic post, re-focus that energy into staying quit. Quitting is hard - it brought me to my knees several times in the first week - but it can be done.

I have seen many a failed quitter with the passion for quitting evident in their writing, but simply not understanding that writing about being quit and actually quitting are 2 different things.

I truly hope that come back here and fight for your life again. It seems like yesterday I was 35, and today I am 45 - it goes by that quick, and if you don't quit now you will be 35 and using.
