Hi Folks,

Name is Sean, age 44 (give or take 1 year, can't remember)

I'm on day 2. This is my first quit. Decided to do it the day before yesterday. Found this site last night while researching what to expect after quitting.

Well, yesterday was pretty intense. The mind was playing games... Trying to make deals and I felt quite a physical reaction... my mouth ached and I had a strange metallic taste... My brain told me it would all feel much better if I had a pinch... I have the feeling I'm going to be "hearing" a lot of that.

Started dipping in exactly the way one of the articles describe as the typical... Was out camping with a buddy, sitting around the fire.. He asked it I wanted to try a pinch. I did. After a few minutes I became very dizzy and lightheaded. It got to the point where I really couldn't move for about a half hour... I knew if I tried to get up I would vomit.

Well that was it that night. But the next day..... Well, for some reason I actually wanted to become very dizzy and lightheaded again! And it just continued from there...About 19 years ago.. Man how time flies.

Was doing Cope, about 5 cans per 7 days..

In the last few months, I limited myself to a schedule in an attempt to wean down to April 1st. (Hell, was this a good day to start a stop on ? haha). Schedule for the last few months was dip only at noon, 3p, 5p, 8p and 10p. That was to replace the pretty much constant dip in my month.. So now limited to 5 a day.. I did ok, but would slip off the schedule and add one extra in the evening (or 2).

Finally on April 1 I said that's it. Had my last dips on April 1. April 2 first day without any.

I was expecting today to be much worse than yesterday, but so far (it's 2pm) it's not been as bad as yesterday (day1). I passed trigger-time of 12pm (after lunch) without much thought..

Wife wasn't bugging me, but I got tired of the effects.. occasional sore throat or tickle in the back of it and sometimes when you dip too much the teeth ache. Plus I want to save the $1300 per year I was spending.. 5pack =$25.00 x 52 weeks = $1300. If I put the $100 bucks each month away instead of spending it on dip, I can add that to our annual vacation money and make the vacation that much better! At least something to show for the money!!!

Well, I've gone on long enough.. Thanks for the site and being here.

Sean

Welcome brother!! You are definitely in the right place. I quit 155 days ago and KTC is the reason why. Let me know if you have any questions. Make sure you read everything here.

Congrats on a great choice, Sean. Sounds like you're doing great...ballparking your age within a few years is excellent for anyone on Day 2. Great job!

Like Grizzly said, read EVERYTHING you can on this site. Start with the Welcome Center link above. Learn how and why we post roll. Then do it.

While you're finding your Quit Group and posting, click around in a few different months and years. Then remember, EVERYBODY you see were once right where you are now. If you need anything, just ask. ALL of those folks understand where you are and what you're going through.

Remember, attitude is everything. The attitude you have when you start anything will largely determine your result. Stay positive. Turn the tables on the Nic Bitch. Quitting is a privilege reserved to those who have the guts to do it...that's you!!! Everyday of freedom is cause for celebration. You GET to feel this crappy because YOU CHOSE to quit. COngrats, brother!!!

Great decision Thewolfe! You are in the hardest part of your quit and are still having physical withdrawal symptoms. But, you can do this! All of us have gone thru this. I've probably posted this 50 time now, but I chewed for 33 years and I'm now 46 days quit. This site will give you the support you need, so use and stay quit. Don't forget to post roll everyday. It is important. PM me if I can help.

Thank you to all of the replies  the encouragement.

Day two physical symptoms kicking in (419PM now). Better than yesterday (12:30pm). You know, the aching mouth, jaw, teeth.. the "feed me nic" ache.. Plus the weird feeling in your head..

Anyway, I think this is progress... The "though stuff" came 4 hours later on day 2 than it did on day 1.

I seem to want to cram stuff in my mouth.. Trying to do water as much as I can. I can just see myself substituting FOOD for the chew... Did you guys /gals have problems with eating too much post-quit ?

Whoever founded this site and the people on it deserve a big thanks! Didn't really realize everyone has done, will do, did do, has experience all the same stuff as I did, both post and pre quit.

It's nice to know what to expect. Just knowing there are quit-vets around means a lot.

Thanks fellas!
Sean

Sean I'm on day 30 and still having hourly struggles with the nic bitch after a 37 year habit. I've substituted gum and food for the cravings and I've gained about 7 pounds this month. I need to address the weight gain but I'm going to accept it until I hit my 100 day hall of fame. After that, I'll tend to the weight gain. Good luck Sean and know that we all have been where you are and I promise it does get easier (slowly but surely, just more slowly than surely!).

Sean don't worry about eating for now it won't kill you and soon you will be able to work on killing those extra #'s. After making headway in our addiction many of us find other weaknesses that we want to address. For now nicotine must be #uno, it's also advisable to avoid alcohol for a couple months especially if it is a trigger.

We'll, uhh I did have a few glasses of wine, but did not slip up. Was already drinking when I read that post. I will see what I can do to substitute water for wine over the next few weeks.

My last can is still sitting on my desk, right next to my spit cup. (Coffee cup, meticulously clean and stain free, scrubbed with steel wool to hide the grossness of dip). I have seen it the last two nights while playing video games. Did not touch it or even try to take a wiff of it!!! I totally forgot about it while playing games, which is strange cause that was my prime dip time.

I am trying to plan how to dispose of that cup. Been using it for at least 8 years.. Perhaps out to the desert for some target practice?

Made it thru the second night even with a few glasses of wine... Made it thru today altogether. Time for bed.

I see the point about not worrying about eating, as it is by far the lesser of two evils.

Thanks for the encouragement and words of wisdom. C u on day 3!!!

You need to flush that can ASAP. That is a temptation that needs to be destroyed before it comes back to bite you in the ass. At this point in your quit, your mind will probably convince you "not to waste it" or some other BS addict talk. Just get rid of it.

As for the oral fixation, a lot of guys around here use seeds or chew gum like mad, or else use jawbreakers, Smokey Mountain, Jake's Mint Chew, and some other items I can't remember right now. Don't be afraid to give any one of these a try, whatever it takes to stay quit.

Yeah. Not sure why you still have a can if you quit. C'mon man get with it. Also there is no "slipping up". That's bullshit man. Get with it. We don't pussy foot around with our quitting here. You can take that weakness elsewhere. We fucking quit and we fucking mean it. Don't be a pussy ass caver. Flush that dog shit immediately and get on board with the program.

Dude, your talking like this is some kind of game. Are you serious about this quit or not? Like grizz said, you need to flush everything. And just toss that stupid ass cup in the trash and quit playing around. Its not cool that you dipped or have a special spitter. Its fucking gross. Trash it and take this seriously

Made it through the first weekend. That was my worry, more idle time on Sat and Sun, and hanging out with the fellas, all those places where it is habitual to dip.

Thinking about dipping less and less each day.. Instead of every 2 minutes like the first few days (well day one and two was pretty much CONSTANT), I go large parts of an hour without those thoughts.

Keeping busy really helped.. Doing something keeps the mind off of the lip.

day 5 now.

Haven't, didn't can't won't cave.

thanks Brothers..

Beware, "idle time" is the lair of the nic bitch. Stay busy and active. Now that you're quit, you have the freedom to enjoy so many healthy activities. Go to the gym and pump some iron, go for a run, do chores, change the oil in your truck, wash the dog, mow the lawn, etc. These are all things that probably "required a dip" in your past. Now you can enjoy them without worrying about poisoning yourself with the toxic weed known as dip. Get out there, get busy, and enjoy the hell out of life!

Your're so right.. Everything USED to require a dip, to do, or at least as a reward after.. Had myself trained like a god dammed seal at Sea World.

A long drive required a dip.
Doing some paperwork needed a chew.
Workin on the truck or wife's car was a constant dip.
Could not eat without a follow up dip.
I even recall out hiking, reaching the top of a long uphill, hell time for a chew..

We'll I don't need any more so called rewards for completing tasks as I have quit.

ZC
Your're so right.. Everything USED to require a dip, to do, or at least as a reward after.. Had myself trained like a god dammed seal at Sea World.

A long drive required a dip.
Doing some paperwork needed a chew.
Workin on the truck or wife's car was a constant dip.
Could not eat without a follow up dip.
I even recall out hiking, reaching the top of a long uphill, hell time for a chew..

We'll I don't need any more so called rewards for completing tasks as I have quit.
Nice work.
Nice Job. Being quit is the reward.
You are winning. One day at a time!

I post roll every day without fail (I am quit 9 days, 99999.9999+E9999 more to go)

but I notice my line on the roll has disappeared from the posts today. I've seen it happen before. If I dig down in to older posts I can see where I entered into the roll.. but later in the day it's gone.

Am I doing something wrong, (besides dipping for 19 years) ?

Also:

Couple of local fellas reached out to me and swapped txt and a phone call. Very supportive, many thanks for being there and willing to help a stranger! (knockout  cmark)

you have experienced what we call "getting bumped"....its a lovely thing to have happen to you (just kidding it fucking sucks). Basically the guy that posted right above you didn't go back and check if he bumped anyone therefore your post gets lost in the weeds....always go back an hour or so later to make sure you didn't get bumped...if you did just post again...most vets will fix it for you if they did it but you still need to monitor the situation

Watch out for bumps. Make sure you don't bump anyone and make sure your name is on that roll. Don't be afraid to fix the bumps that you see. It'll strengthen your quit.

Trying to figure out the mechanism here, as to avoid doing it or having it done to me.

Do I have this correct:

I QUOTE the roll. During the time I copy and paste someone else who already QUOTE'ed it BEFORE ME but not yet submitted, submits it after I do my submit, therefore leaving me off?

Day 14 was interesting.. Got the jaw ache...same as day one to four, but not as intense. You probably remember that ache, "a dip will cure this ache" ache...

The number of times the craves came up has increased compared to the last ten days..

Not gonna cave or anything, after all I quit today. Just wanted to record the differences lately.

Thanks for being quit with me, and I am quit with you all today...

Right on wolfe.... Your screen name reminds me of Pulp Fiction when Jules was talking to Marsellus Wallace and was surprised to hear that "thewolfe" was coming to save the day.... Great movie, great handle man... Grats on hitting 2 weeks... You probably can't even believe that you've made it this far but I feel the same way after hitting 24 today...

Keep up the quit, that is all... Post roll, text some cool bs to anyone who will listen, jump on chat, whatever.... JUST STAY QUIT!!!

Going out to the desert for the last trip of the year (getting too hot). Camp/hike and going to learn to rappel in some canyons. If I don't come back, you know how THAT worked out. At least I'll be quit when I go!

It will be the first time out hiking without a dip in my mouth in 20 years. Asked someone to post roll for me SAT as there is no connectivity where I will be.

I'm QUIT with you ALL.

Ohh my.. Woke up this morning, out in the desert, and thought I'd best hurry home and post my day 1 again.. Then I realized it was a dream...

I had my first cave dream. Funny thing, in it I smoked a cig. I never smoked cigs... Funny..

Anyway in the dream after caving, (I don't remember the circumstances of what led up to me caving) I was soooooooo disappointed with myself and dreamt about the hell I would catch when I had to post day one again...

So I lay there with the sun coming up and was so relieved once I figured out it didn't happen..

Hey Quitters,

I reached Day 30. I know there is no way I could have done 30 days, let alone 3 without the KTC web page, forums, philosophy and especially the inspiration and wisdom of my fellow quitters.

Thank you for helping me be quit today!

Quitting with you all.

I was tossing my vehicle last night, looking for something...found a full can, based on weight, already open. I thought about opening it and taking just a whiff, but also had the thought that I was way too new at being quit to risk opening it for only a whiff. Perhaps no amount of time would prepare an addict to ever smell the poison again...

Without further hesitation I held it out the window and, with out looking at it, took the lid off and poured it on the road.

Without KTC I probably would have found it and thought, hmmmmm one couldn't hurt. And you know the rest of that story......

If it wasn't for my quit brothers, from you recent replies, all the way back to Chewie, I am sure that fucking tin would have ended up in my mouth.

I am not the most verbose person... I Am basically the guy in the back of the room watching everything, saying little. I am absorbing everything everyone says. I am 200% on board with the koolaid here. I may not be ingrained with every intro thread, except BigNastys, but I am reading it all.

This site works wonders. KTC is the lynch-pin, the holy grail, the Rosetta Stone to Quit. It's not something you can buy in a prescription, it's not something your doctor can advise you to do, you can't read how to do it. You have to do it to understand it. The way to quit is so fucking simple, one day at a time, brotherhood and accountability. Knowing that so many thousands went thru this before me makes it possible for me push thru it, ODAAT.

Every night I spend about two hours reading on the forums.. your stories, your trials, your temptations, your caves, your craves, it all gives my the resolve to stand fast against the nic bitch.

Quitters quit, many disappear after HOF, but some stay to help guide the n00bs through the quit. It is you who have already been quit for some time, and stay around and hold us accountable, who relate to us, who push us away from the bitch.. That I give my thanks and appreciation too.

Quit on brothers!!!

How is it these quitters find these cans laying around and hiding. I kept my poison close. There was no hiding places for me. You know, Actually I never lose anything, keys wallet sunglasses, ect.. And I wasn't a ninja dipper. I always lost cans however.

I think it was a difference approach to feeding the addiction. When I ran out in the middle of the night or before I was showered and ready to go out, all I had to do was go dig around the car, my den or my bag to get some more. By losing it in familiar places it was always at hand for emergencies.

perhaps the term should not be 'losing' but 'intentionally accidentally losing' tins.

Wow, last two days the craves have been strong... Getting the ache in the jaw like on the first few quit days. Strange, out of the blue with the strong craves.
Anyways, last night I got sick of the craves. I went and got some coffee grounds and packed em in my lip. HA! Seemed to do the trick, took the edge off..

Maybe I will get some fake. I didn't originally want to because it only reinforces the act of dipping, but if these random, out-of-the-blue craves are in my future, perhaps if will.

Quit on.

Quit on.
Whatever it takes to stay quit Wolfe. I bought 12 cans of fake in the beginning. Used one can once during a bad time at day 79. If I hadn't been prepared I would not be on day 176. The more tools you have the better. You are doing great!

I want to second what these guys are saying Wolf. Quitting is hard. You will eventually be done with fake even if you pack it lots for now. Right now you are rewiring your brain after years of addiction programming. It will rewire as long as you stay off of the poison now. I'm quit with you either with or without the fake, man!

Keep battling today. Don't worry about using fake. It is totally safe and a great alternative.

Think of it this way. If you were an alcoholic and you decided to quit drinking. What you would have to do would be.... stop drinking alcohol. You can still continue to drink coffee, water, soda or whatever you want. The act of drinking non alcoholic beverages is totally safe and fine. It is the same concept here.... You quit nicotine. You can safely put into your piehole anything that does not contain nicotine. The fake stuff is just another tool. Nothing to be afraid of.

I'm quit with you all day.
