Hey All,
My name is James Cournoyer and I have come to the realization that Im spending trips around the world for a Habit that has no benefit. Taxes have been raised here and I don't blink an eye at $12.00 cans of Skoal.
For me it started my sophmore year of High School with my friend Ben and Dave. We were playing pool and he offered me some dip. I said sure what do you do. The only instruction given was DO NOT SWALLOW! "OK" I said and sure enough I put in a pinch and 5 minutes later I was numb. I got scared as Hell. I thought they laced it with Acid so I freaked out and spit it out. I asked my buddies if it was laced with anything and they laughed. They said that was the norm and sure enough I put another Lipper in and was hooked. We would meet up after school throw a dip in and play video games. We would meet up at the pizza place and throw a dip in. It was great. The buzz I got from skoal Mint. Then the buzz went away and it was just the thing to do. A secret dipping group of about 5 of us. Always trying to initiate new people. Most of the time them ending up green and throwing up. Then it became a competition. " I can dip and drink a soda" Filling up 3 gallon jugs of dip spit with a smell so rancid that when you would go to spit in it you would hover 4ft over it to avoid the putrid smell. The 32oz gatorade bottle that would tip over in your car and create a mess cause you took a corner too hard. This was all fun in High School. Then we grew up.
15 years has gone by and Im a father of an 8 year old and I have a baby girl on the way in April. Ive told my wife around 12,459 times Im gonna quit and made no real attempt. But now I want to be done with this deviled Long Cut. I don't plan on telling her Im quitting till Im in the clear. I figure if she can bear my child and suffer for 9 months of her body morphing and changing it is selfish of me to hold on to a habit that is taking family vacations and extra amenities and many other things cause I feel the need of spending the amount I do of Dip a day/week/year. Right now im at about a little over a can of Skoal Straight a day. Ive loooked into alternatives and am planning on getting a couple samplers to see what I like. I need to do this.
Now to address myscreen name. Anytime I take out a tin or comeout from the gas station my son alwyas says " Daddy you need to stop eating worm dirt" You know its bad for you" So it is a constant reminder to myself that an 8 year old thinks the world of me and Im his hero. And what kind of hero knowingly does something to hurt himself. And I tell my son everytime "Don't worry bud I promise I am going to stop." I have too. He is such an amazing 8 year old. I couldn't ask for a better child. He is smart , well behaved, polite. I'm just blessed to have him in my life. Well I've never really tried to quit cause I haven't ever wanted too and my personality is that once I get my mind on something I dont stop until I get what it is I want. So I'm hoping this is the case with this. My quit date will be the day my shipment comes in hopefully friday. I will use this site as my tool to vent , to learn and to persevere. I hope that I can suprise my wife by our baby girls due date on April 15th and let her know I have QUITand it would be 95 days if she has the baby on the 15th. And if she holds out too the 20th it would be 100. So SKOAL you have been my mistress now and my right hand man on many a miles driven but I thinks its time we see different people. I just don't think we want the same things in life. You are just self destructive and are leading me down a path that ends with you keeping me from spending the most time with my family and I just don't accept that. I stumbled upon this site tonight by googling Smokey Mtn , and reading these posts from everyone and seeing the struggles that I thought were only had by me has solidified my desire to Quit. So to you ,You evil Bitch We're done! cowboy 'flush'

Some quick advice...
Quit now. Don't wait for the fake stuff to arrive. Who knows if that next dip of skoal could be the one that sets the cancer process in motion.
Don't quit for your son, your wife, your unborn child or for the sake of money. Quit for YOU and YOU only. Quitting for them is good motivation and jumping off point, but ultimately you need to do it for yourself.
I know you have this happy vision of telling your wife your quit when your baby arrives, but I think you need to tell her now. When you quit you are gonna be a moody, agitated, and grumpy as hell. You won't be able to hide this from her, and she will want to know why. You may not be "in the clear" in 95 days, I'm sure if you tell her now that you are going to make a REAL go at this, she will be nothing but supportive.
Remove the word "hope" from your vocabulary. Hope and luck don't cut it here. Hard work, your word, and brothethood do.
Now do yourself a favor. Read the welcome center at the top left of this page, and get your ass to April '14 and post role. Don't wait. Do it now.

James your story is like hundreds of others. Now let's clear something up right now, dump 'hope' from your vocabulary and replace it with QUIT. Next we see lots of quitter want-to-bes post their intentions to quit another day. Most walmarts have smokey Mountian and if you can't find some buy some seeds, hard candy, gum or just some straws and quit now. It will be challenging but one day at a time ODAAT works. I just won day 649 with no loses and that's after over 40 years of using. Pm me if you have any questions.

You want to quit.
You've posted all kinds of reasons why you have set a future goal for yourself. How many times have you set a future goal? I did it almost every day for 25 years. There are hundreds of thousands of reasons to quit, only one reason to continue... You are an addict. Guess what? And this is hard to understand... Nicotine consumption is a choice. Not a requirement. You don't need it for survival. Start saving that $12 today, wake up and tell your awesome wife and proud son what you are doing. For yourself. Be the man that you strive to be. But first, flush every scrap of nicotine you've got.
Then come back here and tell us how that conversation went. You will get phone numbers and contact info to help pull you thru the tough spots. You'll get more sage wisdom. And, again... Hard to believe, but in the not too distant future you will look back at this thread and shake your head and say... What was I thinking? Thank god I didn't wait!

Listen to all of these guys. If you reading back through this, chunk your stash and quit today. The fake stuff will come in handy for you on Friday or whenever it arrives. PS: I did this without the fake crap. Just couldn't do it. I do know this for sure, the longer you look forward in time to quitting nicotine the harder it will be to quit. Do it now before it is too late!!!!

Worm Dirt--I noticed that you still have not posted roll so you are presumably still using the shit you boasted about "being done with" in your last post. Grow the hell up and finally give that 8 year old kid something to be proud of his father for. Don't wait on crutches to help you walk down the path to freedom...do it on your own. We are here to help but you have to take the first step. Quit making your kid suffer in silence about his fathers shitty choices. Today is the day of salvation, not tomorrow...or whenever your Gift from God arrives. So, what is it going to be Hero?

Look up and a little left. See the redish orange WELCOME CENTER tab? click on it and start reading, look specifically at #3 it will tell you how to post roll.
Don't put too much effort into chasing fake dip that tastes more like "the real" thing. There is one missing ingredient that will continuously keep you chasing...nicotine.
