Title: First time intro
Post by: baseballbrett on April 26, 2016, 02:52:00 PM
Hey,

Didn't post when I quit back in February and lasted all of two weeks. On day 3 again, and I spilled coffee all over my new carpet. About lost my shit and had to hit a few things before I realized I was being an irrational idiot.

Anyhow, I'm 27, chewed a can of grizz wintergreen a day for about 11 years. I'd mix in snus and nicorette to give my mouth a break, but it's all an addiction. I am ready to quit throwing away money and stop being a slave to the can. This time around, I'm going to read the forums and take a hiatus from drinking too.

Thanks Nolaq for helping me recover my username. And thanks to this community for being a bunch of badasses.

You know the drill. Post roll. Since you fucked up, help out the newbies in the group, Be a leader. Share your experiences with them. Helping a newbie is great for your own quit.

Lastly, make sure you are committed to it. If you haven't dumped all your cans and got rid off the SNUS and cigs and cigars then get out until you do.

Earn some respect by posting roll and becoming a leader

in your quit group BaseballBrett.

Taking that hiatus from drinking is probably pretty important. I know for sure I won't be going to happy hour with my buddies. In fact my new deal for a few weeks now is that I do not drink at all, period, unless my wife is with me.

I know for sure I would cave if I had drinks in a triggerlike situation, so the simple solution is no drinking

Okay, my original intro sucked, so updating it now. Probably gonna take a page from ddodgesÂ’ book and use the intro page to rant and express my thoughts. My username is ghey by the way. Wish I would have thought of something a little better.

I am an addict. When I like something, I do it a lot. I had my first dip my senior year in high school. It was a pouch, and it was great. I felt like I had a perfect buzz going. I barely made it back home that night without shitting my pants though (loosens you up).

Next time I dipped it was long cut. We went to a high school house party on Friday night after consuming copious amounts of chicken wings at Hooters. It was Grizzly mint long cut. I had it in for about 5 minutes before I started dry heaving. Immediately my stomach was in knots. I only knew the people I came with. I ended up going to the bathroom , and I was in there for about 10 minutes shitting my brains out. It smelled awful. People were banging on the door, because they needed to use the restroom, and I was still finishing up my business. When I finally felt that my stomach was okay, I proceeded to exit the bathroom to a crowd of staring faces. I said, “You may want to give it a minute,” and promptly walked straight the fuck out the door.
Why the fuck I kept dipping after that embarrassment is beyond me. I continued to poison my body for 11 years. IÂ’ll be 28 in 18 days, and I have been addicted to dip since I was 17.

The millennial generation is big on rewards. I considered dip a reward. Got out of bed today – reward, dip. Worked until lunch – reward, bathroom dip. The after work dip was one of my favorites. After dinner wasn’t necessarily a reward, but more of a routine.
Then there are the routines. It’s baseball season, dip. It’s hockey season, dip. Taking a shit, dip. After any food consumption whatsoever, dip. In the car, dip. Drunk, dip. Getting warm outside, dip. Getting cold outside, dip. You get the drift. I could rationalize anything – still can.
Do I miss dip? You bet your ass. I loved feeling like a badass throwing that fucking dirt in my mouth and the way it deceived me into thinking it helped me focus. Am I an addict? Most definitely. I have an addictive personality. So why quit? Fuck dip. I want freedom. I donÂ’t want to be a slave to nic anymore. I donÂ’t want to cope with problems with a crutch of nicotine. I want to actually experience life without it. I used nic when I was sad and when I was happy and all the in-betweens. Now I want to be free.

IÂ’m thankful for this website, and for all of you BAQs that encourage me every single day. IÂ’m thankful for my August class and for the people who are taking the quit seriously and fighting the cravings hard. IÂ’m thankful that I stumbled upon this fucking website and that I actually started using it in the fog of day 3, which was 9 days ago. I used to think I could quit and sometime down the roadÂ… maybe 1 year or 5 yearsÂ… or even 10 years have another dip. But I know that would be suicide. ODAAT. Every day, ODAAT and freedom. Thanks everyone.

Pretty good smellin quit here BbB.

Just keep those thoughts in your head. Become a leader in your group. Hold people accountable, encourage, drop the hammer, whatever it takes.

It will strengthen your quit.

You have a tough few more weeks ahead of you. Come back here often. Let us know how you are doing.

My digits are a PM away. See you on roll call first thing in the morning!

Admitting that you are an addict is an essential early step. If we can't do that I don't think that we can really quit. If we don't admit our addiction we will always think that we can have "just one".

I'm rooting for you Brett. It seems like you might have some "dip romance" issues to get over, but the longer that you are quit the more you will see nicotine as the evil enemy that it really is - I think that you can keep nicotine at bay. There isn't a cure so you will need to stay vigilant.

I didn't quit until last Labor Day when I was 49 years old. I tried to quit lots of times, but I didn't realize that quitting by myself was never going to work. It is awesome that you are quitting at a younger age. You can do it too as long as you quit one day at a time and resolve to quit every day. That means getting your name on roll here each morning as soon as you can.

I quit with you today!

Good stuff Brett! making that jump from I've got a bad habit (addict-speak) to I am an addict (truth) is one of the hardest things IMHO, but is crucial for the rest of the process. Keep doing what you are doing and reach out if you need anything.

^^^ Agreed! It took me forever to admit that it wasn't a habit, but rather an addiction  that I was addicted. I agree as well, reach out if you need help. Don't try to do it alone.

Brett, your renewed intro is practically plagiarizing something I wrote 280 days ago in my intro. I can't tell you the degree to which I relate to everything you said. You're right though, freedom is so much better than anything dip ever gave you. I remember that buzz from the first dip in awhile and you're right, it felt like I was on top of the world. Then I realized what being on top of the world really meant. Time with my wife, time with my kids, and maybe most importantly time without wondering if I was going to contract cancer that day.

F all that noise my man. What you are doing and what the BAQs are doing is living life without the constant inebriating effect of nicotine. Real life is actually pretty damn great without the anesthetic of nicotine. You can and you will do this. Freedom is so much better than that occasional buzz. I promise you that good days are right around the corner. "Don't give up. Don't ever give up." - Jimmy V

Stay focus on first base brother.
In time you will cross many home plates!
Catch the ball.
Throw the ball.
Hit the ball.
And Sometimes it rains.
Post roll.
Build accountability.
Help others.
And sometimes it sucks.
I Quit with you.

Gratz on the 100. I didn't start dipping until I was 27, and you are quit at that age. That makes you 100% smarter than me! Enjoy the day!

Contrats my Missouri brother on your 1st 100 on this Journey. Don't look now but, you're winning! If you're like me, for the most part the last 60 to 70 days have been a breeze. You feel like nothing could ever tempt you to put that stuff in your mouth again. But don't let your guard down. Remember wastepanels Pendulum. There are good days and difficult days in your future. Stay active here. Never forget how your freedom feels today!

See you on roll bright and early tomorrow.
Proud to be quit with you today!
