Title: Day 1

Hi Everyone - Today is day one for me. I have been chewing for 28 years, and have tried the patches, gum and chantix numerous times in the past. I don't think any of it worked because I didn't have the right mindset at the time. Today I can say I will NEVER chew again. I found myself reaching for a can on my dresser as I walked to the backroom this morning when I rolled out of bed. Not only because of the addiction, but also out of habit. It wasn't there. Last night I dumped every can I had left. I went through all the normal hiding places; coat pockets, desk drawers, cabinets hidden behind cups and dishes, etc. I no longer have any Kodiak in the house, truck or hidden at work. I know this isn't going to be easy, but with your support, the support of my wife, and having the right mindset, I'm sure I can do it this time. Hopefully one day I'll be in a position to help others.

Good start coming here...now lets work on today...just today...you don't know what the future holds, but you can quit for today. Never never is a long time...look out to forever and you'll be overwhelmed...look at today. Post your promise that you won't use today. Then repeat tomorrow.

Misc,
congrats on day one! I'm at day 964.......yes we count them here! You quit one day at a time.

Get ready for a couple of days of suck! Embrace it......remember how bad you feel.......use that memory later if you think of caving........you don't want to go through this again.

Glad to be quit with you.......today.

Great decision. This will be pure, unadulterated, immortal hell. You have poisoned yourself for 28 years and now your body is gonna get really pissed when you stop as I am sure you are already experiencing. But it is so worth the pain to be free like all of us, and it gets better with time! I have already posted roll with you in the July group, figure it out and go do the same. If you have problems PM me and I will walk you through it. Listen, you can do this, you will do this, fuck you are doing this. We will quit with you.

We've all been in your shoes Misc! You are most definitely in for some shitty days ahead 'bang head' 'bang head' 'bang head' but you'll come through them on the other side.

Make sure you have plenty of whatever the hell you need to put in your mouth to keep busy..... seeds, gum, fireballs, fake dip....Anything as long as it doesn't have nicotine in it and drink a ton of water!!!

Read everything you can on this site  post roll every single day. If I can figure it out, it must be pretty easy!!

Misc welcome to the group. Glad you found us there is a great group of guys and gals here as you have already seen. Take advantage of the offers for support they are priceless.

Welcome to "THE SUCK" fog, anxiety, dizziness, rage, inability to concentrate. Remember what it is and you won't have to go through it again. The best advice anyone gave me when I came here was "It will suck until it doesn't and then it won't". He was right, I am at 15 days and starting to crawl out of the suck.

Proud to quit with you today.

Please don't hesitate to PM me if you need anything.

Great decision today and way to get in and post roll. You are quit!

Focus on today... Forget about words like forever, never... Etc. That makes my head hurt thinking about it. What I can do and I know you can do is stay quit this day. You control that. You control you actions right now.

Fight the nic B today bro. You won't regret it one bit. That stuff will kill you. Stay quit.

I realize that today isn't going to be any easier than yesterday, but I'm ready to put up the good fight. I have lots of water, chewing gum, and fake chew. Bring it day 2, let's see whatcha got.

Apparently u had AJ's number in your fone and didn't pull the trigger. Dumb ass lay off booze the first 30-45 days if you can't manage it. Do you wanna quit or drink up to u answer the questions too while u are at it. I am in class all day but will be checking back.

I've been texting with AppleJack, and I do owe you guys an explanation. He gave me three questions I need to answer.

1. What happened? - I went out with some coworkers and vendors and fell back into a very bad habit. Eating, drinking and chewing. I know it is not acceptable.

2. Why did it happen? - No excuses here. I caved. Plain and simple. I just didn't put enough thought into what I was doing.

2. What are you going to do next time? - As someone posted earlier, I need to get my shit together. I will think about how shitty I felt when I caved, talk to those I'm with for their support. This was an issue for my last night, because my coworkers had no idea I even chewed. They do now and I will be talking to them about my quitting.

Sorry brothers. Today I quit!

My head is officially out of my ass, and my dumb ass will lay off the booze. I definitely want to quit more than I want to drink. I do feel like shit and will remember how this feels the next time I get tempted. I honestly didn't think about texting AJ at 11:00 pm, and didn't know it was acceptable either. Lesson learned.

Hey,

I did answer the first 3 questions, but can you provide some advice on what an emergency action plan would entail. I'm really not sure how to handle that except to think before acting. Remind myself how shitty I felt this time, and to lean on those around me for support...and possibly a cuff in the back of the head.

Emergency Action Plan for you

When you are craving and you think you are going to cave, jump on and read. Take it easy on the booze...i'm normally a big advocate for living your life and just not being a dumb ass but you obviously need some training wheels while out in the world. Anyways...print off the contract. If you don't what that is then you haven't done nearly enough research on this site so i'm going to make you search every damn corner of this site reading through all the shit that happens when you cave. Keep that contract in your wallet or maybe your purse. When you feel like being a bitch and caving take the contract out, read it over, realize that you care about dip more then you do about yourself and your family and sign the fucking thing or, if you decide not to be a bitch anymore then read it over, politely tell the nic bitch to fuck off and die and continue on with your life.

I tried to respond to everyone. If I missed someone, my apologies. I am taking this seriously. This is my life and I made a grave error last night. The ass chewings, although not fun, have helped me realize how poorly I acted last night. I do not want to feel this way again, and will be reflecting on it often.

I now carry KY Jelly with me so I can slip my head out of my butt much easier and quicker than I did this time.

Yes that was an attempt at humor, but don't think for a second that I'm not taking this seriously. I am. I AM QUIT!!!

Very well put. I will do my research and I will print and sign the contract and keep it my my wallet. The only bitch here is the nic...and it is a BITCH.

we'll see....prove it. one day at a time.

The contract has been printed and is in my wallet. I also put one on my bulletin board here at work and will put one on the fridge at home so I can see it daily and remind myself that I do matter, my family matters and my new friends here matter.

I hope you are getting this misc. You are too old of a guy to be getting it wrong. I made it to 53 before I quit and have stuck with it. Everything said here is true. My own group has been whittled down to the faithful and the true dudes that got it. It's not just posting roll. It is getting involved in your quit and others here in your group. By the way did I mention I hate cavers? Yeah I do, but I love it when I see one get it and I mean really get it.... I hope you get it man!! I quit with you today!!!

Misc, glad you are back in the fold but man up and quit this shit!! Even though I'm only on day 16, you need to stick to the plan...

1). Post roll... When you do this you are giving your word not only to yourself but to all the July quitters to quit and us to you... Its a promise and your WORD... Don't take it lightly.

2). Get some digits.. I'll pm you mine and use it... You better have the balls to call me or another quitter before you even think about caving again..

3). Own your quit... I really don't know what that means to others but I have lived my quit for a long 16 days. I take each day and post here, get on chat and look at myself in the mirror first thing in the morning to say I'm quit just for today.. I'm on a mission and I'm not going back to that shit... Own it, man, in your own way...

4). Stay away from alcohol if it makes your quit weaker.... Stay away from other friends that chew currently.. Pick up some hard candy, gum, seeds, fake shit... Just do whatever you have to do to make it through the day..

5). Use the tools and wisdom of the vets here at the site and read some on this site.. It will show how stupid all of us have been being a slave to the nic bitch...

6). KEEP YOUR FUCKING WORD IF YOU ARE GOING TO POST ROLL.. THAT'S ALL... MY WORD IS MY WORD AND I HATE SEEING PEOPLE TAKING THIS SHIT LIGHTLY... LEAN ON YOUR QUIT GROUP, WERE HERE FOR YOU...

If you really take this shit seriously, I will quit with you any day, any time, anywhere!!

Looking forward in hearing from you..

Yes sir I am back in it. I am taking it seriously, and I can't argue with a single thing you posted. I got your numbers, and I appreciate it.

I'm back up and I'm not getting knocked down again!

1. I will post roll, make my promise and will not take it lightly.
2. Thanks to those that gave me their numbers.
3. I do own it. To me it means I care more about my family and my own life than the BS nic.
4. I wasn't aware alcohol was going to have that affect on me. Apparently it does make my quit weaker. That I'm not addicted to so no problem laying off that for a while.
5. I will read more, get up to speed, and get more involved.
6. I agree. My word is my word and I feel like shit breaking that promise. It won't happen again. I may be tempted, but I now have a plan and people to talk me off the "ledge" so to speak.

"If you really take this shit seriously, I will quit with you any day, any time, anywhere!!" - It's today!!!

Good! I used taboacco in one form or another for over 30 years. I am not special...if I can do it and others before you can do it, you can do it. Follow the plan you outlined, really believe in and comitt to it. Bottom line, YOUR life depends on it.

I am committed to this. When I got home last night my box of fake chew had arrived so that helped me get through the evening. Mornings are probably the toughest for me. Every day for 28 years the first thing I would do when getting out of bed would be grab for that can. Then it would be 2 to 3 more while having coffee and watching the news. So, I put a copy of the contract on the dresser where I would keep my chew in the past. I also do not spend as much time drinking coffee and watching the news. If I stay busy, I'm less likely to crave, or think about the chew.

Saw your post in July about itchy cheeks/gums. You are gonna have all kinds of weird feelings for a while longer. 28 years of dipping is a lot to recover from. Let the healing continue.

Just saw this....^^^^^^ x2....I had a very distinct tingle (almost felt like a hair brushing against my face) right where the front of my ear meets my jaw line on the same side I used to pack my turd. It used to happen all the time throughout the day. At 116 days it still happens but is much less frequent. I totally agree with Raider. It takes time to unwind the damage. I compare it to an itchy scab on a wound.
