Title: Day 3
Post by: lifterpuller on June 29, 2016, 06:45:00 PM
I've chewed cope and grizz wintergreen since I was 17 and I'm 33 now.

Quit on Monday 6/26 at around 9 AM. Made it through 6 hours of poker Monday night by chomping nicotine gum.

So far so good.

I work shift work in an industrial environment where dip is common and accepted. My first day back is tomorrow. It's going to be tough, but I got it. Going to continue to use nic gum as a crutch as well as seeds and regular gum.

I've read around on this forum quite a bit and realized that a quit is not recognized here until there is no nicotine consumption.

Which is cool, makes sense.

Therefore I have not quit...but I will not have a dip ever again.

And I will update when I am done with nicotine.

What plan are you using? Why is cold turkey out the question?

(And, out of respect, please do not use while you are visiting here.)

Also no disrespect intended but please no updates. I want you to man up grab your sack now and post roll! Once that names on roll then you will officially be quit as long as all the nic is gone and the quitters will keep coming after you! The price of admission and all the quit advice and tools you need is posting roll! The next moves yours, we'll be waiting!

So, when are you going to stop being a slave?

Time to take your life back from nicotine. Give it up. Cold turkey. Thousands of people here have done it and it works.

All you have to do is quit for today. We'll worry about tomorrow when it comes. Let's go. Sack up and quit.

Wow man, great for you! Honestly, I'm shocked and impressed that you got off the gum and came back. You have now begun your quit!

Get involved with the November pre-HOF group. They're all going through the same thing that you are and will help drag you through the next days, weeks and beyond. Posting a daily promise in that group is the price of entry and the backbone to this site.

You've already shown yourself to have character (recognizing the rules of this site and bowing out until you were ready to commit) and toughness (finally ditching the nic gum), so the ingredients for a successful quit are there.

To get this quit cake fully baked, stir in a measure of daily accountability, a helping of brotherhood by reaching out to those around you and then let bake for at least 100 days and you'll be there!

Kick some ass here man!

liftpull- good on you brother. I chewed from 15 to now age 32. I also had many attempts to quit using the gum/lozenges. They always failed with going back to the can. You're on the right path now. It will be tough fux the first week, maybe 2. then there will be a few other rough stretches. but coming to you today 5 months sober from this poison - I can assure you it is worth it. the freedom. the unfolding realization that nicotine never did anything for you - really just made things worse, not "bearable" as we tended to think.

welcome. I quit with you today and fight through the bullshit.

Congratulations on your quit. I tried the gum many times and it never worked. Drink plenty of OJ or cranberry juice to replace the sugars your brain produces when you use dip. Exercise to work off the jitters. Keep your mind focused on anything but the dip.

I quit with you today.

no chew since 6/26

no nicotine since 8/11 - I know, all that actually matters

proud of myself...first road trip in the books since quitting. The thought of it was giving me a little anxiety. Drove from NE Minnesota to NW Ontario (8 hours) then fished from sun up to sun down for 3 days and came home.

I didn't even really think about dip the last full day in the boat. KC BBQ bigs seeds helped.

No thoughts of dip on the ride home.

It's the satisfying feeling of not thinking about it for extended periods of time that really help motivate me more.

It's really nice not worrying about if you have enough chew to make it through a full day in the boat.

I did the same thing as you, I used a patch and tried to post roll. Oops! The good thing is you sacked up and are clean. I wish I would have tore the patch off 30 days before I actually quit, but I was scared. Funny thing is, there was nothing to be scared of!  I quit with you today.

Still going strong!

Smokey Mountain wintergreen is still a crutch on long road trips and at work

I am over this but still have occasional triggers that make me crave for a few seconds:

as I am walking out of the gym, especially after squat days
after a delicious spicy meal
when stumped while troubleshooting things at work

I am an avid waterfowler...there will be a new benelli purchased before spring snow goose season!

I have been dip free for 1 year and 3 days and I feel great about it...it's hard to believe the feeling of doom I would have when I thought about quitting before. It's tough to quit...but if you want to quit, it's not nearly as hard as you think it is going to be!

Last night I had a vivid dream that I had a grizzly wintergreen and I was extremely disappointed in myself until I woke up.

We post roll call here, not interested in your story because there is zero accountability to it. NEXT...
