I'm a can a day addict for the last 30 years. I've tried to quit on my own many times. I wasn't strong enough by myself to do it. I couldn't believe I was addicted. Didn't want to believe I was. That, in and of itself bothered me. Yesterday, January 13th at 10am - I took my last dip! Last night was a blast! I went to the store and loaded up on beef jerky, gum, lifesavers, sunflower seeds etc... Even went to bed early so I wouldn't have to be as miserable. Woke up at 1am in a cold sweat. I'm grateful I found this site. After reading a little bit, I knew what to expect. Made it little easier to endure. Looking forward to being completely nicotine free on Thursday morning. I know it will be a long journey, but I want my life back dammit.

alright there Outlaw, well done reading up as getting that education will help you as you proceed.
But now take that next step and post your word, your promise over in the Apr 14 group. Become a part of that brotherhood that will give you the accountability...another part to get and keep you quit as you proceed
click that welcome center if you have not and welcome to the group

Welcome Josey. Been dipping for 30 years and are surprised you are an addict? Well, you are now in the right house to quit once and for all. Let us talk for a moment about what we do to quit, why we do it and what you can expect for a little while. Everyone here has gone through the suck, ie, a few days of feeling like hammered dog shit. It is tough, but it gets a little better each day. Pretty soon the fog lifts and sleep issues start to straighten out and your mind will start working like it should. You did not learn to jam your mouth up with nicotine overnight, so don't expect everything to get back to normal overnight...it is a process. The good news here is that it will not take 30 years to accomplish. Your brain and body need time to adjust to working without the drug.
Now, go to the welcome center tab on the top of your screen and start reading the materials here. Also read the intros from the other quitters. Then, you need to post roll. Roll is your daily promise to yourself and all of your new brothers and sisters that you will not use tobacco in any form that day. You will post your name and the number of days you are quit each day in the April, 2014 quit group. Each and every day you will post your promise. No exceptions. That is the price of admission to KTC. Nothing more and nothing less. If your electricity quits working, your internet provider goes bankrupt or you are on vacation and will not have internet access, call or text a quit brother and tell the brother to post for you. Simple and easyÂ…and therefore, no reason for not posting roll. The reason you are put in April is that will be the month that you will celebrate being 100 days free of nicotineÂ…your Hall of Fame date. Remember, no one has ever died from quitting!
Post roll and look up at your inbox (1). That is a personal message from me with my telephone number. Use that number when you need to talk to someone. Lets get your quit started today. Wayne

The "dammit" at the end was my favorite part.
Welcome!!!

Let the games begin! Welcome outlaw and time to open a can of whoop ass on nicotine. cowboy

Welcome Josey! That's a cool name for a quitter. I'm thinking of the movie and how many times Josey Wales spits his tobacco juice.
From memory, he spits on:
The dog
The dead guy who would later play Uncle Leo in Seinfeld
A snake
The dead guy in the trading post
The salesman's white suit
Am I missing any? Probably.
But that's not important. Your quit is.
Post roll every day and keep your word. It won't be easy at first but gain strength from all these fine folks here who will support you, and know that you are far from alone. We're all quitting, just one day at a time.
-
Welcome Josey. Glad to see you're diving in head first. Taking your life back happens one day at a time (ODAAT). When you get a crave or feel like the suck is getting to be too much, do the following:
1) Click on Community then Words of Wisdom;
2) Read Tom and Jenny Kern's story;
3) Watch the video about Sean Marsee;
4) Read Randy's story.
If after all this you still feel like having a dip, unzip your pants, pull out what you got, and slam it in a desk drawer. That should solve the crave. In all seriousness, that shit won't hurt nearly as bad as chemo, radiation, surgery, etc. Each day we dipped we played a game of Russian Roulette with the nic bitch. Don't led the loaded chamber have another chance to find you Josey.
I'll quit with you today and any damn day that you're willing to put your life and the happiness of your family ahead of a can of carcinogenic worm dirt.
-
Welcome brother. Pretty much everyone here is just like you. Commit to the program and you will be successful. If you want my number shoot me a PM. I'm happy to check in with you as you go through the first few days of misery. After a week or so you'll start feeling better gradually each day. Get the poison out!! No more being a slave. Do it ODAAT. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! Be free!!

In that movie, arguably the most classic Eastwood line ever....
Eastwood: "You a bounty hunter?"
Man: "Man's gotta do something for a livin'."
Eastwood: "Well, dyin' ain't much of a livin' boy." as he shoots the bounty hunter.
Dippin' ain't much of a livin' either. Glad to have you on board Josey...

Thanks for ther words of encouragement and just checking in on me. It helps. Day 3 has so far been better then day 2. Day 2 was better than day 1. I did something important last night. I got my wife and two daughters together and told them I had quit. First time in 30 years I had go this long without it. I gave them the last can I had and together we washed it out in the sink. I figured by doing this, their really is no turning back. Plus, I know I will need the support. They I went to bed early and almost sleep thropugh the night. I appreciate this site and the good people willing to help.
Now if I could figure the roll call thing out, I would start doing that as well.

I am confused however why you are day three but still had a can in your home that needed to be washed out? hmmmm? Quit is Quit. Nothing lingering./span

Ginet, I completely agree. I did have the can for two days after I quit, but only because I was saving it for when my whole family could be together to get rid of it. Stupid I know, but I wanted it to show everyone I was serious. Anyhow, it is gone. Nothing else in the house, car, etc.....

You know, the other line in the movie that is very relevant to what we're doing here:
Lone Watie says "Indians Vow to Endeavor to Persevere!"
We have all vowed to ENDEAVOR TO PERSEVERE! And now that we have thought about it long enough, we have declared war on Nicotine!
'Remshot'
It is definitely a top 5 movie for me based on how many times I've watched it!

Some random thoughts on reaching One Year:
Most dippers will tell you that they don't want to stop using because they enjoy it too much. They can't imagine living without it. They wouldn't enjoy things like hunting, fishing, watching sports, camping, road trips, working, drinking, ..... without having a dip. I know this because I use to say it myself. Today I know that all of this is total bullshit and is nothing more than the addiction rationalizing why you shouldn't quit. One year ago today I started my quit. I pulled up my intro today, because I wanted to revisit where it all started and remember the journey. I look back at all the reasons that kept me from quitting earlier and realize now that I still enjoy all of those things without dipping and I wouldn't go back for anything. In fact, I don't even like to using the fake stuff now, so for me this is proof that it really was all about the addiction to nicotine, and not actually about enjoying the process of dipping.
When I joined the April 2014 quit group, we had over 75 members. Today, a year later we are down to 20 or fewer. I have lost brothers left and right that weren't serious about quitting. But through it all, I have built a support group that is rock solid. A year ago, I didn't think this would be possible. Today, I say that if I can do this, you can too.
A special shout out to Gdubya, BearHunter68, Cbird65, Sam83, Steak, and Doc. You keep me focused and Accountable. That is a dedt that I can never fully repay.
