Hey Y'all, I will try to keep this brief.
45 years old started chewing (yup football practice) at 12, which led to smoking and dipping. Yes, even at the same time on occasion, I am a special kind of dumbass! after about 15 years of that I figured I should probably drop one of them so I let go of the 2 pack a day Marlboro red habit. But it was all good I still had my trusty Cope. For about the last 15 years I have tried to "quit" and even made it past the 3 month mark on a couple of occasions only to have some insignificant event push me to buy a can. In the interest of full disclosure on some of the previous attempts I did use cigarettes as a crutch, one or two a day so not a real quit anyway. I actually stopped dipping late last week but am counting today as day one since I was smoking one or two cigarrettes a day until today.
I finally recognize that I cannot quit without help/being held accountable. I always thought i could do it on my own if I really wanted to, I know now that I was wrong. I have been looking at this site off and on for over a year now but never had the courage to sign up and just quit. Well I do now and I will be quit for good one way or another.
I am an addict and will always be an addict but I will beat this shit. I just hope that it is not too late, God knows what I have done to my mouth, lungs and throat over the last 32 years.
To all of you younger guys/gals out there trolling this site and thinking about quitting, just do it now. Don't be a dumbass like me, the older you get the more you realize just what you will miss out on and what kind of pain you will put those who love you through.
I fully accept my responsibility in this situation but I have to say, HEY NICOTINE 'Finger' 'Finger' 'Finger' 'Finger' 'Finger' 'Finger' 'Finger'

Well Rebel you seem to have your mentality right to begin this fight. Only thing left to do is begin the battle. If I was you I would reread your introduction everyday....Remember where you were, so that you never go back. Good luck.

Congrats on the decision. When you finally realize that you're an addict and the only way to live is to stop using nicotine, it makes all the difference in the world. It's cool to finally understand the addict brain and be willing to no longer allow it to do our thinking. The realization that you can't have "just one" is the first step to really being Quit.
The second step is coming here and giving your word that you will not use nicotine each day. You have some hard times ahead, sir, but you can do it. We can help.
I did not sign up for this site immediately either. But in my looking around here, I realized that these people were just like me except they were actually quitting instead of reading about quitting. I thought they were crazy to preach cold turkey and kept up my search for the magic elixir that would make quitting easy. It's not easy. Never will be. If it was, a place like this wouldn't even exist and tobacco companies would not be printing money. But, this place stayed in my head and it bothered me to my core to know that so many people were able to do this-to QUIT- while I sat around being a total whoa-is-me wuss adding up more and more days as an addiction feeder.
So glad I found this place. Glad you found us too, friend. Keep reading all you can here. Keep posting roll first thing every morning. Yell if you need anything. Folks will come running to help you.

Welcome Rebel, all of us share the same issues ... we're addicts. Know that you are too. Coming here and reaching out for help accountability? Hot damn! Exactly what KTC offers!! Jump in head-first, and "just quit", and do it every damn day. Keep wandering around the forums and read everything, there's 1000's of pearls out there to read ... it'll strengthen your quit.
I went 37 days solo on my quit (which sucked ass), and was very much looking for a lifeline to keep me from drowning ... KTC is that lifeline. PM me if you need anything, I'll be there for ya! I quit with you today brother ...

Welcome Rebel, you seem ready to be quit! Post roll, get some phone numbers, and don't use nicotine one day at a time, and I will do the same!
-
Posted roll ... nice! Stay quit for today, then tomorrow wake up, piss, post honor roll and quit again! Proud of ya bud!

Oh man Reb, you sound like you're ready to kick the bitch in the ass, and I love it! I too would dip and smoke on occasion, so I can join your special dumbass club also. Awesome to see you realize the pain and health toll this addiction has taken from you. Way to post roll today. Honor your promise and worry about tomorrow when tomorrow gets here. Anything you need don't hesitate to send me a message. Once you get established and your quit feet under you, I encourage you to come and post with the group I'm in (June 14). Another layer of accountability never hurt anyone. Quitting with you my friend!
