Welcome Dave! Congrats on what could well be the best decision of your life. There are no doorway dancers here, no short timers looking for an easy out. We promise not to use each day and back it up. Check out the welcome center and post your promise here. (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=8141)Give me a shout if there's anything you need... check your inbox (upper right).

Welcome Dave,

My advice is to start out by reading everything you can on this site, starting with the WELCOME CENTER, and the Words of Wisdom.
When you understand what it means to post roll, and can live up to that promise, do so. This place is not the empty promise you have given yourself many times in the past. I'll be watching for you brother! PM me if you need anything or have questions.

Be prepared and don't get cocky. The symptoms and rage will come. The real tough spot for me was around 50+ days. THat's when the mind games got real intense. These guys have posted good advice. The more you read here, the better you will prepared to meet the challenges when they arise. Get to know some folks. Send some PMs and texts, contact some quitters, and basically make a few waves. That way somebody will notice if you start having trouble. Quitting in the fire service ain't easy. You're most likely surrounded by nicotine. Overcome that fact. Be the toughest dude on your crew..... the one that is bad enough to beat addiction.

Adapt. Overcome. Never weaken.

I agree with radman. I was pumped up my first couple weeks. A lot of the time, I was like,, I got this no problem. The 30s hit me. I discovered the nic bitch was no joke. For me it came when my brain started to get a taste of reality. The mind games can wear you out. They come in spurts and want to destroy your quit. You have a long road ahead. When your feeling good prepare for the storm. One day at a time. I quit with you.

Today marks a week, right? Congrats! The chemical is gone now. But the mental game has just begun. Here's how you're gonna win that too...

I know you've heard it a million times. But ONE DAY AT A TIME is going to get you through this. Think about what that means...kick the Nic Bitch's ass each day all over again.

Here's the "one day at a time" mindset. What's done is done. That is that past...nothing you can do about it. The future isn't here yet...nothing you can do about it. But today is right here in your face...and you sure as shit can control yourself right now. Post roll, keep your word, read all you can on this site and live free.

A week is huge, brother. YOU ARE DOING THIS!!!

Good Job Dave, hope you have made it through your first week. I am on Day 67 of my quit. It gets easier, then it gets hard, then it planes out for a few weeks, then repeat.

Stay with it. At first I thought the Smokey Mountain tasted like shit, but like you, I needed something. Still using Smokey today, but plan on dropping that after Day 100.

Good Luck and keep up the quit.

ps. I am a nicotine addict and will always be one, ODAAT (one day at a time)

Dave, nice job on the first week, that's huge! We post roll every day as a promise to ourselves and our brothers and sisters. It may not seem like a big deal at this point but that promise every day and your unwillingness to break it will be the difference between stopping for awhile and being quit.

Here I am 2 weeks into my quit and the fog is clearing up.as I look back in the past 2 weeks I have realized what hell that I did go though. for those who just quit hang on day 1 is hard,day2 your craving, day 3 your having some crazy nic cravings and moody,day4 cravings are starting to let off but still want the can,day5 you stay hungry as hell and you bowl movement schedule is screwed up,day6 headache city from mild to throbing also can't sleep for crap,day7 first full week some mild cravings but there easy to forget, still can't poop right bunch of farting,no longer eating all of the contents in refrigerator, mild headaches few and far between, sleep becomes more easy,Days 8-12 body and mind kinda at idle speed.and now day 13 being able to remember what it was like.during the those days I really dint know if I was coming or going. But anyone can quit. its you that has to want it tho.I tell the guys at the firehouse if your going to be better than anyone here it better be yourself today, and don't wory about tomorrow untill its today. One day at a time this is how you quit the can.use this site contact anybody on here for help, for those who are in their early days of quitting contact me I will help and encourage you though the difficult battle.

Nice 2 weeks!!! Hell is what you went through. Please remember every horrible minute, crave, night sweat, the feeling like your skin is crawling, and all the other shitty fellings you had in the last two weeks. Let them be a reminder as to why you shall never have to repeat this again.....

Your quit now depends on what kind of man you are, strong or weak. You only have two choices... Choose wisely!!!

Don't know how you'd know about support 16 posts and 5 of those were in your own intro. It appears you are giving all of us a great big middle finger so here is right back at you! 'Finger'

Wow that is so freaking awesome. You are such a bad ass, and you even took the time yesterday to pay it forward. Utterly amazing dude.
Now all newbies, learn from this guy, learn what not to do. This is a pathetic attempt to be a part of this amazing brotherhood. I hope he stays quit, I really do but this is not the KTC way and it sure isn't indicative of our program. Stay close to the site, post roll and develop a relationship with your brothers and sisters on this site. This guy is lucky and will be even luckier if he remains quit for good, although I hope for his sake he is a lottery winner. See we are only $5 and a bad decision from a cave, KTC takes that bad choice out of the equation by the posting of you word and holding you accountable to it. Newbie use this site and do so with all your damn might, your quit will almost definitely depend on it at some point. Mine sure the hell has. Erussell.
