Decided 2 days ago while working night shift that I'm finished dipping, started dipping around age 15, hitting the 34 mark next month. wife has been on my ass to quit for about 7 years, (married that long now) :) . I have 2 wonderful kids a 3 year old daughter and 11 mth old son. About a week ago my daughter found a can of timeberwolf laying on the table, she opened it and proceeded to try and have some of daddy's candy! After that little mishap I really started thinking alot a quiting. so almost excatley 48 hours ago I had my last dip, but I am on my 4th pack of gun already. wish me luck

Hey Hunter Thompson...there is no invite. There is conviction. That's what posting roll in a group is. You got conviction to quit today? If so, you head over to Feb. 2011 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5397) and you put your name down saying your quit today. Then, you get up tomorrow and before that first drop of coffee hits your cup, you do the same.

@ scowick65 believe me bro i'm reading it because I have a bad addiction to nicotine, going into DAY 3 NOW!! today has been the worse day so far, decided I would go deer hunting this afternoon, I'm sure all the hunters will agree, hunthing on the 3rd day of quitting was not a smart thing to do. After being in the tree stand for about an hour, I had killed the battery on my phone (playing games) ate a bag of jerky, finally decided to just get down and cut a load of firewood. 'bang head' .
God bless my wife, for putting up with my ass right now!!!!

well done Hunter, but remember this. Don't quit for your wife. Quit for you. We've all tried to quit for reasons x, y, and z and failed. We never quit just for us. Now its time. Glad you're part of the quit crew.

sunflower seeds, Jolly Rancher hard candy, gummi bears, toothpicks, coffee stir straws, fake chew if you must (I personally don't recommend), lots of water.
I have on many occasions had too much sunflower seeds and the salt starts to wreak havoc. Other than that the last I'd offer is to brush your teeth more often. I keep a toothbrush in my car now...
You're doing great. Stay quit and keep hunting too. You will have to re-learn the whole sit still thing but you can do it.

Beef Jerky works pretty well.. especially when you get some grissle and it lasts forever. If you want to keep it longer.. don't chew it up all the way and pack it in with some flavor still in. David's sunflower seeds offer a bag w/ 1/3 less salt.. should help w/the cheek rawness. Craizens are tasty, do some push-ups etc..

Get some coffee straws (the small straws you use to stir your coffee). Cut them in half and use them like a toothpick(about the size of a toothpick). I chewed on them instead of candy, gum, seeds etc.

What has really taken the edge off for me when the cravings are really bad is I took a can of Bacc Off Straight(fake chew that is extremely dry or maybe mine is old?) and dumped a shot of whiskey in it and let it sit in the fridge.
It really helps me.

All of the stuff mentioned below works. Seeds and jerky were my saviors. Just be carful with the beer! Idle time and reduced inhibitions to an addict is killer. Ease off on the alcohol for a few weeks until you get your quit established.
