Hello, this is the first chance I've had to introduce myself officially but I've had a chance to chat with a few people on here so far and it's been awesome. I can tell you that I live chatted with a fellow last night that helped me get through the end of day 1 and sent some links for me to get here. When things were at their worst today, one of the first things I thought of when I wanted to go get a can was letting that guy down who took time out of his life last night to help me, so if that doesn't speak to what this group can do for those of us quitting, I don't know what does.
Long story short, I'm 43 and been chewing on and off, (mostly on) for about 30 of them. Been so bad last couple years that about the only time I didn't have it in was eating and sleeping, other than that 24/7. I want to beat this shit and I want to beat it bad so let's do this guys. I'm all in

Welcome and great decision to rid yourself of the poison. It sounds like you have had enough. It is going to be very tough for a while but if you commit to posting your word to quit everyday and can keep your word you can do this. Let's get this done. I quit with you today.

You have made a wise decision. Welcome to the group.

Here is some advice I like to share with new quitters to assist in your quit:

The main way to be successful is to just decide that you have quit. Once you stop the negotiating in your head as to whether you will do one more or not the rest becomes far more simple.

Next, learn to distract your attention from your desire for a dip to anything else that interests you. This ability to change your focus will guarantee your success and make your quit that much easier.

When you place a dip in your mouth, your brain releases sugars. Well, those sugars are now going to be gone.

However, you can replace them with OJ or other fruit juices with sugar. This will provide some comfort, especially on your initial quit days.

Make sure to exercise with weights and cardio when you feel that nagging tension in your muscles, you feel that rage, when you can not sleep and when you cannot focus. Exercise really helps.

Here is one that most people overlook. Get at least 3 square meals a day. Hunger can really bring on those urges. So squash those urges before they come. Eat full healthy meals and do not let yourself get excessively hungry. You will see this helps a great deal.

I waited until I was 59 quit after using tobacco for 40 years. You are wise to quit now.

Want to thank everyone who's quit with me so far. Today is day 3 and it's been my easist one so far. 1 and 2 were utterly miserable, today bearable. Discovered pumpkin seeds today and think they are officially my new best friend. It was nice to find something non-sweet to chew on and these did the trick. I'm not crazy enough to think the worst is over, I've been down this road before, but it feels different this time. That's what is keeping me going, it feels real and it feels right. This site and this group are lifesavers, and I think finding this site is the difference between this time and all the other ones for me.
