Title: Day 1 of my journey...
Post by: Canny on July 25, 2013, 10:31:00 AM
I'm 26 yrs old and have dipped snuff since I was 15-16 years old. I have made multiple promises that I was going to quit after my bachelors degree. Well that came and went then I said I would quit after I finished my graduate degree, nope. I seem to keep finding excuses on why I wont take that next step to making the right choice to kick the can. Today, I have decided that I have had my last dip of snuff. I threw away my spit cup and flushed the 3/4 can that was remaining down the toilet. I know the weeks to come will be rough but so far throughout my life I have not quit anything I started until I accomplished my goal.

Welcome. Lets get down to basics, go to November 2013 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=8568) and post roll. You can be the leader of the group the first to sign up and the first to reach HOF (100 days) in the month of November 2013. Don't think about quitting any day but today though. We can and do quit ODAAT (one day at a time). Your story is so much like all of us get out there and read all you can.

Dude! We were all in your shoes, caving and quitting, caving and quitting... this time can be different though, and it's up to you. Decide this is it, no more slavery to big tobacco. Decide to take your life back. Then... post your promise with your quit group in November 2013 every... damn... day... because guess what, I hate to break it to you, but you have to quit every damn day. It's not that big of a deal when you think about all the other things you do every damn day, like breathing, eating, shitting and fucking... well, maybe not, but anyway... come here and post your promise, to yourself and your fellow quitters, every damn day. Then.... and this starts immediately by the way.... get yourself some phone numbers! You don't have to go on a date with them, but I promise you these folks will help you with anything you need along the way. Your inbox will have my number, too. This, my friend, will get you some additional accountability. Quit insurance, if you will. Because if you're serious about quitting, and you should be if you want your health and your freedom back, you can never have enough.

I am also really damn proud to be quit with you. Don't let ten more years go by before you decide to do this. Today is the day. And so is tomorrow.

Oh by the way, good news.... don't worry about how hard tomorrow's quit or next week's quit is going to be. Just quit today. Then wake up and quit tomorrow. Repeat... every... damn... day... with us.

Congrats on making a great choice, Canny!!! You're right...the next few weeks will be tough. But not as tough as having your jaw removed or eating through a feeding tube!!!

By the way, I made all those same "promises to quit." Planned quit dates came and went. Milestones (graduation, first job, marriage, birth of kids, etc) passed by. I always rationalized just one more. I was a professional excuse-maker...until I did two things. One, got serious. And, two, found this site.

"One day at a time" is your new motto. And, who can't even go one day, right?

Post roll, read all you can and stay quit. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Look right here ^^^, this guy. You want to know somebody that came here to quit. You want inspiration that will make you think long and hard before you ever put the poison in your mouth again. Go to the intros and find this guy,, erussell. Pay particular attention to the last two weeks, you might learn something. This guy came to quit and I'm damn proud to call him my friend. You would be wise to keep him in your corner. Glad to be quit with you also.

Our first stop is somewhere near Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas to pick up Canny. This quitter is married and he dipped for 15 years. He drives a Chevy truck and enjoys hunting and fishing. Canny plans on heading out for the opening day of deer season to celebrate his 100 days. When asked he said that everyone that shows dedication to the quit are his inspiration, however he claims he is "undecided" on signing up for 200 days? Let's hope he's just pulling our leg. 'finger point'

Congrats Canny!

Congrats Canny! I never had a doubt that someone from my hometown would be a true man of his word.

I too hope you are kidding about signing up for 200 days. Remember how successful you were on quitting without KTC??????????????

Hey guys thanks for the support, right now I am not planning on officially signing up for 200 days. However, I am continuing to keep track of my quit. The main reason that I am not officially signing up is because I cannot guarantee that I will post every day, its that simple. I am grateful for the support and I honestly do not want to commit to something that I am not 100% sure will happen. I will maintain my quit and I know what it took to get to this point and like I said I will not disappear and I will check in and post my roll.
