Hi all. Well chewing is (was) my dirty little secret that my wife didn't know about. Last week on 12/17/2014 I didn't realize I was taking my last pinch of cope. On 12/18/2014 I had my wisdom teeth pulled, and as I was laying there I could here the surgeon telling my wife that he could tell I chewed and that I cant chew for at least 3 weeks. Needless to say she was not happy hearing any of that information.
At first when she was telling me all this, my first thought was, three weeks are you kidding me? What a jerk I am, especially since I've been wanting to quit I just haven't. So I guess here goes nothing.
I work in law enforcement, which means long hours and shift work. Chewing to me was something that would keep me awake, get me through the long drives and or long hours in processing. I am 31 years old and have been chewing for about six years now. I have a very addictive personality and I know that this is going to be difficult but at the same time I would rather deal with quitting then the consequences of continuing to chew.
All in all I am about a week into quitting and tonight I bought a can of pouches. I put in 2 of them and really began to feel sick almost right away. Good or bad, I'm not sure but that's when I found KTC and am making my decision to quit once and for all. I am going to need some serious help though from you guys if that's not too much to ask for. Thanks in advance!

Why are you quitting, exactly? Just curious.

Being an addict really sucks in some ways, but in others it is a great thing. Most of us on this site do everything to the extreme. If we climb mountains, we think of Everest. At work we are balls to the wall. When we workout we are sore for days. It is part of our genetics. You have to wrap your mind around going balls to the wall of quitting.
The price of admission here is posting your name on roll call first thing every day when your eyes open. You do it before going to the bathroom, feeding the dog, reading the paper... First thing! Roll call is your promise to yourself and the bad ass quitters on this site (like grizzclaws) that today, and only for today, you will not use nicotine in any form. You can do anything for 24 hours if you are a man of your word. If you are a liar, you have no chance. If you are a man of your word and you follow the plan you will succeed.
Will it be hard? Fuck yeah it will be hard! Yes. But you can do it. If some weak ass dude like me can succeed, a bad ass cop like you can. Post roll. Keep your word. Throw those douchebag pouches out and start making yourself proud. Read over your intro and it is clear what is dominating your life... It isn't you, your wife, your job... It is an addiction to nicotine. Let's turn the tables and take freedom back. If I can help send me a pm. My number is yours for the asking... Once your name is on roll call.

Moortac, Dump the can and quit. It's that simple. But you can't do it because the Dr told you to or because your wife hates it. You started dipping. You have to quit dipping. Until you do it for you, your chances of success are pretty low.
This site will get you there if you use it and embrace the tools available. The program is pretty simple: Post roll everyday promising your quit group and the rest of the members you won't dip. Then don't dip.
When you dump that can and decide to quit, you'll be in the April '15 quit group. Read the info at the Welcome Center, go post roll, and get started with the rest of your life.

Moontac:
Welcome. I also have had my wisdom teeth out recently and understand what you are dealing with.
Although I don't work in law enforcement I do work in Fire-EMS and understand your shift work struggle.
You should take to heart what Grizzly said: Why are you quitting exactly? - have an answer, a good one and never forget it. Have passion against it. You must hate the Nic bitch because she will temp you.
Welcome and post up.

Congrats on a great choice, Moortac. Giving yourself the gift of freedom. And giving your family and loved ones the gift of you. Check out the Tom and Jenny Kern Story. Your wife may have been pissed when she learned you dipped. But think of how pissed she'll be when you go through disfiguring jaw removal, chemo, feeding tubes and death. I bet she'll want to dig you up and kick your ass.
But joking aside...this is life and death what we're doing here. Learn how and why we post roll. Then do it...everyday. Three weeks is babyshit compared to what you're about to do. Just give your word that you will stay quit all day (that includes all nicotine...even those stupid fucking pouches) and fight to stay nic-free all day like your life depends upon it. Because it does.
So go post roll and begin living your life of freedom ONE DAY AT A TIME!!! You can do this!

How are you, Moortac? Did you dump that can?

Dump the pouches and join up with April. You need to quit for you, not your wife. At the end of the day, we only have ourselves. I'll be looking for you in April roll call.

you WERE quit for a week, now your back to day 1 cause you had pouches. KTC has a zero tolerance for nicotine..no matter what you think would help you in the end..no pouches, no gum, no patches..etc. Congratulations for deciding to quit, but quit for real this time!!

We have clearly defined a plan that has a 100% chance of success. Good luck.

I guess Moortac wasn't ready to face the music.

Quitting is hard and not for everyone. I hope Moortac reconsiders it, because it was the best decision I made in 2014, if not since the day I asked my wife to marry me (2001).

Maybe Moortac was the first case (http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/nicotine/anal%2Bprolapse) the researchers were looking for.

Cheating on his wife was no different than lying about using while recovering from surgery. We should have a poll of the stupidest things we did to get our fix. I can't count the times I filled my face while still numb from having teeth extracted. Couldn't even hold the spit in, just drooled.

Do you know what is weird? You mentioned having oral surgery... I had a periotonsillar (sp?) abscess removed from my throat on Thanksgiving Day- 2 years ago (I was 35 years old), and the ENT surgeon said "I can't say tobacco is what caused it for certain- but it caused it" - It blocked my airway and it was emergency surgery, I still had a dip in my mouth at that hospital when I went in. I remember all when they first tried to lance it, and all the puss was coming out and it smelled like a dead cow - if you ever smelt one - the gagging it was terrible. Jimney Christmas - so stupid - 2 years later I am (was) still dipping, and due to the surgery I could swallow all the chew stuff I wanted, man it was like dipping with a new/fresh lease... never had to spit it out ever again... Anyhow, I remember coming out of the hospital, and making my wife stop at the store to get a can - pathetic and embarrassing. yup - its all getting out there now!

I sent Moor a PM because we work in the same field and figured I could impart some advice for what worked for me at work. Anyway maybe it frightened him off but his intro seemed a little weak, like he was sticking his pinky toe into the deep end to check the temp. I told him this was an all in affair and it was the best method to quit, but you had to want it or you were spinning your wheels. I guess quitting isn't for everyone. Moor if you ever read this and decide you are ready, you will find no better place to quit!

Come on, Moortac. You can do it. You'll have plenty of support
