Hello to All: :)
I've been using some type of smokeless tobacco for at least 35 years, started with loose leaf and went to snuff. I have to be honest, I've been a failure in the past when I've attempted to quit! Most of my attempts only lasted a day or two. I would always find a STUPID reason to startup again. And when I say STUPID they were STUPID excuses!
So I have my date picked but My big question is for substitutes, has anyone ever tried the Nicotine Lozenges to curb the desire? Maybe I should ask if there is something that will help curb the desire better than other things?
Has anyone ever started before their projected start date?

Morning Pavo!
I dipped for over 24 years. I tried to quit many times and failed miserably until I found this site. If your word means anything, you can quit. Here we post roll giving our word of honor that we will not use Nicotine in any way shape or form for today. We keep our word. No matter what.
Don't bother with the nicotine replacements, you are addicted to nicotine. As far as the other "substitutes", I found sunflower seeds most helpful for the oral fixation. I was like a dam chipmunk for about 120 days. Then I didn't seem to need them any longer.
This next part you are not going to want to hear. There is no tomorrow. Your planned quit date will most likely fail. Your addict brain tells you you have a quit date because you can keep shoving nicotine in your mouth. You are a slave. You will find any way to get your next fix. You are anxious and very hesitant to quit. You dread it in fact. But as long as you say you will quit in the future, you feel good about yourself and you get to dip. It's a win win in your mind. But you are losing.
Can you give me one reason why quitting tomorrow will be better than quitting right this instant? If you have made the decision to quit, right now is the only time. Period! No more excuses!
If I can do this, you can do this!
You have no idea how much you have given up in your life. Your quality of life will improve like you can't even imagine. The freedom is worth it!
Balls in your court Sir!

No, I was a giant pussy that used a patch for a month before I grew balls and quit for good.
Don't be me, just quit NOW. It does work, and I have had a long enjoyable freedom from nicotine for buying in to the system. No planning will kill the SUCK, so jump in.

It is important to have your head in the game for sure.....With that being said...Quit at Noon...Take your last dip at 12:00 on 3/20/17. By 3/31 you will have already been quit for 11 Days and well over the physical withdrawal. I have tried to quit many times in the past all while using some type of aid. I am quit 79 Days COLD TURKEY from 3 cans of Cope LC a day just using this site and the brotherhood of quit. Do it now and you will be glad you did. Learn to hate that F$%#ing cat shit that your packing in your lip. Its a dead weed that destroys families. If I can do it you can do it. See you in June Pavo.

Hey Pavo,
Yeah, I planned a quit date. Put it on the calendar at home for all to see.
2 days before that date arrived the can I had ran out.
So... I just said fuck it! Pulled the trigger and here I am! 22 days.
22 days doesn't sound like a lot, but for me it is.
I found that the mind games I was causing myself with the whole quit date, was worse than the quit!
Then the suck set in... Feeling fuzzy headed, pissed off, confused.
There's a host of shit that happens when you quit the poison. But all it takes is
one day at a time....
I'm here for you if you need me! PM me!

Hi Pavo, welcome and congrats on a good decision. Head over to the June quit group and put your name on the roll if you are truly committed to quitting. Yodal and I are both in that group. But know that when you put your name on the roll, you are making a promise to us, and when we put our name on the roll, we are making a promise to you. We take that shit seriously. PM me if you need any help posting roll or my digits.
-
Congrats on a great move Pavo. Now all you have to do is be a man of your word and you are well on your way. You can do this!
-
OK Day 2 -- I'm sure everyone has been though this but I only slept about 2 hours last night and that was on and off...never know they were so many info ads on TV!!
Proud of myself as I went store yesterday by myself and didn't purchase a can! boy did I want to, that was a biggie for me!
Did pick up some sunflower seeds and trail mix which seem to help me. Oh and been drinking a lot of water!

Nah... you didn't really want too... cause you posted your promise on here. You won't let yourself down, much less your quit bros once you've posted your promise. Only a sociopath wants to do that.
Now, you might have had some bad cravings, but you pushed those aside and celebrated WINNING!
Congratulations, sir, on a job well done.

Get your head around feeling like crap for a solid few weeks, maybe up to 2 months (and remember this every time you crave! Caving = repeating this crap!). The sh!t side effects are your body showing you just how badly you were poisoning yourself. I too had some sleep issues, but mostly I was just an angry, angry b!tch. :) Killing myself at the gym helped grind my anxiety down and helped me sleep. Lots of people go the Z-Quill route for the first few weeks. I also swear by lithium orotate and l-theanine, both anti-anxiety and both all natural (can be found on Amazon). Take it one day at a time, and reach out to the rest of us with all your questions/concerns. Somebody on this site has been thru the exact same side effect, and can offer help/advise on dealing/treating. Just take it one day at a time, minute by minute if you have to. It does get better, and the pride and sense of accomplishment you'll feel later is amazing. Quit on!

Thanks Work to win for the engorgement!
Day 3 - yesterday wasn't that bad, someone suggested to try Sunflower Seeds and that seems to be working for me but I found the roasted and salted kernels takes my mind off off the cravings.

Thanks for the suggestions!
Last night I found that Melatolin about 3mg works GREAT to help me sleep.
-
Day 3 update....
Last night was a much better night as I stated in a previous post I used Melatonin as a sleep aid and it worked GREAT, slept like a baby for 7-8 hours no problem!
When out and picked up some Roasted and Salted Sunflower Seed Kennels and Honey Roasted Nuts, I think I might be part hamster ;) ...
Did some research yesterday, we all know about the nicotine in the can but how about other carcinogens? If you are interested check out this Carcinogens in Copenhagen (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2892835/) page. Picked one the the harmful chemicals listed just to remind me why I want to KTC! Check out Radioactive Polonium -- James Bond uses this stuff to take care of his opposing forces quietly. You would think the Nicotine and Radioactive Polonium would be enough for anyone to KTC, but I'm an idiot sometimes...I'll do more reseach on carcinogens later today.
Feel much better this AM, going to go out and get some things done around the ranch to keep my mind off of the can!

Yep, lots of poison in that there can. Really evil stuff!
There are many reasons to quit. I think quality of life will be the best reason. It will greatly improve.

Day 4 is here...
The Melatonin is working out GREAT as a sleep aid, slept so well last night!
Yesterday had to put some fuel in a vehicle, went to the gas station by myself and filled up and WITHOUT getting a can!
My little Victory!! ^_^
I guess all of the Nicotine is now out of my system and the brain games will start soon time for me to watch out for my triggers.
Many thanks to all for the words of encouragement!!!!!

coming through strong. Love it!

Congrats on day 8! Every day is another big victory. It's good you're paying attention to your triggers. Always be prepared to deal with them, distract yourself, find a substitution to replace dip during that activity, etc. Good stuff, see you on here tomorrow!

Some examples of situations where you have lost for decades and are now WINNING, day after day after day:
- Yard Outside Work
- Filling up the Vehicle with Fuel
- Full Tummy
- being bored
Not picking on you dude, but one of the things that I learned in this journey is that the sooner I change my mindset to beating the living shit out of this monster that I carried with me, and celebrating the win of beating that monster, the sooner that I moved from a fight to a win perspective....
You are doing very well sir. Well done.

Congrats on 100 days quit pavo!!
Thanks BrianG I can't believe I made the 100 Day Milestone!
If it wasn't for the Sis Bros here I know I would have caved after a few days just like I have before.
BIG THANK YOU to not only my June Quit Mafia but all at KTC!
Now on to 200 Days. ^_^
-
Gratz on your 100 days Pavo! Your story is such an inspiration for everyone. I just read everything from front to back and it's a great primer for anyone "planning" to quit. Great quit brother. Keep on going!
