Day one of my QUIT today. First chew at 15. Yesterday, my last at 29. 2-3 cans a week, upper lip all the time.
Yesterday, I had a doctor's appointment for a wart freeze on my foot. While I was there, I asked the dermatologist to take a look at my tongue cause I noticed a bump in the back about a week ago. Dermatologist said it is a dillated (englarged) taste bud, but need to watch it for signs of the big C over the next couple weeks. She asked me if Cancer was enough to make me want to quit tobacco...
Given yesterday's appt, my anxiety is running a bit high today. Good news, I scheduled a dental exam for November 7th (soonest I could get in at my work).
I know that God, my wife and KTC will give me the strength to beat this bitch.

The lord helps those that help themselves
Your wife has nothing to do with it
Ktc will help, but this quit is yours , the responsibility for its success or failure is yours.
You should be scared to NOT quit, your committing slow motion suicide. Hope is a fat chicks name. Don't be hopeful , DO IT.

ScrapIron,
You are the only person in the world that you can quit for! It's your quit. Stay strong and PM me if you need help. The next few days are going to be hell, I know, I just went through them myself. I quit with you today!

You are right, SM. It is my quit and the sucess depends soley on ME. I do and I will own my quit. I did not intend to deflect responsiblity, but I know that I need to be active (physically mentally) in my quit and am glad that I found this site.
Again, you are correct. I am not scared of quiting but rather the potential repurcussions of my shitting decision making past. I'm struggling with that the most right now.
I'm hopeful that my appointment in 2 weeks with the doc will go well.

Great choice, Scrap. One big threat to your quit is after Nov 7th, when you find out you don't have cancer (hopefully), will you keep your resolve? Some folks look at a clean bill of health as permission to continue dipping. I can guaran-effing-tee you that is exactly what the Nic Bitch will be whispering in your ear.
Read all you can in the "Welcome Center" and "Killthecan.org" links above. Decide now what you are going to do when the cravings get bad. Cancer scares are great motivation. I must a scared myself into quitting at least 100 times for the same reason. I always failed.
It wasn't until I actually got serious about quitting that I learned how to live nic free. I'm still an addict...we all are. There is no finish line or cure (regardless of what happens on Nov. 7th). But we can choose to give our word to live nic free today. And if your word is worth a shit, that is all there is to it.
Stay strong, stay quit, brother!

Listen to the advise given we all know what you are going through and what you are about to face! I want to add one thing about support from your spouse, they can't quit for you but mine has been one of my #1 supporters and has helped pull me threw the past 174 days!

You WILL get the bitch talking in your ear the second that sore goes away. She will be telling you it was just a fluke, you can have a few more before we part ways.
You do that and the next one won't be a scare.
'Finger' Nic bitch!

So you joined in 2010? What gives? Just imagine, you could have avoided this whole cancer scare if you'd have just quit the first time around. By the way, I seriously doubt you have cancer. However the fact that you're scared of getting cancer shows that you know full well that your tobacco use leads to such things. How much longer do you want to roll the dice?
Quit Like Fuck.

If you are quit right now, then go post roll call right now.
Day 1 is the day you quit, not the first 24 hours clean. It sounds like you are quit so go make your promise that you will not use for the remainder of the day.
Congrats on your great decision. Reach out if you need anything
