Hello All,
I have quit before, about 8 years ago, and started back after 9 months of being quit. Here I am again, going through the pain. Monday at 10pm was my last dip, and I have been going through the worst nights. Hallucinations and being short of breath on the first night. Tonight I believe i am hitting the 3 day mark at 10pm and I feel much better. I went for a work out, and I'd say my body actually feels pleasant and my blood pressure has gone way down.
I dipped so much for about 15 or 16 years; I am just glad that it's now finally over and I can be normal.
Keep fighting the fight! I going to read around and see how I get involved w/ the quit group.

Welcome.
Nice job posting roll. Keep doing that early every morning. We don't take weekends or holidays off.
One thing to keep in mind is that you have never quit before - you've only stopped or paused your use temporarily. Once we QUIT, we never use again.
Remember how shitty these first few days are, and never experience it again.
Also remember - we quit one day at a time. Forever is very long, today is not. Make the same promise tomorrow.
Proud to be quit with you.
-
Glad to see you join KTC!
Your are making a fantastic decision, it will be hard but KTC will give you amazing tools to utilize in your quit.
Let me know if I can do anything to help!!
-
Thank you both for the support. Tonight at 11pm will be 4 full days quit. It's great to have others with me.

emoney,
Welcome to the group and congratulations on making it 5 days. You have gone through the worst of it but it continues to be a challenge and it will stay that way even when you are hundreds of days into your quit.
As you know by know, the main way to be successful is to just decide that you have quit. Once you stop the negotiating in your head as to whether you will do one more or not the rest becomes far more simple.
Next, you will learn to distract your attention from your desire for a dip to anything else that interests you. This ability to change your focus will guarantee your success and make your quit that much easier.
When you place a dip in your mouth, your brain releases sugars. Well, those sugars are now going to be gone.
However, you can replace them with OJ or other fruit juices with sugar. This will provide some comfort, especially in your initial quit days.
Make sure to exercise with weights and cardio when you feel that nagging tension in your muscles, you feel that rage, when you can not sleep and when you can not focus. Exercise really helps.
Here is one that most people overlook. Get at least 3 square meals a day. Hunger can really bring on those urges so squash those urges before they come. Eat full healthy meals and do not let yourself get excessively hungry. You will see this helps a great deal.
I waited until I was 59 quit after using tobacco for 40 years. You are wise to quit now.
I quit with you today.

Great, thank you for the advice. I have picked up on being able to distract myself, and focus on something else to get the urge to pass. I did not know about the sugars though. I will get some orange juice; I was wondering today what I could do instead. I have been drinking lots of black coffee for something to do; but I will try having an orange or apple juice here and there.
I have also been doing to vigorous cardio and strength exercises ( squats/dumbells etc) and that really helps to elevate my mood and makes me feel healthy. Thanks for the great advice, and I'm glad to quit with you today as well.

I have just posted day 11's roll, but I wanted to ask others if they have experiences like mine.
I understand that these are irrational thoughts, but I am curious if others have these. Today seems to be especially difficult for some reason, and I think it's a mixture of the first crisp cool day/morning where I am, and a little bit of the novelty has warn off from freshly starting the quit.
So, does anyone else have this irrational but convincing thought, or something similar?
Irrational Thought: Thinking back on the great memories and girls I had dated through all of my dipping years. Dip was always there, I was happy, therefore dip can't be bad.
This might be a cool topic for discussion somewhere. Would this be better off posted in my quit group? I am in the Jan 18 balls of fury group which is heavily active.

Dude,
I think that thought is what would always have me cave in the past when I would "stop" dipping. That, and this other thought, "I'll just have one today, and get back to being done with it tomorrow." or "I'll just dip when I'm fishing, or golfing." Never worked. I'm an addict. I wish I could be a "social" dipper. I can't though.
It's not worth it. This first week of being quit, and accepting that I will never have nicotine again...for the rest of my life...although completely overwhelming, is still the most freedom I have ever experienced in my life. That shit is bad. I have missed out on too many good things because I would choose to go somewhere alone so I could dip.
Happy to be quitting with you.

Hello,
I’d like to get back into a quit group. I experienced a stoppage with the help of ktc from oct 2017 until about September 2019. I eventually stopped posting here and caved much later. Then I stopped from dec 2020 until July 2021 about 6 months then caved a month ago.
I’d like to do this with the accountability that ktc brings again. I know I’ll have some questions to answer but I’d like to find the right quit group. But consider this my day 1 and promise not to use nicotine today. Thanks

Welcome back @emoney (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=14028) but it is time to be drinking the KTC koolaid daily now. November would be your quit group and you can find it here https://ktcforum.org/index.php?topic=17142.0 .Yup you need to answer the questions and be willing to to accept what everybody says. No walking away mad because you are being called out. You came here for help and we are willing to help.
Q1-what happened?
Q2- why did it happen?
Q3- what are you going to do differently this time?
I am willing to help as you will have many more offer. You know this system works but you thought you could go it alone. I thought that also for years and that is why I failed every time. You have been here and you know the drill. My didits are only a pm away and they are yours if you want them.

Does anyone know how to change your quit date? I found a spot that displayed it but I couldn't change it. Thanks
emoney
-
For me it's under profile. Go to my profile then click modify profile, and it's under look and feel on the bottom.

Some advice... I'm not the world's most active guy on here. Never was, definitely I'm not now. But... Invest in your quit. Get to know a few people. You don't have to post like Dog (caved), CNC (still quit last I heard), or Srains (badass quitter I text with daily) but spend some time reading and contribute a bit here and there. This place is littered with people that drifted away and later caved. Better yet, if you're near a major metropolitan area find other guys in the area and go have lunch or a beer. The thought of having to explain myself to guys I met in person quickly set me back on track many times in the early days. If you can't make meet ups happen make it personal. Share pictures, get to know families, etc.

@Rogerpersson when you say, Dog - are you referring to Dogonhunt? Because, he left KTC due to personalities from what I remember. He was probably one of the most influential for me at the time as well.

Yes, that's who I mean. He was banned, unfairly in my opinion, but what happened is water under the bridge. Regardless he later caved which is sad. Still a good dude in my book and I still exchange a rare text or two with him.
Regardless my point is you don't have to have a gazillion posts a day or be Mr Active on this site, but go make some real relationships. It takes accountability to a level way beyond posting a number on a website. I spent last weekend hosting 2 badass quitters at my house, going for a long hike together, drinking too much, and having some great meals. If I have a super shitty day tomorrow or next week/month/etc they will be first thing entering my mind instead of going back to dip. I have let my family down before, but I have never let these guys down.

Wow that sounds like a great weekend! Good to hear you guys were having fun. And that's too bad to hear about Dog, he must've caved after me because we exchanged texts long after I left KTC.
Thanks for the advice. I'm definitely quit now not going back. I have the knowledge that going back is not anything like what you fantasize it to be anyway.

I just sent Dog a text. If he really caved, it would be so great to get him in our November group. He was a really great positive personality to have around.

We could really use some more quitters in our November group. If you want to feel the best you’ve ever felt then rid your body of that constant dose of poison starting right now. Come and join us and post roll today.

Consider sending these types of messages over PM instead of diluting my thread with administrative /logistical concerns. These types of messages get in the way of the mission here.
If you could, go ahead and remove these last two messages between you and I.

KTC is built on such tenants as honesty, integrity and transparency. As addicts we love to lie, bend the truth and hide things. Because we are fighting an addiction and transparency is important here, we only remove posts on rare occasion, i.e. they stem from a spam account.

The message posted actually does resemble spam. Again, take or leave my recommendation to handle this over a PM in the future, but It seems like the mission of spreading the quit should be the priority without interleaved spam messages. This is adding fuel to my suspicions that ego sometimes trumps the mission with some on this board.

You are free to interpret it how you wish but you don't get to come (back) and dictate the way the site is run.
Instead of arguing with me in here, why don't you take that energy and passion and engage your fellow quitters.
And if by ego you mean me trying to kindly explain why I addressed this here publicly, than so be it. Addicts are a funny bunch I tell ya.

I gave a suggestion. I’m not dictating anything, just pointing out that is likely the reason for a lot of the behavior I see with some. This is one example, another would be members who seem to really enjoy the part about going after cavers then ghost once the caver explains themselves.
Hopefully there isn’t too much “addict speak” in here, that seems to be the favorite fail safe for some to win their arguments. As shown in your last passive aggressive sentence, “addicts are a funny bunch I tell ya”.
So yes, the behavior I am observing right now is an elevated ego that has probably gone unchecked, along with a few others. I’m actually surprised some of your buddies haven’t come to your aid and piled on yet to validate you more.

Question though: you left ktc and failed? Then you tried on your own and failed? Maybe you need to slow down, listen to others, and get your quit on.
I'm sorry you miss your friends from last time. Make more or move on. Although I'll have every quitters back here any time they need me, I do it so they'll have mine. That's why I post still...even when my feelings are hurt or I think I'm right.
Why did you leave?

Question though: you left ktc and failed? Then you tried on your own and failed? Maybe you need to slow down, listen to others, and get your quit on.
I'm sorry you miss your friends from last time. Make more or move on. Although I'll have every quitters back here any time they need me, I do it so they'll have mine. That's why I post still...even when my feelings are hurt or I think I'm right.
Why did you leave?
What ya doing differently this time?
Pointing out nonsense from people with large egos who may have lost sight of the goals here is not mutually exclusive to listening to what people have to say.
I will continue to do that at the same time as quitting.
This is not a blaring example, but @wastepanel (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=46) ‘s post is definitely a slight pile on. Again, trying to invalidate any legitimate criticism of a vet/mod/admins action by attacking my previous cave.
To answer your questions, authentic or not, I left because I felt I didn’t need it anymore. I felt like it was a reminder of dip rather than a reminder not to dip.
What am I doing differently? I plan to keep posting roll here or atleast have someone I’m accountable to make this promise not to use nicotine every day. Not having that is what slowly eroded my mindset.

@MNxEngineer (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=21)
So quit then.

How about you stop stop piling on as well @walterwhite (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=55) ? Maybe go post something positive. I'm not complaining to anyone. I knew the predictable pile on train would arrive at some point. Who else is going to jump in?
You're exhibiting typical addict behavior - gang up on others and validate you're fellow addicts with group think instead of any of you ever admitting you made a mistake, or that you yourselves could actually improve. How long do you want to keep this going? Any other addicts want to jump in?
Oh big surprise, it's another "administrator". Some of you are seriously lost, if this is what you're doing with your time.
Seriously, let's see some positive attitudes here.

I've decided I am going to leave KTC. The "Veterans" will say it's because I'm an addict and want to go cave. That is not the case. I will quit everyday from now on.
I am leaving because I don't think this is a positive environment. Hopefully some will review this thread and decide wow, we really have become stuck and not able to look at ourselves. I can see that any suggestion turns into a flame war, how dare I suggest something that might help make the mission here top priority? Then the pile on by the rest of the "veterans" "mods" "admins".
This is just not the environment for me. I'm sure I will not be missed, and I am up for exchanging texts with anyone I've already exchanged digits with. I definitely am rooting for everyone who is quit, even those I have knocked heads with.
I'll be back to lurking, for however long my account is not banned.

Stick around…I’m sure you will find many positive people here at KTC. Just don’t confuse accountability with negativity. One will help you quit while the other is your addict mind telling you not to listen because it isn’t positive.

Not piling on man. I pointed out the flaw in your logic in that thinking you are more successful on your own. Spoiler....you're not.
In fact, you know what the success rate (6 months quit) of doing it on your own? 5%. With group therapy (or ya know...posting roll and making friends and staying quit), it still only rises 30%. You know why? There's no fucking magic pill and we are all doing our best to stay quit. I've done it now for over 10 years. You know how? Quitters here help me and I help others. I ain't guessing what my best way of being quit. I fucking know.
You think it's a pile on because it stings. Hard truths do that. Yeah...there are the assholes that only come out when there's blood and looking to destroy another. But assholes are everywhere.
You deserve to be quit. Be quit.
I asked you why it happened and what you are doing differently now. I did that because it's what we ask after failure. If you Dont learn from your mistakes, you are bound to repeat them. You have failed twice now. Don't make it a third because of pride.
Fucking grab a hand, walk with somebody, and be quit. If you're here for followers, go away now. Quitters are all peers. Nobody is more quit than anybody else here.

@emoney (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=14028)
I'll pile on. (Also not a vet, and not past 100days)
What the fuck? Its been 2hrs everything seemed fine here, a bit tense but fine....
By all means argue with anyone you want over anything you want, I'm not sure where the jump to leaving came from? Probably everyone here has stopped on their own at some point, and wound up starting up again. Silly pickle; Have to let some of it slide, or like I said originally: "Fuck them, just ignore them." Its not really a hostile environment, can't change what you are or what you've done. Every mention of addict isn't always a personal attack directed at you. And sure some prodded you with more questions, from the outside, he's doing it to try and make you think.
You realize its been 5 days that you've been back on here. And quite the 5 days you've had. I don't think you're going to get banned for complaining about perceived egos.
-
We could really use some more quitters in our November group. If you want to feel the best you’ve ever felt then rid your body of that constant dose of poison starting right now. Come and join us and post roll today.
emoney
Like emoney said, come take your life back and enjoy the freedom that comes from being QUIT! You are stronger than a dead plant in a plastic can.
Jump into November and get started on your quit: https://ktcforum.org/index.php?topic=17142.0

Ok I'll stick around for posting roll and being with my group. But, that doesn't mean that there aren't some stubborn assholes here that just back each other up for sake of beating down people, and legitimately prioritize that over improving things.

When I joined this site it felt a bit like joining a college fraternity. There seemed to be a bit of hazing to get to HOF. I think most people who post in intros are here to help and to try to get folks on the right track. Merging introduction threads is normal here - even mine was merged after a site change - and I never caved. lol

@emoney (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=14028) Everybody has an asshole so we all know how to be one. Just stick with posting, helping others in your group and helping others outside your group. I have met some awesome individuals on here which became family to me. I also met some here that are like a hemorrhoid that refuses to heal. You learn which of them they are and just ignore them. The big thing here is to stay quit and help others. My digits are yours for the asking.

I’m strong in my quit and resolve today. But I know what can happen as the resolve erodes. I find the most dangerous warning sign is when the nic bitch starts whispering that something (you thought) made you happy can’t be that bad. When you don’t have the daily affirmation of the promise with other quitters she erodes more resolve everyday.
How have some quitters dealt with this? I feel like it wasn’t an issue when posting roll so maybe the answer is that simple. Post roll every day.

Yeah, post role.
But posting role only works because I know there are quitters on the other side waiting to call me out if I don't show up.
Be that person.

I have WUPPed 224 days so now if I’m brushing my teeth and I’m not on roll allready I feel weird like something is missing ! Posting roll is literally the first thing I do outside of drink a glass off water , that being say a day cam mid 100s where I was struggling , but I told myself “ shit o could use a dip , but I allready made my promise and the day is allready half over. I’ll just see how I feel on the morn and hope this passes! It does pass! Every time that’s how tricky the nic bitch is. Also my quit wall is so high with so many numbers and I post roll in so many different groups if I stumble they know it! In turn there on me or I would feel incredible amounts of guilt if I let these other fine quitters down! Think that’s why I still get dip dreams from time to time . Either way yes it’s roll, but also what you put into it. Wildcard section is a good area to get your mind off dip as well

Wildcard section is a good area to get your mind off dip as well
Thanks for the insight. You’re right though… it always passes. Every damn time and hours go by and you don’t even think about it. Then in the later 100s, days go by. Then weeks

Whenever I have any ailment my first thought is cancer. Whether it’s a temporary cut in mouth or any malaise feeling that’s the first conclusion.
From what I read here this is not uncommon among dippers/ex dippers. But I don’t see this happening with smokers. Doesn’t it seem like smokers are pretty confident in their decision to smoke? I wonder why this is when the risk is just as high and some would argue much higher with smoking. Just an observation.

Confident? I would say addicted. Lol. With that said, every drug/alcohol user, hell even daredevils, feel confident enough to control the outcome of their fix. Until they realize it's too late. In my opinion there is no difference between dippers and smokers.
There's a guy I work with, probably 64ish years old, smoked his whole life. Quit smoking last summer for a week, because "something wasn't right" and was going to the doctor to get checked out. Came back the day after and has chain smoked ever since. Never told what the doc said, but he's had two strokes since Christmas. He's back to work and still smoking. He also coughs and hacks so much he almost passes out.
Most of my buddies, probably 90 percent of them, dip. Over the years I've been shown some pretty disgusting looking mouth sores. Things that would make a sane person never dip again. They'll quit for a week or two, get biopsies done on their gums, and when given the all clear go right back to dipping. I'm glad I never went through that shit. It also reminds me, I need to go to the dentist.
But I also think the paranoia comes when you've been quit long enough to gain some sanity, and you think "I can't believe I did this to myself. I've probably fucked my life up good."

Addicted, stupid, or dumb works. That is the problem with addiction. You can justify the decision to destroy your body and life.

Thanks for the insights @Keith0617 (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1356) and @DaddysJunk (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=19429). The addictions definitely create delusions in the addict mind.

How’s that can treating you today? Not quite as fresh maybe a little dryer than usual? Not packing the buzz you were looking for? Gums feeling a little more sore than usual today? Do you have to go to the convenience store later to get more?
How about instead you finally cut this shit out and start feeling not good, but incredible. Get healthy with us in the November group we have some badasses in here to do it with you. You will not regret it.
We’ve got 99 problems but a dip ain’t one.

And that's how we do it boys. Jump in, establish a foothold, and then reach back and help the man coming up behind you. Don't break the chain; be an even stronger link every time you help another quitter out.

When do you post support in classes other than your own? Is that something you do with classes that come after yours?

@emoney (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=14028)
You can give support to any group. To the people I text with, I always post in their group when I can. It's never too early to also start posting in newer groups and sharing digits with a newbie to help them along. It will help strengthen your own quit in the long run.

I post mostly in yours because its after mine and I feel like its easier to relate and I don't feel out of place.
I also post in older groups but I feel weird and out of place (even more so at first). And with the first few to interact with mostly. Ideally all of the people who text me...

Feel free to post support in any group after you post roll in your home group first. No need to wait. We are all in this together. BROTHERHOOD!!!

Awesome thanks for all the replies.

If you quit right now, you will hit the hall of fame 100 days during the Christmas season. How amazing of a Christmas present would that be? 100 days and the rest of your life free from dip and nicotine.
You need to quit right now! Do it!

Bumping this since I am in a Christmas group myself (December 15).
If you can stay quit during the holidays you can stay quit period - just do it one day at a time and make connections. 8)
