hey guys, brand new member here. I'm 23 years old and have been dipping since 18 (with a year-long 'quit' in between). I've been planning to quit for a bit now, realizing that it is something I should do much sooner rather than later before I start running into more serious problems than butt-breathe and chapped lips. I live with a couple dudes who are intense dippers, so I am regularly surrounded by chew and the urges that come with it. I've made the commitment to stop this coming Saturday while my buddies are out of town, in hopes that it will give me enough of a head start (and time away from other 'dippers') to be able to grind out a full week without nicotine and continue from there. Even though I know none of you, I have major respect for the fact that you are present on this forum. Having attempted a quit before (I know that my five years of dipping pales in comparison to the battle that some other members are fighting on a daily basis), I realize the challenges that I will be facing. I've come here to ask for your support as I face these and, in return, offer my support to those who are also making the decision to kill the can.

an addict is an addict is an addict...it doesn't matter the amount of time quit or use, you're an addict, i'm an addict we're all addicts. Secondly, if you wait until Saturday, Saturday will never come...go dump your stash...all of it. And if you can't handle being around your boys tonight then go get some strange and stay over there. but quit now...

fair play, after posting I read some of your replies and immediately regretted giving myself another day... I should know better than to think that will hold up and you are right. beyond that, using my friends as a crutch or an excuse is just that addict in me coming out. they never force it to my gums and i need to own up to the fact that it has always been my decision to dip and will need to be my own decision to quit as well. i just know that being surrounded by these fellas, at least initially, won't make things any easier... words of wisdom on how to use them as motivation instead of temptation?

words of wisdom...first of all tell them you are quit. Don't tell them you are thinking about quitting just tell them you are quit...if they are good friends they will respect it and leave you alone. Secondly, go to wal mart or where ever might sell the fake shit...you can order it online too...and get some fireballs and some sunflower seeds or whatever. Third...be careful with the booze. remember this is a no nicotine deal..you got this. Really if you can't handle your boys then go stay somewhere else tonight if you can. When i was 23 i didn't know exactly where i could stay but i knew i could figure it out!

Already stocked up on grinds to keep me occupied through my morning shit n shower. While you're right that I could hunt down a place to stay for the night, the more I think about it, the more I believe I should stay and face it for the night -- whether it be tonight, tomorrow or next week I'm going to have to be around them and I may as well starting getting used to it from the get go. Regardless man, I appreciate you jumping right in with the response and advice -- I'm certainly a bit scared for whats to come but it already helps knowing that there is this type support

You are correct that you will have to face it sometime or another. Just make sure you be careful with alcohol tonight and it is very important that you tell them you are quit. You need to go post your promise in the August group that you won't use today. If you are a man of your word, then you will honor your word. Then wake up and post your promise again tomorrow.

I quit with you today willydee. You'll have to face your roomies head on. We all have chewing buddies or at least peeps who are tolerant of it, so we all had to face them at some point. Everyday that goes by with you quit is gonna show them what a bad ass looks like.

I'm qutting with you brother. You got this.

You can do it. Do it and do it now. It takes determination and guts. Show us what you got and keep us informed.

Read the friend dilemma. If you listen this quit will get easier with my next few words. Forget about everything that's not happening right now. One day, one problem at a time. There is a lot of information on this site. Look around, get oriented.
When its time to get through the friend problem we'll deal with that then. Slow you're roll, settle in and take it one day at a time. Suck in that freedom and feel that dignity your taking back each second.
Read, read and read. Learn you're enemy, it knows you. You'll be surprised at how much one day at a time becomes easier and easier with quit knowledge.
After time you will pity the fools. Great day to be quit.
