Hi,
I was introduced to Copenhagen by my best friend in August, 1982. Since that day, I've dipped about a can a day. I've tried to quit several times and you obviously know how it went. I've lived the fog, even got clear of it once, then fell off the wagon later on. Truth is, I have never "wanted" to quit, because I love the feeling I get from Copenhagen and also enjoy the flavor. It's a damn shame it has to be dangerous, but it is, and I have a wife and daughter.
I'm a closet dipper. I'm a manager in a business environment, and no one is the wiser. I only dip in private, so I have had no one to discuss it with. So, why now?
About 10 days ago, I started getting some pain in the lymph nodes in my neck, and in the muscles along the back of my neck, down into my back. I went to the doc and she said it's muscular because the symptoms for the nodes and the muscles started at the same time, yet they have no relation to one another. Lymph node swelling is common from injury (strain), according to the internet. So, I am on the "scared straight" program. It got too real to fast, and denial is no longer an option for me.
I need some advice. I've tried patches and lozenges in the past and I have them in the cabinet today. I have a patch on now (21mg) and I take a 2mg lozenge every couple hours. I'm convinced that Copenhagen delivers at least that much nicotine in a single dip, so I figured "stepping it down" might make things easier. On the other hand, it seems illogical because I'm delaying the break-through point. I'd appreciate anyone's input on that. Also, does it even count to say I'm nicotine-free if I'm on a patch? That doesn't seem honest, but I'm new here.
So here I am, day one, January 4th, 2014. I'm not looking forward to the office environment, trying to act cool around executives and engineers all day, but I paved this road and I'll drive the damned thing. Thanks for being out there.

First of all we do it completely nic free. No patches, lollypops, injections, or any other form of nic is allowed. Take them fukers off and trash em along with the lollypops and any other snuff you have lying around.
We do this cold turkey with accountability, brotherhood, balls, and strength.
You can do this.

There may be other programs out there that say "stepping down is good", but we are not one of them.
Think about it: You are not quitting the drug. You are administering the drug via patch instead of orally. And you are paying a premium to do so! Quitting has two parts: physical dependency and oral fixation. The physical dependency is over 3-7 days from the last time you administer the drug. It sucks, but "stepping down" is prolonging this step indefinitely until you finally do quit. Here's the worse part: You'll have to go through withdrawal the whole time on the patch, and you will go hardcore once you quit that. 'bang head'
The oral fixation aspect of the quit is much easier to deal with. Grab some seeds, gum, herbal snuff (nicotine free dip like Smokey Mountain Snuff or Hooch), cherry pits, etc. and stuff those in your lip. Hell, some people break teabags.
The key is that you want to be quit. Once you quit, we can help you more. Quitting is a decision backed up by action. You can do this because we did too. Thousands others have as well.
You ready to go man?

Read everything you can, start with the welcome center and post roll. Follow up with reading HOF speeches, intros and words of wisdom. Like Raz said flush everything. An antidote for Jim Jones koolaid wouldn't have been cherry instead of grape koolaid.

Its a damn shame you / we ever put the poison in our pie hole. It smells like cow crap. It looks like dirt. It has the taste of death. The shame is after we begin use we fall in love with something that is so disgusting. Take your life back, because right now you belong to the poison. If you don't mind i would like to talk to your master for just a minute.
If you do to bad, its apparent your not in control of anything.
Poison i hate you. I hate that you controlled me for years. I hope my friend learns the truth before its to late. I hope he sees that he loves you more than his family, friends and self. I hope after these few words he posts roll and begins this battle for his life.
As you were. Your move!

Okay, so this is where we start. Today isn't Day 1 because I'm on patches and lolypops. Day 1 is tomorrow. I had my last chew yesterday and went with the artificial supplements today. The easy excuse to go this route is that nicotine isn't what kills you, it's the delivery systems. It's a lame excuse and I won't use it. I've been through 2 boot camps and 24 years in the military. Nicotine can only win if I surrender. It's a hell of an opponent, though. Starting tomorrow, all the toys get flushed and I enter the fog.
Thanks for your answers. Only people who know what this is like can help. I'm glad I've found the right warriors to surround me and keep me from shooting myself in the foot.

Why wait? Start day 1 right now. Rip that evil shit off your flesh, flush the lozenges... Nicotine must go now. I repeat... Why wait? Tomorrow isn't any more special for taking your life back than right now. C'mon man... Do this!

All I have to say is why wait? What's so special about tomorrow? You need to know that today is what you focus on. Dump it, flush it, tear it off your arm and start. That wasn't too delicate for my female two cents is it?

I love the words of a strong willed woman (I've been married to one for 34 years). No good excuses to wait. I had a planned date 650 days ago and if this group didn't make me see the truth I'd still be putting the day off for one reason or another.

Okay. I just shredded and flushed about 70 dollars worth of patches and pills. Bring on the fog.
Thank you.

Thank you.
Today is the start of your life. A life that belongs to you. This is the best decision you've ever made.
Post day 1 in April 2014. Then keep your word today. Tomorrow post day 2. You'll never be sorry. I have yet to see anyone say. ... "I really wish I hadn't quit ." Not one person. You need anything. - let me know. We will do anything to help you fight this fight.

You'll make up for that 70 in less than a month. You spent 1000s on the poison. Time to start using the money for something else my friend. You'll be surprised at the extra money you begin to notice.
Glad to be quit with you.

Thanks. Let's talk tomorrow. That's when the fog will hit. Luckily, it will be on a Sunday. I'll check in and let you know how I'm doing.

Atta Boy!!! Put on your hard hat and try not to lick the windows.

You will win.

I can tell you how you are going to be doing..... But I don't need too.
When the nic bitch starts fighting you fight harder. Sleep, shower, run down the street in your underwear. Whatever it takes you don't give in. Just think of all the toys little Abraham got from his tobacco CEO dad --- WITH YOUR MONEY! He is killing your ass and taking your money to the titty bar. Are you going to take that shit, I'm not. Fuck him, fuck withdrawal symptoms, fuck oral fixations, you can't have my life or my money. I take it back.

No roll post, nothing. Hmmmmmm.

I'm going to do the roll next. The doc I went to see for my lymph nodes issued a muscle relaxer to be taken in the early evening, so I couldn't make sense of the instructions. Going in now. By the way, today really sucked. I'm about 44 hours into it.

and whether you post roll right or wrong is not the issue, the issue is whether you give your word daily. That is all we ask, and that is all you can do. Take it one day at a time and you will win

Congrats on 100 days nic free. If you are going to commit to 200, lets greatly improve your posting record. This is a journey and the price of admission is to post roll EDD!
