Title: 24 hours in....
Post by: LSUTiger on February 03, 2014, 04:22:00 PM
Hey guys. I'm currently doing graduate work at Georgia Southern University. I graduated last year from LSU. I have promised my soon to be fiancee' that I would quit as she doesn't like it. All I can think about is putting in a pinch. I know deep down that I want to quit, but it is incredibly hard when it is all that's on my mind. I have only been dipping for a few years now.

The things we will do for woman huh?

All the best,

-B

It's nice and sweet that you think you are doing this for her.

You better realize you are doing this for you or you will fail.

Drink the kool-Aid, put on your hard hat, and try not to lick the windows.

You can do this!!!

Joe,
First of all welcome to KTC. I am glad that you found us. You seem to have the drive to quit. The best thing you can do is want it and want it really bad. Remember to take things one day at a time, never ever focus on tomorrow or next week, fight hourly at first, then daily. As was pointed out already you need to quit for you, once you do that the rest of your life can bask in the glory of your quit.

Urges and cravings will come and go, rage may become a factor as well. You may notice that your body will change some good, some bad. Read up on that stuff here, those who have walked the trail before you can help guide you through things when you need it.

Now learn how to post roll How to Post Roll (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=50).

Then join your quit group Pre HOF May 2014 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=9408), this will be the month at which you will hit your HOF or 100 days of quit, as long as you have the balls to quit.

Next read the HOM speeches and stories here, learn from the veterans. Look in the site for all kind of information like Spousal Support (http://www.killthecan.org/community/spousal-support/) or What to Expect (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/what-to-expect-when-you-quit-dipping/)

Find an alternative to dip Smokeless Alternatives (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/smokeless-alternatives/). Find other alternatives (candies, seeds, peanuts, beef jerky...). Also drink lots of water. Bump your intake so you have to stop at every urinal in order to not piss your pants.

Finally, get to know people, exchange phone numbers, make friends and quit.

P.S. All of the underlined words above are links to locations on this site.

Sincerely,
Pinched

What he said....^^^^^.....trust me, this is about you. You will not make it long-term if you are not doing this because you want to be free of your own addiction. KTC can support you in your efforts and the members here have all been through what you are doing for yourself! Check out the Welcome Center (top left) read up and promise yourself you have quit every day. One day at a time (ODAAT)! I quit with you, for me!

Okay, good. You are quit. Now you have 3 days or so to get the nicotine out of your body. You are now entering what we call "the big suck." Everything is going to really suck for the next few days. Follow the advice you will see across this site:  Post Roll every morning in the May '14 group. Drink lots of water, get lots of exercise, keep busy, load up on seeds, bubble gum, jolly ranchers, fake chew. Whatever. Just no nic!!!

Post messages on your Intro and talk to others. Read everything you can on this site. We have all been through what you are about to. Get digits from folks on this site and text or call. Use those digitis, they are your lifeline.

Again, post roll every morning. It is the price of admission to this club, and is a sacred responsiblity. PM me if you have any questions.

Now go get your quit on!

You're almost through the first day, which is your first yardstick after posting roll. Immerse yourself in the KTC community, read others' intro postings from their first few days, go for a walk, do some push-ups, go to bed early, whatever -- just establish that first day that you don't need the poison, and you'll have a frame of reference for the next day. Think how satisfying it will be knowing that you kept your word when you post roll tomorrow morning with "day 2". You can do this, and reach out to anyone in the May Group to help work through any roadblocks. You're not alone.

The first 3 days separates the pretenders from the real quitters. Wrap your head around this. If you've been 1 day without the poison then you can damn sure make it another. Don't need it, never did! 1000's have come before you, your no different, post roll and keep your word. Need a number let me know.

Wish I would have made the decision to quit while I was in school. Instead, I continued to dip for another 15 years after that.

You're making a great decision. Quit on.

Shoot me a PM if you need anything.

It's just hard to be professional in the field I am in, and dip. I want to just man up, and stop. I'm coming up on 48 hours, and doing ok. Sometimes I don't want it at all. Sometimes it is all I can think about.

You know what's great about 48. It means you can make 49. One hour at a time. You got this.

Welcome to the suck -- the red carpet has been rolled out for you. Everything you're going through means your body/mind is transitioning -- successfully -- to a life without nicotine. As long as a few off-days at work don't result in your head on a platter, the initial sacrifice in composure will be worth your long-term health, clarity of mind, and happiness. It gets better, hang tough.

Enjoy it bro, it sucks now but will get way better. Do what ever you can, whether it's fake snuff, sunflower seeds, candy, etc. just don't put the lip terd back in. Make this your damn default browser on your computer and just read it when a crave hits. You got it.

I quit with you

LSU...
Way to man up. Hang in there buddy. 2 days into your quit means you have accomplished a lot. Hour by hour, minute by minute, keep grinding it out. Also, keep in mind that craves physically only last 3 minutes or less. So don't give the nic bitch satisfaction of caving into a lousy 3 minute crave. You are more man that that. And look around. There are a ton of guys (and gals) here who are freshly through exactly what you're going through now. They've got your back. Quit on bro!

Day 3. Still going strong. I can't sleep. That is probably the worst part of doing this. The cravings are less frequent, and I can find myself arguing whether I should or not. I have my boys backing me up, so I won't let you or myself down.

I ordered fake snus from Smokey Mountain. I don't know if this was a good or bad decision. I'll let you know when it gets here. I have been chewing lots of gum, and eating jolly ranchers.

3 Days Quit, a lifetime to go.

By now LSUTiger you realize that you're an addict of nicotine.
You can "be quit" ODAAT if you choose to be.

As you've heard before sleep is entirely overrated. The new you don't need sleep right now. It needs to replace ignorance with facts. It needs repaired from all the damage you've done for year upon year using a poison that had no place.

This is one way to look at it anyhow. I had trouble sleeping for a while and then i went through a period of sleeping to much. Your brain thanks you. It appreciates the fact you are finally giving it the oxygen it needs and wants.

Your off to a great start. The new you thanks you. Settle in, keep you're head pointed forward. Nothing back there but a smelly, rotten, good for nothing can of poison. We were idiots for to long. NO MORE! Quit with you today.

Hey LSU - the smokey mountain helps with the oral fixation....it took my crave from a 10 to a 3....so that really helped to push through those more difficult days. Not everyone likes it or uses it. Some do for a week, others much longer. I keep a can in my car because driving is a huge trigger for me. Either way, as long as its not the poison, do what you have to do stay quit. See you in chat!

Nothing in 2 days LSU. What's up, you still hanging in there? Your young, maybe you don't really need this site. You haven't used but a few years, maybe you don't really need the accountability this site offers. You quit for a couple days, maybe you don't need the site at all. Beware of addicted thinking!!!

Here's a fact for you. I've read that 3% under 25 quit and never return to the poison. I don't really like statistics sometimes, but they are what they are. I've seen a lot of younger people log on, stay a week and are gone. I wouldn't doubt that the 3% are the ones that stick around right here. You got a lot going for you, marriage and what ever other big things you got going. The world belongs to you!

If I may, I would like to give you just a little advice. Stay here and give this site the first 100 days of your quit. Make HOF and then you can contemplate not using the site any more. Then you will be well informed and understand your addiction more. You will have a lot of the tools necessary to make better decisions with this addiction. Be advised, marriage is not a cure!

Make this quit the most important thing in your life and all other aspects of your life will benefit. I was hoping you would at least give this site the first 100 days of your quit. Just enough to get you started. Oh well, just statistics. What do they know? When I was your age I wouldn't have listened. Sad, but true. 1 is to many and 1000 will never be enough.

Just enough to get you started. Oh well, just statistics. What do they know? When I was your age I wouldn't have listened. Sad, but true. 1 is to many and 1000 will never be enough.
Glad to see your roll post.

Hey LSU... Learn to post roll on your cell phone. It is ez and that way you are not confined to a computer and require wi-fi to post roll.

It is as simple as hit quote button, Cut all from lower box, paste into upper box, and post roll.

With technology these days and the many means to post roll -- there is really zero excuse for missing a roll post. Being young I am sure you are tech savvy!

Hey guys! Sorry I've been letting you down. I'm still nicotine free. I live in Statesboro, GA, aka the boonies. I hardly have cell service, so if I don't have internet I'm screwed.

Anyway, thanks for checking up with me. I'm still going hard. No nic and the cravings are getting much rarer. I will do smokey mountain if I have too but I prefer life savers ha!

Hope the quit is strong with you!

Random fact of the day.

My HOF date is May 13. I am proposing on May 15.

It's exciting to know that the when one door closes, another opens.

NO DIP FOR ME.

That is great date association, just remember that when you hit the HOF the door on addiction is not closed. You are doing great and we will all support you all the way through. You will have the blessing that most of us did not (clean teeth in wedding photos).

Keep up the quit and kick ass daily.

Sup ladies,

Still kicking that nic bitch. I'm not invincible but I am feeling pretty good. Just in the grind of school and work.

So the proposal is all planned out and good to go on May 15. I invited her friends and parents to "be there". They won't be around for the talking part but they will see me get on one knee and all that jazz.

Keep the quit going! I quit with you.

I know luck has no place in KTC but when it comes to proposing to a woman I think it does. Best of luck, Brad!

That's awesome man. I proposed on 4/19/13 and i'm getting married on 4/26 of this year. I don't know how the hell you can have a ring in your pocket and still be around her. I had the ring for 5 days before I proposed and it was burning a hole in my pocket, I was to the point of wanting to propose in the kitchen I was so nervous and ready. It is a great experience and a really fun time with her and the people you are close to, but then the wedding planning begins and well you have opinions on colors of napkins and all of the sudden the fun is over. So there is that...

Go vols.

She is motivation and she can provide accountability. This quit, however, is for you and is all about you. When it comes to the quit, you are number 1. Always. I have been married over 11 years to my prize and have 2 lovely children. When it comes to the quit, they are merely motivation and added accountability. Nothing more, as crass as that may sound.

Now, with that being said, congrats homie. Clearly you're marrying up.

OK, now for the KTC version: where are the nekkid pics, of her only.. :)
Haha, she is too good for me, that's why I want to keep her around. As I stated in my intro, she was my motivation to quit. Why waste anytime that I could spend with her?

I'll leave the nudes for your imagination haha.
Congrats!!! Just post roll every damn day, stay involved with the site, and take it one day at a time!!! Your marriage will be oh so much better without the nic bitch sharing a bed with you two!
Nice Tiger, that cutie deserves you clean and free! You are in the right place. Proud to be quit with you.

Great pictures. Congratulations on a lot of great decisions/choices.
nice work man, keep it up she is definitely worth the war against addiction
Having a good woman by your side who is supportive in your quit is an awesome help. I'm glad that I've had mine to keep my accountable and encourage me along the way these past 12 days. Looks like you've got a good one, too. Like others have said, just remember that this quit is for you (it's a bonus that she'll get to keep you around longer), but it has to be for you before anything/anyone else.

Hey guys!

I am sorry I am sucking it up with posting role. I am completely busy with life right now, and if I don't post it as soon as I get to my office in the morning, I sometimes forget. No excuses.

But neverless, I am still quit with you guys. It's a lifetime war, not a one time battle. I am in charge, and I am winning.

Thanks for the support.

Dude... this needs to change.

You HAVE to take this more serious and MAKE it a priority. I have a ridiculously busy life yet I find time to spend on here each day. What you just typed is the beginning of every cave thread I've ever seen.

Quitting = Life

What will you do to make sure you have one?

Brad,
I believe that your hope was to ask the love of your life to marry you in May. That pretty little girl deserves your commitment, until then your quit deserves your full commitment too.

Let's do this shit bud.

I spent a lot of time using nic and planning to use nic. Do I have a dip? Enough? Were is my can? Do I have time to stop by the store. On and on. It takes me less than a minute to post. Time well spent.

What pisses me off is all the people that invested time in to your damn quit. You get to 100 days and you don't have the damn time to invest in your quit much less some newbie. Damn shame.

Thanks to everyone that helps a newbie. You guys rock!

LSU,
While you're so busy at work and sometimes forget posting roll, the nic bitch is moving in next door. And she's just waiting for the chance to fuck your brains out and make you cave. If you aren't thinking about posting roll, then the nic bitch is invading your subconscious and planting seeds for your cave. You need to drive her the hell out by getting with the program. Don't say "I'm working on it." Say "I will fucking do it no matter what." Change your tone man. I give a shit about your quit.

Unlike fight club, we have two rules instead of 1. The first rule to KTC is to post roll every damn day. The second rule to KTC is to not use any form of nicotine. The third rule is see rules 1 and 2. (I forgot about the third rule)

Clearly, and rightfully so, nobody here cares about how busy you are. Guaranteed there are people as busy or busier than you who are posting roll and are fully engaged with their quit. Get with the program bud; I echo Zillah's sentiments about your quit.

Yes, fight club...

Scodaddy's 8 rules for KTC.

The 1st rule of KTC is: I do not use nicotine

The 2nd rule of KTC is: I DO NOT USE NICOTINE.

The 3rd rule of KTC is: I post roll everyday.

4th rule: I am an addict. Lifelong.

5th rule: One day at a time fella.

6th rule: This quit is for me.

7th rule: I build accountability with my Brothers and I have an emergency plan.

The 8th and final rule: I am not unique and special butterfly. Brothers have been here before me. Read. Learn. Serve others.

KTC Family,

I lost my brother on Thursday June 5th, and I haven't really had any time to be on or near a computer. I have spoken to my KTC mentor Slug. The funeral is this Friday. I just got back to Statesboro late last night to take care of some work obligations, and I am flying back to New Orleans Wednesday morning.

I love you guys, and please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers.

To May, sorry for being absent.
