Title: D plus 47 hours
Post by: soxfnnlansing on September 05, 2014, 12:20:00 AM
I woke up Tuesday morning with some sort of flu/cold. Maybe it was from one too many beers the night before since it was a long holiday weekend, but I went to work and endured a long day. As in the past, I take these opportunities to quit chewing. I made it through Tuesday night/Wednesday morning no problem. Yesterday I decided to commit to the quit. Somehow I wound up on this site (and many others). I never really thought of looking at it the way many of you look at it, but I'm all excited that I quit. I never looked at being an addict, but that is the truth.

Many shameful nights being a good husband/father and I have this dark side of my life to conceal. After church fellowship I have good people trying to have a conversation with me and I can think about is heading to the car for some wintergreen grizzly. I've 'stopped' before. About 10 years ago I stopped for about 8 months. What happened was I decided to pick up a can and get that big buzzed feeling like it was the first time all over again. What a let down that was. There is no instant gratification once you put in a load. It's a slow and creeping poisonous like feeling that overcomes your blood stream. A bad head rush and then your brain keeps reminding you about how it used to be. For some reason I got back into it, but that was before. I am committed to being a forever quitter here and embracing what you have built.

I'm sure that tomorrow will be tough since I have no nicotine in my body as of right now. From what I've read my brain is not knowing what to do right now. I started when I was about 16 and I'm almost 47 now. I have only told a friend from work. I am not going to tell anyone else (unless they ask me or point out an observation). I don't know if that is the correct approach or not, but that is my plan for now.

Welcome, you've done powerfully good thing for you AND your family. I started when I was 21, tried to quit the filthy habit about a thousand times, and failed to stay quit each time. This was a good indication that I needed more than my own will power for this (and many other things in life).

I found KTC in December 2013 and managed to stay with it (I'm now 54). It is truly fantastic to wake in the mornings and leisurely contemplate how much I love my family (and how thankful I am for my warm bed) instead of rushing to the den to stuff a wad in while searching for something to spit in.

The fellowship here is unconventional at times but is sincere and powerful. Read and listen and no matter what you think of it, post roll every single day!

Sox, 47 hours is a big deal, but realizing that this "dip habit" is actually an addiction is even bigger. It pisses me off to think about all of the time that is robbed from our life experience because of a cheap buzz. Keep that door closed and look forward to staying quit another day.

For some of us the mental/psychological withdrawal symptoms carry on much longer after the last of the nicotine is worked from our system. That is where the real power of this site is evident. So go ahead and post roll with December, stick around, and stay quit for another day.

Here's the bottom line here. We quit for one day, and one day only, but we bring everything we have to our quits on that day. The next day you quit again for one day. You post roll (you'll be in Dec pre HOF group...instructions to do this are below) and when you do you are promising to all of us that you will not dip for one day, and everyone who posts roll is making the same promise to you. We take that promise serious here....this site is about breaking the chain of your addiction and being done with nicotine. but we do it one day at a time. It will suck but it will be worth it. To make it work you have to give 100%. Can you do it? If so, post roll.

1. Login, go to your quit page, think about what you are going to post.
2. Find the most recent post
3. hit F5 or refresh the page
4. Press "quote" on the roll
5. Click in the box that has all of the Roll posts (the lower box), hit CTRL-A to select all and Press CTRL-X to CUT, not copy-if you copy, then you'll double post roll.
6. Click to the reply window and press CTRL+V to paste it in. Then write in your name, day and your promise
7. Press submit-done

I'm at 81 hours now! I chose not to count 24 hours for Tuesday since I was under the weather, but I want full credit now. I will figure out how to do that roll call later.

Yeah, me too, who needs to make a promise to guys and gals to whom I am asking their support. And subtract a day or 2 off of my count as well because this one time at band camp I stuck a flute in my ear. Care to bend anymore of the KTC rules while you are still new? Because I see so much quit in your future Sparky.........

Dude, get serious about your quit. It's kind of like this: if you don't, nicotine could kill you, but she would probably screw with you for at least a couple years first, disfiguring you, torturing you and your family, and generally making what is left of your dwindling life a living hell on earth. We all know it sucks, and it ain't fun to quit. Do you have the balls to promise your fellow quitters that you won't use nicotine today? POST ROLL OR MOVE ON DUDE, 'cause that's how we do it here!

You were my first KTC contact 97 days ago and you are a vet. Funny how this was your last post on KTC. Wonder what ever happened to you?

Congratulations on the first huge milestone! Thanks for being one of the the leaders on this site and paying it forward and backward! One day at a time, you are earning back the freedom that grizzly took from you! The road ahead wil still have some bumps, but keep doing what you are doing and you'll push past those little obstacles with no problem.

Welcome to the Hall of Fame! Quit with you today!

Great job man, great use of the forum and the chatroom for really solidifying your quit and pouring yourself into so much accountability with many a quitter here. You truly get it, you understand what KTC is about and you give back as well.

Man your hof speech struck a chord. One of my closest contacts on this site talked about feeling 10' tall on HOF day... I promise you, sir, that the freedom and pride thatvyoubfeel today is a tip of the iceberg. Are there bumps ahead? Yes. But you know the plan, and you've followed the map... You are really really going to like the new you.

Thanks for sharing, and for your honesty.
