Hi, I quit on 9/15, finally posted roll call yesterday and am now posting my introduction.
I am a 59 year old former dipper. I started smoking in 6th grade, switched from smoking to copenhagen snuff in college so I could play rugby and run up and down the field without my chest exploding. I switched to Cherry Skoal around 16 years ago when reading that Cherry had the least nicotine of all other snuff at that time. I think it has 7mg of nicotine while copenhagen has 21 mg of nicotine. This is off the top of my head.
I quit once before. I went to a health clinic to quit. Went through meditation. Quit for 9 months and my mom got very sick. Visited with my family and my brother convinced me that I would never be able to break the habit. I caved.
I have been in systems development for 30 plus years. Started in the mainframe world up to web development. Joined a startup as their head IT guy and grew them until they were huge. Long story short, politics killed me and my gig ended last Dec. I have been in a funk ever since. I hired some new developers for new stuff I am doing on my own. I kept doing more and more snuff and was getting quite crazy. Snuff was hindering me and not helping.
I looked at this site in 2013. Looked at it again in September of this year. Somehow got an email from Chewie that resonated with me. I decided to quit and amazingly have not done any snuff since that day, September 15. Many thanks to Chewie and this site for helping me.
I have to tell you that despite being a former VP, I seem to be the slowest person here as it seems to take me 2 hours to post roll call.
I should have been posting for a while but it just took time to warm to this.
Thank you to whomever created this site and to all of you who support it.

Congrats on the Quit man and great job posting roll.
Keep making that promise and keep it.
PM me if you ever need anything.
I am proud to quit with you today!!!!!!

Welcome! 56 year old former mainframer here, posting roll will get easier. Its those new fangled doodads with touch interfaces that screw us up. As you know one day at a time. Posting roll every day does help.
I quit with you today.

Thank you lwildma2. I appreciate your support. Let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you with you.

This place amazes me on a daily basis. People come in that have dipped for little to no time, then people like yourself dundippin that's been controlled by the monster for a very long time. I don't care if you dipped for 1 year or 40, we are all the same. Having to battle a nicotine addiction. I've seen some people dip 1-2 cans a day, others a can would last them days at a time. Neither could kick the habit until now like we do, one day at a time.
Congrats to you dundippin on making the first step. If I can be of assistance please let me know. I quit with you today.

Nomore1959,
Another mainframer! Now we are rocking! I started with EDS. That stands for two things:
Electronic Data Systems and Every Day Sucks!
Thanks for your support

My mom was with EDS, after they acquired MacAuto where she worked. I finally got rid of the last Caddy from the GM discount days a couple weeks ago.
PM if you want to share bs or just need to do some quit rage.
-
I should have posted that I have been doing one can plus a day for as long as I remember. For some reason I do not even think about the dip anymore. I just wish I could get through this Fog. Taking the advice of others and drinking plenty of OJ, water and cranberry juice.
Thanks for your support.

I'm a wonderful bahahahahaha IT Tech dundippin.
-
Eyehatecope,
Glad to be on with other IT folks.
I love your name, I hate cope myself and skoal and the rest of it.
I quit with you today.

Welcome again!! Glad you took my advice and did an intro. The December group has been together for quite some time now but we can always use another Bad Ass Quitter! Doing an intro will allow them to get to know you. PM me if you need anything. Good job posting roll today. I am proud to quit with you today

Congrats done. Nice job! Make sure you get yourself a new toothbrush bro. If you were anything like me the late nite ninja dipping sessions were always followed by a toothbrush session.
Took me a while to wonder if there was still a bunch of nic left on the brush that I was putting in my mouth a few times a day!
As stranger said, we don't want to have to start back at day 1 ?
Good luck bro. Proud to be quit with you today

Quitting dip sucks! By yourself damn near double sucks! Welcome aboard, here your never alone. Glad to have you here. I dipped 38 year's and 298 days later of freedom I've never been happier or felt better! Damn proud to be quit with you! Quit on!

Thank you lwildma2. I appreciate your support. Let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you with you.
The biggest thing you can do to assist my quit is to make sure you post roll EDD. We have lost a couple of guys in the last week and it hurts.
Lean on us and we will lean on you.
WE WILL ALL make it to the next day with the support of the brotherhood.
I am not in the IT dept. I am the guy screaming on the phone because the IT guys won't let me do what I want.

I remember when I started quitting that I had zero support from people in real life including my wife. Why? Because I lied to all of them for 17 years about quitting. The only way quitting works is if you are doing it for yourself. That's why support here is so valuable, because the only folks that know what you are going through are your fellow addicts.

What he said.....^^^^^^^^
Age and other people don't have any thing to do with it.
You can do this... Dont think about tomorrow. Let tomorrow worry about itself.
You just stay focused on your promise you made today.
Remember......Your finished!
Let that old you die.
Im finished with the new you today.

I too am an old IT guy. 50 year old Network engineer who now works as a teachers aid at a school because he really didn't like the corporate IT world. Wish I could change my username to "LoveMyLifeNow". Keep on quitting. POST ROLL DAILY!!!!!

Here is a note to myself that the 120s and the 140s were terrible. I am at 313 and I still get days when my gums seem to be craving the dip. It happens under stress and when I am hungry.
Successful quitting means paying attention to common sense things like getting plenty of exercise, eating regular meals, getting plenty of sleep, etc.
My craves mainly happen when I have skipped a meal. So the main trick is to take care of yourself and make sure you eat.

I am one day away from 900. Yay - not.
One thing I have learned to hate are the milestones.
For some reason, the days before and after a milestone are hard.
I feel the nagging at my gums. The question in my mind - do you remember.
Luckily for me, I am so practiced at turning my attention away from those thoughts that it bothers me little.
But it does bother me.
Remember to always keep your guard up.
I quit again today. Day 899.
