Today is my first day not dipping. I skipped my usual morning dip routine and even flushed both cans of my red seal down the toilette yesterday. I still have no idea how to use this site, but I'll learn.

Drummer you got a little lost in the inner workings of KTC, you still with us buddy? First things first hit the welcome center, pinkish thing right under the KTC banner. Read up on how to post roll, then go and do it. It's our daily promise to not use in any form.
If your day two, your in pain right now, reach out and were here. Get involved and read up.

Get rid of all your spitters, be commit to this. Next go buy some jerky chew, sunflower seeds, gum, toothpicks. After that be ready for some serous cravings. Fight em off because it gets easier.

Nice catch, WP!! Good looking out.
Welcome, drummerdude. Glad to see you here saving your life. Focus on your quit..... one day at a time. Understanding this site takes a while. Until you get it, folks like Wastepanel have got your back. For right now, you need to do these things:
1. Post roll in you HOF group. It's not just a name on a list, it's a promise not to ingest nicotine for 24 hours.
2. Keep your word. This is of utmost importance.
3. Get some contact numbers of quitters here. Send a PM and any body will give you their digits. Get acquainted. Text/call some folks.
4. Develop a plan. You MUST know what to do when the rough spots hit you.
5. Read, read, read on this site. The more you read, the more you'll understand how dedicated we are to helping each other quit.
6. Repeat.
I'm dropping you a PM just to check in. Reach out if you need anything.
-
You got this! Post roll and commit for the day drummerdude! One day at a time that's all s asked here! You can do it! Beat that nicotine like an 808!

I've already been quit two days and from reading the information on KTC's website, I 'm in "the fog" right now. I'm actually writing this in school because I can't focus on anything. I looked at the site for about two weeks before I finally decided to quit. I've dipped ever since I was in the sixth grade and I'm a junior in high school now, so that's about 5-6 years of dipping right there. I originally dipped grizzly for about 85% of that time and I started to notice that it hurt to put a dip in about a month ago. Now, I don't have cancer or anything like that I don't think but it just hurt. I thought the probably was that I dipped grizz all the time so I switched to what my dad does, which is red seal. That didn't really help so I decided it was time to quit. For many reasons.. I wanted to be able to have clean white teeth, instead of yellowing ones. I DIDN'T WANNA DIE. I wanted to be able to kiss my girlfriend anytime I wanted to without her being disgusted by the dip I had just spit out. I didn't want whether I had dip or not to decide my mood. But I'm quitting for me, and my family and girlfriend are being very supportive of the choice I've mad. But shit, I'm just ready to not want nicotine anymore, you know? I'll be joining the pre august class to quit, and I've found already that this site is very helpful. Just shoot me a message on here if you want to know anymore. Kudos.
-
Right on MrD, welcome to KTC and august 13 quit group. Pm me for digits / help bud.
I quit with you.
-
Hey man, good for you! I'm on Day 2 quit as well and welcome to KTC. Make sure you check out the welcome center so you can post roll call with your August quit mates. Let me tell you if you can stick to the quit at your age you'll save your self years of money, frustration...yadda yadda. Good for you for joining, shoot me a PM if you need anything.

The fog sucks, and you may have a few more days of it. Drink some water, when a crave hits, hit the deck and knock out some push-ups or run or whatever.I am telling you, you want this, and if you fail forever you will regret not doing it now.
Get in and get accountable, read, exchange numbers with your group, get a lifelines! Welcome and I quit with you, today

Would it not be recommended to chew gum? Not the nicotine gum, but just trident or something. Iv'e found it helps a lot. And how do you set a profile picture on here? Mine says I don't have permission or something.

-
A lot of guys use some regular gum/candy I have noticed. I usually just get more of an urge when I have something like that in my mouth, but if it works for you it works for you.
And try to change avatar to customize your profile picture.

As long as your nic free, do whatever you need to do to get through it. Gum, seeds, a lot like atomic fireballs. Fake chew. Just dont put any nicotine in your body.

Much appreciated guys. The gum really helps for me, but I'll chew it the whole day and it will give me a headache. But, it's better than killing myself with dip

Yes, yes it is better. You've got great advice here... Don't ignore it. Especially the part about getting to know your quit brothers in August. Post roll, reach out and get to know people. Build yourself so much accountability that you have no options other than succeeding... That's how it works. Glad you're here man!! Stoked you're quit!

Welcome to the site!
It will totally suck the next several days.. Stay close to the site.. Get numbers of folks in your group. Post roll as a promise to stay quit for "Today" as early in the morning as possible..
And then keep your word..
Take a look at my HOF speech, there is stuff in there that will help you..
Romandog - Day 766
Quit with you....
-
Junior in high school? Are you 18?
-
Hey drummer. Day two. Sucks true but you got this keep posting roll and don't you dare cave on your word (promise) to us. You stay strong, this shit gets better, your in the worst of it. Stay busy go beat on your drums. I quit with you.

No, I'm not 18. It's just almost a "tradition" in my area to dip, even if your under 18. Even some of the convenience stores will sell dip and tobacco products to underage people. I'll be turning 17 in july. I got started dipping early, but it's not to late to quit early too :D

The world is addicted to everything, if it's not dip, it's booze, or weed, or speed, or something. Tradition doesn't make it a rule you have to follow.
I think a lot of us begin because tradition, there is no rule we have use it "because of tradition."
If at 18 can keep this and the other monkeys off the back you will have an amazing life.

ok...17? Really? You gotta get a handle on this dude...Don't know if you read the Sean Marsee story if you haven't already. And unless you grew up in the inner city, almost every school has a "tradition" of dipping. I was 6'5" in 7th grade so i was able to buy it all back then.
Anyways, i would venture to say that almost everyone on here was about your age or younger when the started and wishes they had the maturity to put it down back then. The addiction is hard to battle but adding a layer of piss and vinegar that most teenage boys have and it makes it insanely difficult. You have shown some maturity by coming on this site and posting...but you are going to have to grow up quickly to to handle this on a day to day basis.

Not to be a douche, but isn't there an age requirement to be on the board?

Same here.... 6'-4", started getting gray hair in high school. I could buy whatever I wanted whereever I wanted. Fail. I was a dumbass.
Drummer..... I'm from the south, so I feel your pain. Man, it was the thing to do. Bullshit. I fell victim to peer pressure and a stereotypical addiction. Read my HOF speech. It's all in there, and I'll bet you'll see some similarities. I still harbor some anger about my addiction, but I focus it to keep me quit. I now, my HOF speech talks about "habit". I was still an idiot when I wrote that. I've wised up since then.

HOLY FUCK- HOLY FUCK- HOLY FUCK!
I wish to God I could go back and be as smart as this kid! Bro! Stay quit! There is not a person here who doesn't wish we had quit when we were 16. You have life by the balls. You can do anything without chew! God I envy you and your age. It is hard to quit no matter how old and how many years you have chewed, but I pray you stay quit. You will make this site worth it all.... Helping a person so young quit! That would be the greatest.
P.S. don't mean to talk like your a kid... I just think it would be amazing to see someone stand up to the NIC BITCH at such a young age! We got your back!

Drummerboy,
I would have liked to have this tool available at your age however like JayD said I doubt it would have helped. I hope you are learning from what you are reading here and taking in all the advice. I purposesly have stayed away from posting on your thread due to your age but I recently found out that my son (step son I hate the term) was caught with dip by his mother. I have been working on taking the teachings I have learned from here and applying it to him. I have him post roll so to speak with me. Well we actually post it to eachother. My goal is that he will get a handle on it early. I want him and you to ditch the dip and clean up enjoy your life free of being a slave to an addiction.

I will ask the same question on this thread as i did on another youngster trying to quit...why would we turn away someone that is under 18 that is trying to quit? I would venture to say that 97% of the members on this site started when they were under 18...hell probably under 16. It's not like we are promoting anything that is illegal here.
-
Hey man, I'm trying to quit. I'm pretty sure the administrators wouldn't care if I was underage. And like the guy below me said, this site isn't promoting dipping. It's promoting against it.

I read the board guidelines..... And I gotta say the under 18 clause is crap. Are we telling this kid that he needs to battle his addiction without any support for another year? What If he gets cancer in that year? I don't want that on my conscience! Most of us started under 18, and we weren't smart enough to ask for help! I wanna see this kid succeed. Lets not get caught up in red tape. Lets support of fellow brothers!

Here is a link to the North Carolina quitline to help with quitting. I don't think we can selectively apply when the rules fit or do not. It's pretty clearly laid out. 18 or over. I want him to be quit too and here is the link for help.

I will post the same advice as i did for our other young member who will probably get kicked off for not being old enough to quit on this site...
If your parents don't know, you need to tell them and tell them that you are quitting and you will need their help. If your dad/mom smokes or dips try to get them involved as well. If you have a girlfriend that doesn't smoke or dip tell her that you are quitting and tell her every day that you didn't chew. I tell my wife every night whether or not she asks or not that i didn't chew that day.
If you have a good relationship with a school counselor/teacher/coach janitor whoever, tell them. Go to the principal or whoever and organize a group of quitters during your school's activity period. Some schools have this every day some just once a week but i guarantee you'd get kids to join with you.
Anyhow, i will state for the record that it's bullshit that you have to leave, but i think if you follow the advice that i and others have laid out for you, you can have a successful quit!

The rules are what the rules are.
I've been saying it for a while as well: there is a void in this area of quitters. Perhaps we could all work together and create a program to assist younger quitters. But as of right now, the Ktc is not for those under 18.
-
As I am a noob, i know my weight doesn't get very far but here is my 2 cents...I think that this a great site...
I think the point of this site is to help get people to quit chewing that want the help and the encouragement to do so. If that person is under 18 then there needs to be some sort of secondary course of action they can take while using KTC.
Language is going to be a part of this site and i understand it...i have just as bad of a mouth on me as anyone, but i also not only believe but i know for a fact as all of you do too...that 14-18 year olds probably can hang with us older guys when it comes to the language. So language, no a problem for those looking to quit.
If the admin can make the rule that you have to be 18, they can change that rule as well. The link that i read specifically mentioned sexually explicit material. Well i would rather have someone change their "suggestive" avatars in order for us to save a few younger lives. I mean we have the Sean Marsee story and almost every member on this site has outlived Sean Marsee. The story is relevant to us but it is VERY relevant to those that start this awful mess before they are 18.
As a disclaimer, i have no problem with One Impressive's avatar (it makes me chuckle) or kk's avatar (makes me feel like when we used to climb the rope in gym class), but i would imagine both would happily change their avatars in order to save a life of a fellow quitter that happens to be under 18.
And lastly, if the admin has to worry about creepy old dudes soliciting sex from a minor on this site, well then boys and girls we have some bigger fish to fry.
Just my 2 cents...i have much respect for the administration and the moderators of this site but i do think this could be changed.
