Title: Hello
Post by: GR8WHITEBUFFALO on May 15, 2012, 09:01:00 AM
I have been cutting back on my chews for the last six months or so to only 1 big dip at night before bed. 8 days ago, I decided to skip the gas station and quit for good. I am trying to take control back from my 3 headed monster that rules my world. (food, alcohol and chew). Joined WW 1.5 years ago and dropped 80 lbs, started running and working out, now moving on to battle the nicotine addiction. The alcohol problem has been reduced to 2 days a week in relative moderation.

I started chewing in college with the leaf tobbaco pouches then moved to skoal cans (Cherry) for the last 10 years lately its been the skoal xtra rich and bold, 2 tins / every 4 days.

Day 1 after quitting chew, I had a huge 24 hour headache and still haven't managed to sleep more than 2 hours at night without waking up. Glad I found this site to join, read and learn.

Thank you for your help.

Gr8. You have what it takes. Quitting is a simple procedure:
stay 100% nic free
post roll daily and early
Read everything you can
Gather #'s and quit strength from fellow quitters
Enjoy the suck of quit
(And of course) QLF

Congrats on the weight and booze fronts, you sound like a winner. The insomnia thing sucks, it wears you down ofter awhile. I'm at this thing over eighty days now and while it's getting better I've yet to sleep through a whole night. I've found that melatonin and valerian (smells horrible) help. Both are herbal, cheap and over the counter at any drugstore. I'm sure that most doctors would be happy to write a scrip for some heavy duty sleep aid but, like you, I'm looking to get rid of addictions not pick up new ones.

Out-fucking-standing!!! You must be a genius. I couldn't spell my own name on Day 8...much less figure out how to post roll. And look at you...

Read all you can. Embrace the suck. Stay strong and stay quit, brother.

I had my first dream about chew last night. I was walking towards a church all dressed up and I had a dip in my mouth. I was thinking, "When did I put this chew in?" It tasted really good but everytime I spit, I hit my nice clothes and shoes but I just kept spitting and spitting. In the end I was covered with dark spit and couldn't go into the wedding. Trippy.

They come and go Buffalo. It might be another week or two til you have second. Or you could have one for 3 nights in a row. Just your brain rewiring and retooling. When it has had a foreign chemical rummaging through it for years and years, we can't begin to imagine the amount of work it takes to put the right folders back into the right drawer.

I put my underwear on backwards for a week.

It was nice having a farthole, but my junk felt trapped without its window.

I went golfing last night to sub in for a league guy. We golfed against two young guys and one of the was dipping. I wanted to tell him about my 20 year addiction to nicotine and how hard it is for me to finally quit. I didn't. I wanted to tell him to toss that shit in the lake before he wastes his money, white teeth and health on such a terrible habit. I didn't.

My golfing buddy asked me if I wanted a cigar because he was smoking. I told him no because I have quit chewing and all tobacco for the last 31 days. He said "Good for you, that's a disgusting habit." Then continued to smoke for the next 9 holes. I thought you are a slave to the nic bitch too but didn't say anything.

My golfing buddy and I are old enough to know better but I really feel for the younger kids who have no fucking clue what they are messing with, I should have tried to say something and next time I will. I won't stand on a soap box but maybe plant a thought that may grow over time in someone's head that in the end its just not worth the price.

I have had similar experiences. I really don't know if there is a textbook on how to sell quitting tobacco. I believe addicts have to come to terms on their own. Everyone has a day where they are done and want to quit. Until then, you just plant seeds of hope for them.

Good for you to be quit. That was a seed. Just because he continued to smoke, you planted the seed. I think the example communicates better than words anyway. You worry about your quit and keep it protected and solid.

People will watch, take notice and some will start asking you how you were able to quit.

Good post and good experience. Thanks for sharing.

Way to quit and keep your quit GR8WHITEBUFFALO.
Did the youngin' get any spit on yer ball? golf ball? LOL Had to throw that in...

Seriously, I can laugh now, cause I remember walking to a wedding reception on a windy day with my wife, yeah, you know, I spit and it landed on her leg. No wonder she looks at me and attacks me today like I'm a new man.
Nasty habit, how can people do that shit??? LOL.
I am waiting for the days when I literally hate everything tobacco like some of the veterans here.
I'm gettin' that this quittin' is not an event, but a process. Gotta go reprocess my egg noodles of a brain.
Cheers!

I went to visit my sister yesterday. She is a chain smoker and her apartment smells like an ash tray. Only stayed a couple of hours but man, my teeth and gums were itching like crazy when I left. I handled the crave no problem but it goes to show me that even after 60 some days, nothing has changed. I am still and always will be an addict to the nic bitch.

Opened up a bunch of boxes of old family photographs given to me from my sister last night. My father, mother and sister all were chain smokers. The pictures reek of nicotine, I swear I can still smell it on my hands even after showering. At least half of them are of people who were smoking at the time of the photo. Nicotine and alcohol addiction runs in my family. My sister is the only one still alive except for me. Mother died of emphesema and COPD. Dad died of cancer. I grew up riding in the back seat of a smoke filled car most of the time. My eyes are starting to really see just how long I have been exposed to the nic bitch and how great it is to be free. Day 73 for me and I feel great !!!

I shared my HOF speech with my wife last night. I felt more than a little nervous standing there as she read it. Funny how I can open up more when I write something down compared to verbally expressing myself. She understands the addiction and has been quit for many years from cigerettes but still has cravings til this day just like me.

Day 138.

Its Friday and that's about as good of a spin I can put on things for today.

Last night my son played a hell of a football game for the first half, 10 tackles at LB and 2 catches at TE and 1 sack. Then proceeded to roll his ankle in the 3rd quarter and is now on crutches. Probably just a high ankle sprain, we will know more later today.

I also found a small nodule on my lower gum that I have been keeping an eye on for a couple of weeks. It is the size of a BB. Showed it to a Pathologist, who is going to do a FNA biopsy on it later today to see what is up. I am not going to tell the wife about it until I know how serious it is or not. Hopefully I am just being a paranoid son of a bitch. It comes with the job description. Screening for cancer all day long makes you really dwell on it. Too bad I was such a dumbass chewer for all those years.

Dumb.

Hope your son heals up and is ready to go next Thursday.

Quick update. The dr, after looking at it and feeling it move around is almost 100 percent sure its a benign type lesion. :D So we will just have to watch it and see if it continues to grow or shrink on its own at this point.

Day 163. Really weird dip dream last night. Sitting in a bar with my wife and friends drinking some beer and accidently pick up someones spit glass and take a big swig. I remember thinking, "Oh no, this tastes like wintergreen chew." and spitting it back out. Then feeling guilty and considering if it counted as a cave or not. I decided that it didn't since it was an accident.

After 163 days that fucking nic bitch is still hanging out in the shadows. Fuck her.

Day 183. More than half way to a year quit. Great for me. I read yesterday that nicotine, cocaine and heroin are the 3 most addictive drugs known. The fact that 2 of those drugs are illegal and nicotine isn't and is used to inslave millions of people worldwide really pisses me off. Fuck you US tobacco. 'Finger'

Also check this out. 183 Days Free / $617.63 Saved This year I will save over 1200.00 kinda like giving myself a 60 cent raise just for quitting. Nice.

I like to look back and see where this journey has taken me and I really like the idea of giving myself a raise!

This past weekend my journey took my to uncharted territory .... I went on a hunting trip without Grizzly Wintergreen....... well it was great the other guys at camp were chewing a ton and they both offered me a shot once but told them both to go enjoy thier own cancer causing agent I was done with that shit!!!
Grizzly25 - win
Grizzly Wintergreen - 0 nothing, nada, zilch absolute zero!

Keep on keeping on brother!

200 days !!!!! The second hundred went much faster than the first. Can't wait for the next 100. 1 day at a time.

My wife asked me the other day if I had been chewing since I had some left over dinner crumbs around my mouth. I took it kinda personal and got a little pissed off but reminded her that I don't chew anymore. Still have a long way to go to totally change and prove to everyone that I truly will never go back ever.

Happy Thanksgiving and I am truly grateful to be quit.

I never was a "ninja dipper" :ph43r: I always chewed right out in the open in front of my whole family. My wife used to smoke before our kids were born so she couldn't really bitch too much about it. So I have to admit that I am having a hard time with "ninja quitters", who hide their quit just like they hid their nictotine addiction.

I say, Get it out in the open. Admit you are a addict and need / want help with your battle with the nic bitch. Some are afraid of being judged by their spouse. Why? They married you. They love you. They don't want you to poison yourself to death. Right? Or is it that they are afraid of the accountability that will come with telling the truth to everyone? That's the addict's way of thinking.

The nic bitch wants to be kept secret. She wants to have you alone. She can't handle the love and support of a family united against her. Strength in numbers.

Don't fight her alone, use everything at your disposal. The truth shall set you free.

I am proud to tell everyone I am a quitter because I am addicted to nicotine but now live as a free man.

Plus it will help explain why you have been such an ass to live with these few days. 'bang head'

 Yep, I just found a new crush.

I saw my first e-cigarette comercial on TV last night on Comedy Central during a South Park episode. I don't see why UST can market those on television legally. UST is targeting kids again and hoping to addict another generation to nicotine.

I think the oil/liquid they put in e-cigs are just pure nicotine + whatever and aren't made by big tobacco.

It's probably why big tobacco is trying to get e-cigs outlawed.

I think you should definately get the new label - it's a state of mind - trust me  (though you would have to first hand in the asshole label - not sure you are ready to take that step)

Today makes it one full year since I have been living as a free man. The begining was tough but taking it one day at a time, posting roll as much as possible and using this site, made the journey easier than going it alone for me. I am not done and still have cravings like all addicts do but I feel pretty good. :)
Thanks KTC.

Went to Wisconsin with another couple to see Jimmy Buffett all weekend long and I got to witness the first hand addiction of e-cigs. This couple hit their nicotine crack pipes constantly from AM to PM. They hardly ever put them down. Very sad and they think its healthier too. I just shook my head and told them I am 475 days quit from nicotine and tobbaco. :D

That'd be one awesome weekend!! Never seen him live, that'd be a great experience, one day one day!

Sometimes you just never know who you're having an impression on, maybe the couple thought twice after meeting you. And/or maybe not. But sometimes we can be an example in ways we don't know to people we don't even know.

500 DAYS !!!! 'oh yeah'

Survived golf camp with high school buddies last weekend. This used to be my 5 can and 2 cigar weekend. No craves this weekend just plenty of golf, brews, food and great friends.

Knowing that my half comma day was out there helped keep me focused and quit.

1000 DAYS !!!!! 'oh yeah' 'boob' 'boob' 'boob' 'boob' 'boob' 'oh yeah'

I just spent the last hour searching back to the beginning and reading posts from 2012. 1000 days quit, 1000's of posts read, 1000's of quitters all with one goal in common. Thanks KTC for being here and giving me the tools to gain back my freedom.

I wish I could say that I have it licked but sadly it will always be there and I will continue to do what I have been doing this whole time. Quit, post roll and repeat the next day. One day at a time. That's how I win. Simple.

I got the best present from my son yesterday, he was offered a spot on the USAF football team for 2015 !!! I will never forget this great day !!!!

Go Air Force !!!!

'oh yeah'

Congrats on that 1000 that's serious!
That 1000 just might be the reason you'll be sitting in bleachers watching that stud son of yours.
Congrats, and thanks for sharing, I've got a son playing D1 golf.
Blessed with plenty of reasons to stay quit. Quit with you.

3 YEARS OF FREEDOM !!!!!
Besides marrying my wife and having 2 wonderful kids this is the best decision I have ever made in my life !!!! I don't miss it. I hate what it does to your body and the horrible death that results from tobacco abuse.
I am quit this day just like the previous 1094 days.
