I started chewing 26 years ago in High school because it was cool. Well Thanksgiving day 2011 I will start a new cool habit NOT CHEWING. I would have never thought chewing could rule your life. Almost like you can't function without it. Well after several warnings from the dentist to quit I think it's time. Through a program at my work they offered a nicotine gum I am going to start to wean myself from nicotine.
-
You've got a lot to learn. This site isn't for people who "will" quit. And it isn't for people who choose gum over tobacco. It is for people who QUIT. That means no nicotine right the fuck now!!!
I wish I were welcoming you because I know (we all know) what you're battling. But until your ready to go cold turkey, we can't help you. You'll just have to sit on the sideline and watch the badasses show you how it's done.
-
Bean,
Well with a post like that. Tell ya what it's game on tomorrow with no gum!
-
Speaking of badass quitters, check out this thread: whsii intro (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5124&st=15). He had a similar plan as you and just but the hall. I know without doubt he would still be banging a can if he didn't man up and QUIT as opposed to switching delivery methods. Toss your crap and post day 1 NOW, not tomorrow.
-
DennyX,
I see what you mean about still receiving the nicotine with the patch or gum. Never thought of it that way. I'm going to go cold turkey on Turkey day.
-
Why not flush it and post tonight? Tomorrow never comes, you know that and so do I. We are masters at making excuses. I dare you...

YZ,
Welcome!! You're about to embark on the most satisfying and rewarding journey that you have ever had. It is going to suck for awhile, make no mistake. Reach out to this incredible brotherhood for help any time you need to. PM me for my number as I will gladly be there for you 24/7. No lie...you need me at 4:00 am...Call or text me.
Regarding NRT: I believe one of our bros copied a link to my introduction. Ah, yes! Those days , about 103 of them ago, when I thought I knew what to do. There will be NO replacement (gum, patches, chewing on cigars, sniffing panties of major dip whores...) There is only quit!
It sucks, your gonna hate life for a couple of days, but when the fog clears, you will be on a path to true freedom.
Join us. This site and the men and women who have the courage to make a committment everyday will save your life and enable you to understand that you are an addict. That's okay. It doesn't mean you are an evil or bad person...just means that you got addicted to a poisonous plant.

That's what I like to hear!!! Can't wait for you to step up. When you do, I'm behind you every step of the way. Until then, you're just another user talking big about what you're gonna do. That doesn't count around here.
Join us...you can do it!!!

whsii,
Thanks. The dip is officially gone. I've started my freedom from nicotine as I'm typing. I'm up for the challenge. I'll post updates as I go.

You just gave nic the middle finger, well done! Read the WELCOME CENTER (up top) and learn how and why to post roll. Then go post day 1 and tomorrow is day 2. You've got this!! PM me if you need anything. Stay close to this site, read, read, read everything.
-
Does that mean that you're going nic free right now? If so, find your quit group (March 2012) and post roll. That is your promise that no matter what happens, you will not put any nicotine in your body today. Keep your word. Do it all again tomorrow.
Don't worry about tomorrow, next week, or next year. We'll deal with those when they get here. You just worry about what you can control...now. Quitting is done one day, one hour, one minute at a time.
You can do this. You have the power. When you decide to commit yourself, do it. The post up and start living free...like us.
-
Bean,
Yep nicotine free right now. I just posted day 1 in the roll section.

We've all "been there, done that" - all of the craziness of your addiction. What does that mean? It means that if we can do it, you can do it. Be thankful on this day that you found KTC because - let me be clear about this - if you use the tools...if you spend a little bit of time in here...if you really want to quit, I mean in your gut you really desire freedom...then you WILL succeed. That is a Lifetime Guarantee that we all stand behind.
Welcome. Shout if you need anything.

Loved reading this thread. Way to throw that bitch out of your life. You can count on me if you need help. Just a PM away.
-
YZ - from one 26 year dipper to another I say, Great Job. You can do this...today. Don't even think about tomorrow, or next week, just focus on conquering this challenge today. You get to bedtime without putting any nicotine in your body and you can count it as a successful day. Today will be difficult and foggy at times but I assure you, you can do this.
Tell your wife, kids, friends. You will need their support.

Day 175 - I'm quit with you today.

Day 3 I'm hanging strong
One day at a time bro and we'll see the other side of this. You can do this.
Fight. Plan. Protect.

Well Day 5 back to work today after having last week off. It was a little harder going back to the normal routine. So I stopped and bought a tin and had just one dip. LOL JUST KIDDING. Everything is going good. Just like you guys say one day at a time. Thanks for the words of advice. I'm actually enjoying the challenge not to chew. I treat it like a game with myself and my mind.

Just a sick sence of humor I guess.

There is no cave. You shut the door. Burn your boats. Never turn around.
Its as though caving doesn't exist.

Day 1 and I am struggling
Keep fighting Shane. Think about this: you tried killing yourself with poison laden cancer candy for years right? You only go through withdrawal once.
You think your body was excited to have all them toxins put into it? Hell no. Let the process work. Drink water. Get some hard candy for the oral fix. You can do this.
Get your ass into chat if you need.

Day 1 and I am struggling
I can say the first 3 days were tough. Then the pressure eased off a noticable amount. I was going to us nicorete gum till this site talked some sence into me. Four things that have helped me the most.
1. Reading a lot on this site
2. Drinking a lot of water
3. Changed my daily routine
4. Mind over matter don't think about it.
After 26 years of chewing and my Kids and Dentist kept asking for me to try and quit. I said it's bad if I don't realize that this crap is not only hurting me.

The sultan of quit tells no lies-there is no cave...There is no turning back. Caving is for the weak. It is not for us.

First off, outfuckingstanding...
Second, there is no "try" here...you have quit.
Third, I applaud the proactive work in "changed my daily routine". That hard work is going to pay off.

Yes, good advice has been given. Buckle down and get through the first 3 days. Run, sweat, read, drink water, read, QUIT. You can get through this. We all did. Give a ring if necessary.

Well 100 days ago I made my first post on this site and wanted to say THANKS to you guys that got me started on my quit.
