Title: Day 1 of quitting
Post by: Bob7197 on April 02, 2012, 12:51:00 PM
Trying to quit Again, tried Chantix, cold turkey, fake chew, but just never really wanted to quit. I AM ready to quit NOW. I have been chewing Cope or Grizzly for 30+ years and while sure I'm addicted to nicotine, its the habits associated with chewing that are hardest for me to get through. It is time to quit so wish me luck

Words such as "luck" and "try" will get you reamed around here fellas. We quit, not try to quit. And when you have truly made up your mind to quit, no luck is needed. Just determination, and support from everyone here. You came to the right place for help as long as your serious. Read as much as you can on the site, and be strong. Good to quit with you today!!

Bob, you are truely in the right place if you are serious about your quit. On this site we take our quit seriously, we don not try we just do. Our favorite slogans come from Nike and Yoda, "Just do it" and "do or do not, there is no try".

The triggers (habbits assoc. w/chewing) will get easier as time goes by. Make sure you have a good cave plan and get connected with the guys in your quit group.

Hey Bob,
Welcome to the quit, let me know if you need anything, this is your ticket to freedom and it will work this time.
On a side note, I was curious about what Chantix did for you? (seriously). The commercials talk about hallucinations and suicidal thoughts as possible side effects, my daughter and I always joke when those commercials come on.
There's a whole fucking set of industries out there to:

a) get us hooked on tobacco
B) keep us hooked on tobacco
c) get our kids hooked on tobacco
d) drug the shit out of us when we try to quit tobacco
e) make us feel that it's okay to TRY and FAIL when quitting

FUCK tobacco. Bob, let's roll on the quit.

So true. In the past I tried the patch and nicotine gum. All that stuff did was trade one nicotine delivery method for another which then just led to buying a can since it's not like I was stopping the actual nicotine dependence. I've thought about chantix, but I hate taking pills or medication of any kind unless I really need them. And I was afraid I would go nuts and kill the dog or myself or something after reading chantix horror stories.

I think the cold turkey is now the best way. Sure you trade several days of pretty bad shit to get rid of the nicotine, but after it's gone, then you just get to play the mental game. I have been strong enough to focus on each day and beat that bitch - thanks to the quit bros in this place.

Pills and patches are for pussies. You're a bad-ass quitter...you don't need that shit.

Embrace the suck!!! Jump in with both feet. Just plain old cold-turkey, white-knuckled, no sleep, constipated, headache, nervous wreck quitting...that is the way to go.

Crazy fun knowing that you're saving your own life one nic-free minute, hour, day at a time, huh? Congrats, brother. Holler if you need anything.

Hey Bob. We're in this together. This is my Day 1 too. I have felt a bit weird today but nothing too bad. I think the mental will be the worst for me. I love what Bean said:

We can do this. All of us.
