Title: Finally made the choice to quit- Day 1
Post by: FlashFlo on February 03, 2017, 12:42:00 PM
I'm 30 years old from Michigan and I'm married with 4 daughters. I've tried to quit in the past but only last a week or two. I've wanted to quit for the longest time but never took it very seriously. This time I am serious about quitting because I want to be here for my daughters. So any advice y'all may have to help me get through this is greatly appreciated. Look forward to being interactive with most of you.

Hey Flash! Welcome aboard and congrats on finally making one of the best decisions of your life. If you are serious about this decision then just know there is no turning back, and that you are going to have to go through some really, REALLY tough times. However, also know that every single person on this site is or has experienced exactly what you are about to go through. Although the exact timing of your symptoms may vary from that of others, your overall experience will not be unique. If you use this site in the way it is intended, I assure you that you will not fail. 1) Find your group (Pre-HOF May group) and post role each and every day when you wake up, 2) Get familiar with this site and read as much as you can as early as you can, 3) Trade digits with several of your May brothers in addition to several of the vets (this is the part I initially had a problem with, but it is solid and is known as building a web of accountability - it works), 4) Drink a LOT of water, and make time each day to exercise, even if it's simply going for a 20 minute vigorous walk, 5) Truly listen to what those who have been quit longer than you have to say, and 6) Help your fellow brothers by posting words of encouragement them, particularly to those who appear to be struggling more than others.

PM me if you want to trade digits for support. Proud to be quit with you, brother!

From one Michigan dude to another I bid you welcome.

Keep in mind you never quit in the past - only stopped. I used for 17 years, and stopped 30-40 times, sometimes for a few weeks.. I have only quit once. It's nuances like these that helped me learn about our shared addiction.

Welcome Flash

Many people here have been in your shoes, hell, I did too. This group is an awesome community to plug yourself in if you're serious about quitting. I'll admit I would not have the self-discipline if it were just myself quitting. These folk keep me accountable and provide encouragement everyday. I quit with you.
