Title: done with dip!!
Post by: ballboy86 on May 23, 2013, 11:36:00 AM
I've been quit for 3 or 4 days and it's pure hell. but i've gotta stay strong and stay away because i know it's whats best for me. I found KTC during school and im glad i did because it actually made me think about my future and what it would be like if i didn't quit. I sat down and said to my self i'm a junior in high school i have bigger things to look forward to. so i put it down. As of right now i feel im still in the "fog" stage but as the days slowly go by it slowly gets a little better. It seems Dipping was an essential part of my life and now its crazy what im already going through only being quit for 4 days. hopefully i can be big and stay quit for the rest of my life

So per the board guidelines, we don't allow anyone that is trying to quit chew that is under the age of 18? I need an admin to explain this too me. I have read many of the HOF speeches and almost every single one starts off with staying they started when they were (insert any age under 18 here). If we can help someone that is under the age of 18 get off this shit shouldn't we?

I read the board guidelines..... And I gotta say the under 18 clause is crap. Are we telling this kid that he needs to battle his addiction without any support for another year? What If he gets cancer in that year? I don't want that on my conscience! Most of us started under 18, and we weren't smart enough to ask for help! I wanna see this kid succeed. Lets not get caught up in red tape. Lets support of fellow brothers!

Damn. I trust there's a good reason, but where do we send this guy for support? This guy is here trying to get help.

I think that Through with Chew is school based. I agree we all started young here not many people started when they were 35 here. The legality of corresponding with a minor is probably where the disconnect is coming from. We may be opening ourselves up for trouble without a consent by the parent to be here...which then is another fly in the ointment maybe the minor is a ninja dipper...society these days...delima

well as long as someone's not soliciting sex from either of these guys i don't see the legality issues.

Look at some of the avatars (lewd bastards) and the talk. No doubt, ballboy86 sees and hears worse every day, but I suspect this site wants to avoid responsibility for providing adult material to minors. I know, I know. That's ridiculous in the modern world, but it's my guess for the rationale, and it's not illegitimate. If it's the law that is responsible, it wouldn't be the only instance where the law doesn't match the way people actually live their lives.

Let's get constructive and figure out how to help ballboy86. Full disclosure: I have no ideas.

I think we need to hear from the admin first about this rule.

Technically under-agers should discuss all their problems with Mom and Dad they are legally responsible for teens under age of majority. They can refer him to pediatrician, etc.

Here's my advice if they won't let you stay on the site...talk to your school counselor or some adult there at your school that you trust. If your parents don't know you probably need to tell them and get there support. If you have a girlfriend that doesn't smoke or dip, you need to tell her. If you have a buddy that dips that wants to quit start your own little quit group. Form a quit group during your schools "activity period".

Folks,

There are a whole lot of legal issues with allowing those under 18 on this site... Particularly when you consider some of the talk, discussions, avatars, etc...

Trust the Admin's judgement here...

These guys have good reasons for the policies they enforce.

There is only one avatar that i would find a little offensive if my son or daughter say it and that is One impressive's. Other than that i don't think you can get in trouble saying a cuss word in front of a 17 year old can you? If so i could be in trouble when my kids get that age,.

As stated you must be a legal adult age 18 or older due to some of the content on this site and potential liability issues. We have a couple of folks under 18 that have their quit days posted by another legal aged member of the site. Sorry but that is policy of this website. Ballboy you need to find another support group or counselor, until you are 18.

I understand the liability statement of concern, website owners, myself includes place caveats on membership.
i know there is not a true legal issue, as much as possible concerns of liability, I have had to take the same steps on a couple websites I manage for a scout troop, i had to separate the parent message board from the boy's chatter.

I work in the school system as an IT geek, "schools" are required by law (CIPA) to protect students from certain types of activities online. in terms of "online" protection that the "Schools" responsibility, not the content provider.
