I have made the decision, I am done! I have chewed/dipped for about 25 years. Last week I turned 40. I think at 40, it's time to grow up! I need to be nicotine free for myself, my family, my faith and my finances.
On the way to the store for gum, seeds and water. I appreciate support. I know I can do this!

Welcome to the best decision you will ever make!!! And you're right, it does suck... but only for a little while then life becomes truly good.
You can do this. Find your quit group. Post roll today, give your word, then don't break that. And when tomorrow morning gets here do the same thing over again.
Make sure you seek out help and get phone numbers of guys in your group.

The average age of grown-ups is about forty ......be a bad ass instead! They have the instestinal fortitude to be an example...an inspiration...a leader...a man of their word! Are you a Badass? Prove it!
Welcome to the suck, drink fruit juice or water, helps with the headaches.
I ate a lot of gobbstopper jaw breakers, they packed in the gum to help satisfiy the oral fixation. The sugar helped me keep an more level mood......you will have dip rage....let it out to us! If you need anything, shout it out on the boards and we will come running. Get some phone numbers of some guys in your group. more on this later......most important . You give your word early in the morning and take dip off the table, so caving is not an option!

Yup - this is the best place to be, but don't do it because you turned 40, or for somebody else. Do it for yourself and be completely selfish. My daughter put the whole damn thing into perspective for me this weekend. She is only 6 and had already come to identify the "can" as something daddy always had. She wondered out loud where it went. I told her it was bad stuff and it was costing me time with her so I was going to quit using it. After a few moments of consideration, she said "So you really are quitting for me then?"
Point is: when you quit for you, everything else falls into place, you will never blame your quit on somebody else and potentially cave, and the rewards are great.

Halfway through day 1. Have eaten a whole field of sunflower seeds!
I'm doing okay so far. I think I am realizing this about 10-20% physical and the other 80% is about behavior modification. It was me looking in the mirror this morning and telling the guy in the mirror that he was the problem.

HEY NCHEEL

My office looked like a rabid bird stayed in it for the first 70 or so days of my quit. I also ate a ton of candy. Don't sweat it, you will naturally slow down your seed consumption.
STAY QUIT

Hey ncheel, I just finished my first week, I'm not going to lie to you, it wasn't the easiest week of my life, but I do agree with you. I believe its mostly mental/behavior modification. After I read that the nicotine is out of my system in 72 hours, I knew it was all in my head after that. I'm here for you. We can do this together. Rock on!

Okay, now into Day 2. Last night was odd. Slept okay, but not soundly. Normally would go to bed about 1:30ish to get that last dip in. Pleased to go to bed an hour or so earlier. Got 2 or so good hours of sleep then it got restless until this morning.
Realizing when worst cravings are going to be for me. Right after supper (the helpful husband syndrome - "I'll do the dishes, honey!") and then right now, in the mornings. So far, a GIANT cup of coffee and some herbal snuff are taking care of the morning craving.
Does anyone know a store, like WalMart or Walgreens or something that sells the herbal stuff? I hate to go all the way to Wilmington to the smoke shop to get it. I really don't want to go in a smoke shop because the COPE is right there behind the register!
Anyway, back to Day 2...the fog has set in. Not a massive headache, just feels heavy. Dragging ass a little.
Question for HOF'ers, am I going to need to start my day with oatmeal? Normally, a good fat lip would get things moving.
Love to hear from you guys and gals...I appreciate the support. I am reading, reading, reading. Love to post too and give updates...hope that is okay.

Good stuff, I love it when a quitter gulps the kool-aid.
Walmart generally carries Smokey Mountain. It is however in the tobacco aisle. You can order some other brands on-line. I never used fake, so maybe some other quitters can speak to this.
Read everyting you can and absolutely post away. The more you put yourself out there, the more people you will be accountable to, the harder it will be for you to mess up.
Oatmeal and coffee always gets things moving for me too......

hooch can be ordered online and comes quickly

mint snuff - has a link to stores that carry it and also you can order online
http://www.mintsnuff.com/ (http://www.mintsnuff.com/)
I still use it after 135 days quit, not because I "need" it, hell I dipped for 30 years, I just kidda like having a pinch from time to time and this stuff doesn't hurt you and your breath is minty!
Don't be afraid to use it. I won't ever go back to nic. I thought the smokey stuff tasted like crap, but the hooch and mint snuff is good.

I'm with you. I think once I get out of the nicotine cravings, I will be fine, but like you, I really did like to have something in lip!
Thanks for links. Had the MintSnuff. It's good, just a mess to get out of the can!
Will order some Hooch...like to try it first, but what the hell, I am DONE this time and got to invest a little money for getting what you want!

WOW, morning 3...this has been the hardest so far. Cravings are still there, should be okay in a little bit, have to get some caffeine and sugar in me.
This is the day I wanted the most, day 3 no more nicotine. Now it is the psychological game. There is nothing physical there after today. The problem now is that guy in the mirror that I shave with.
I will win! I will not be nic's bitch again!

Heel....I found that keeping track of that first 72 hours was important. I was told by a friend that is a doctor that the last 10 or so hours of the 72 hour soak is the hardest by far. Keep it up.....Im on day 22 and it does get easier. I didnt use any of the fake dip during my quit......I did and still do use seeds though. Good luck man.....yesterday + 1

Using seeds and fake. It will be 72 hours tonight so I guess this will be a "fun" afternoon!
Stay tuned! I will use this page to get me through the day.

Come check out chat too. Its a good distraction if you need to get your mind off things. Usually a few guys and a girl in there in the afternoon.

Yeah me! I just looked the bitch square in the eyes! Went to Walmart to get the fake (didn't have it) but bought a drink in the tobacco lane. Looked right at that wintergreen bitch and said NOPE!
One day at a time!
-
Good work ncheel. you and I are both on day 3 it looks like. So far its been a bitch for me.

When you refer to this 'girl,' do you mean TQ or rad?

God is reminding me to quit! I was making my to go coffee before leaving the house. I was stirring it and thought to myself, I would like just one dip this morning (I actually miss the Wintergreen taste). Anyway, right after I thought this, just enough coffee splashed out of my cup and on my pants! THE MAN says QUIT!
-
Glad to be in your group ncheel!

I went back and looked at this now that I am on day 81....it seems like just yesterday!
-
Day 81, man. We're on our way!
-
We are getting there! It has been a growth experience for me!
-
Here I am at t-minus 2 weeks. It is amazing to go back and see where it started and how far I have come but still have a lot of work to do. Not just looking to HOF but looking at 2nd and 3rd floor then 1 year!
One step at a time!
-
It is amazing to be just 3 days from HOF. For all you knobs...start one of these pages then come back from time to time to remind you where you have been.
Anyone new (or old) PM me and let me be one of your supports!
-
WOW, here I am almost a year removed from that first post. If there is anyone out there that is just starting, this does suck, but it is so worth it. I will be glad to help anyone that is doing this for the first time or starting year 2 or more. Stay with KTC, especially to day 100.

Ncheel,
I was reading through your page and I just wanted to know how much you and the rest of the KTC community have inspired me. Tomorrow I'll wake up for my day 10. I'm scared to think of how fast 1 year actually goes by, but I now know that no matter how fast or slow it may pass, I will wake up each day a better man for having quit.
I really enjoyed the coffee spilling story you posted a while back. Simple acts from the Big Man really help me out in life.
Congratulations man!
I'm proud to quit with you.
-
One Year! Now that is HOF!!! If you are just starting out...write and introduction and then check in on it from time to time with an update. Then have fun and come back a year later and see how much complaining you did over the best decision you ever made!
-
Congrats on a year! A huge milestone.
-
Congrats Ncheel! That is awesome! Any big plans?

Not that I'm one to help a heel, but looks like he quit posting the day after he hit 400. If any of his quit bros have his digits, hit him up.
