I had my first at the young age of 12. that was 31 years ago...now, at that time, i would only bum a dip from people. it wasn't until i turned 15 that i started buying my own. i was so addicted that even through basic training in the Air Force, i found ways to dip! I've stopped a few times only for a short while so i could take up smoking. I've been trying to quit for so long and never could do it. This morning, i was searching for some help to quit. my actual search in google was "how to quit snuff" and that led me here. So, i'm quitting. right now. 7/11/2012 @1:47pm. I'm really looking forward to the kick in the ass i need from you guys to keep me on track. This is going to be a very hard road i'm sure. my addiction runs deep.
For a little background of myself, i have an awesome wife, two daughters (8 and 13) and a dog. Thanks for the space. i will need it to vent i'm sure!

Welcome to the party. First thing you need to do is to go to the welcome center... link is above ( Salmon Color) Click on that and understand how and why we do what we do.
When you have read and understand posting roll you can find your quit group ( Oct 2012 ) and post your promise with them.
Great Decision !!

Shawn follow Greg's instructions. Roll call can be confusing for a new quitter complicated by the tension of quitting. If you will go to your inbox upper right and click on it I'll leave you my # if you have trouble posting text me. Remember 1 day is always possible!

thank you guys. i have been reading here all day so far (not getting much work done). it's 3:03pm now and man am i jittery already! my routine was to have a dip in whenever i wasn't eating or sleeping. Tonight is going to be very hard. i can see that already.
Wt57, I appreciate you leaving your number for me, and even more for the encouragement. this place is something i wish i would have found long ago. i know i can quit. i know i have what it takes to quit. i also know i cannot do it without support and encouragement.

Shawn....
You said you wanted a little busting in the balls and I have really been wanting to hand one out. I see a bunch of you guys so excited about coming here and quitting... they post their stupid little intro telling us their history and how much they want to quit, how they have been stupid for 30 years, scared shitless about cancer, this that and the other and they don't even make it to day 3. Well I think you are a little different. You said you have been through the Air Force, so I don't think you are a pussy, but I want to make a bet that you wont be here in a week. Want to prove me wrong, go ahead! But weak quitters like you are a dime a dozen. I will give you one hint to prove me wrong! Post an update on your intro here each day so when you look back you can see how far you have come and you can think about the hell you went through. Remember these next few days and promise that you won't go back to killing your self. Post roll everyday... promise me, your quit brothers in October and everyone else on this site.
You want to prove me wrong... pussy?

If you can keep your word, post roll right now. If you're looking to keep you options open, just keep lurking in the guest lounge. When you big-ass crave kicks in and your starting to slip into the fog, you are gonna NEED to know that you promised not to dip TODAY.
-
i'm from the school of thought that my word is a contract. i'm in this to kick it! i will be back tomorrow to post. and every day after. my nic days are over!
-
ok. that was one of the worse nights ever! how can i be so flat out exhausted but cant sleep?!? this is going to be a looooong day at work. anyway, i posted roll and i quit again today!! morning guys!

Hang it there. Honor the contract, bro. The sleep levels out pretty quickly. Look at this like a roller coaster. You're gonna experience all kind of stuff as your body recovers from using nicotine. Learn to be amused by it. Enjoy the ride.
I'll see you here tomorrow.

Hang tough man. The first not sleeping will go away and I promise it gets easier. Get some gum, sunflower seeds , candy , go for a run, to the gym whatever you gotta do. Just Stay Quit. Let me know if i can help
-
Embrace the suck man. It won't last forever. It took me about 10 days to return to some good sleep patterns. Then you will know you have won your first battle with the nic bitch. Hang tough.
-
Am also right in the middle of the sleep interruptions, but if this is the worst of it (after the initial 3 days of withdrawl symptoms) I will definately take it over the killing myself with that crap. And as everyone says it will subside.
Keep quit with us man.

Reading a book in bed worked for me the first couple of weeks. I would go to bed early and just read until my eyes got tired and then I would just fall right to sleep.
-
Shawn... hopefully this time will be burnt into your mind so anytime you think about putting that shit back in your mouth you will remember this time. Embrace the suck!

burning eyes. cant concentrate at all. i'm tired, but cannot sleep. i cant carry on a conversation because i lose my place. damn this sucks so bad. i spent a hour looking for an alternative just to help with the habit part. none in this damn town anywhere. i can order some smokey mountain, but it will take a few days. i want it now! i finally found some mint. not great but it helps a little. day 2 is almost over. day 3 coming up and i will see you all here. quitting again.
-
Stay Strong ....you can kick this thing.....one more day and it eases up (have been through it).
try anything, life savers, seeds, hell butterscotch ice cream topping, anything to give you some flavor in your mouth to help fight back the nic bitch.
Good going for 2 and will stay quit with you.

Hey Keep it up my friend. I am qutting with you today....
Listen, I didnt sleep right for a good 10 days even those they say the physical addiciation is 3 days or so...
I would go to sleep at 10-11pm, wake up by 1am and take half hour naps until 5 am to get up for work. That sucks, but now I am sleeping like a fucking rock.
With the craves, for myself I have eaten so many sunflower seeds the first 3 weeks I think I had a sunflower sprouting out of my ass....what also helped w the craves were if able to, when craving I hopped on this site and read these posts and the crave would slowly pass......
Stay strong....

just got home from a business trip. i didnt have cell service where i was in BFE, indiana so i couldnt get online. my fault, i should have made some arrangements to get my roll posted. i'm still a quittin' fool and i'm going to post roll anyway, even though the day is over.

day 8. i'm a quitter today. the mornings are still the hardest. the crave as soon as i wake up is intense! i will kick this though.
-
If you used to pop a chew in first thing in the morning then that's to be expected. I mainly chewed at night after dinner so that is when my craves hit me the most. Keep it up. Stay quit !!!!

day 10
feeling a little antsy today and light headed. i will be drinking alot of water today to combat this. i found a strange thing too. my tastes are changing. i used to drink coors light. now it tastes crappy. i've tried a few different beers and all taste stale to me now. i enjoy (used to) a cold beer while i'm grilling, and i grill three - four days each week. what a shitty side effect! no more beer for me? anyone else had their taste change?

Coors light ALWAYS tasted crappy - you just never noticed... Step up your beer selection bro - you'll never regret it. So many great craft brews......so little time. Cough up 12 bucks for a sixer of Golden Monkey and you will never go back to drinking shity beer again..

Wait a minute....I just realized you are 10 days in. Let me ad a disclaimer to my previous post:
For most, alcohol is a trigger mechanism. Alcohol + grilling strikes me as a particularly devious trigger mechanism. Excercise caution my friend - many good quits have been derailed by the activities you are talking about. I believe that each quitter here has their own level of mental toughness and their own level of quit inside - some are weak, some are strong, some are enjoying the quit, some are not enjoying at all, and many are guarding terrified quits.... so I am not one of those that will preach to you about not drinking early on....only you know if you can handle that....BUT.....I will say to make sure you are vigilant. Make sure you are secure in your thought process of quitting, and make sure you have a plan in place to combat any potential craves.
-

If it were easy, anyone could do it. Dig deep and keep your word till you go to bed. Sleep the sleep of a proud and honest man than repeat. You can do this but don't expect it to not suck. Above all, be well today.

It still amazes me at how predictable and constant quit day and symptoms are the same.
Awesome that you feel great. Stay the course an you will rack up tons of days like this! However, you are not out of the woods. You are going to have funks and wonder why you never can poop.
Take the good and bad in stride. All our phases. Just enloy, or survive the day. No matter how you feel, nicotine lies. You can't feel great with her. Keep kicker her sorry ass to the curb!

Shawn, keep up the good work. Cherish these days, and know that they only get more likely as your quit grows. I PROMOSE you that days like this are LOT more common than not at day 182.
Use this good day to pick up some foggy quitter.
-
day 15 now. i went to sleep around midnight. woke up at 2:30am and could not go back to sleep. i got up and took a walk. that was pretty nice. everything was calm and quiet. but after that, i was up for the day. i made a good breakfast and watched TV until it was time for work. now i'm exhausted! hopefully tonight will yield more sleep. i feel great with my quit. just have to get my sleep pattern worked out.
-
running day 19 now. doing really well lately. the crave is not so strong and the fog has lifted for the most part. i have more good days then not now.
does anyone know how to post roll with a smart phone? i travel a lot for work and i find that sometimes i cannot get internet service. it would be nice to use my phone so i can post anywhere. at least where there is cell service.

SmartPhone Instructions (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5171) can be seen here. There may be a better link. Maybe someone else can help?
Good to hear about the feeling of comfort at Day 19. That's awesome. The good news is, the bad spells will be separated by longer and longer periods of time. Your "good times" will be extended.
When the good times come, the best piece of advice is this...REST! Rest up for the battles that are sure to come. Your addiction is not done with you by a long shot bro. Again...REST!
The funks come...the funks go. Each a little less intense than the last. Make that Roll Call early. Make it daily. Be a man of your word. It's the simplest hardest thing you will ever do. Just remember...you are not alone. You are being supports and protected by the strength of a 1000 men. You just gotta be willing to rely on that strength when you are the most vulnerable.
Be cool friend...be clean. Lickably clean.

When the good times come, the best piece of advice is this...REST! Rest up for the battles that are sure to come. Your addiction is not done with you by a long shot bro. Your "good times" will be extended.
Particularly lickably clean...loot checks that

shawn... you have proved me wrong since day one. I thought you were weak and that we would never see you again. Stay strong, stay quit brother. Continue to stay quit one day at a time. Can't wait to read your HOF speech!

I found this site 7/11/2011 and signed up. At 3:00pm that day...I quit. posted roll every day and made my 100 day mark. No way it was easy, but i did it. After my 100 day, I went off on my own a free man. Quit. I just wanted to check back in and say that i am still quit. Thanks to the support from the people here and thank you for the forum and web site. This is a great resource! Thank you, for helping me kick the nic bitch out of life!

Check you quit year my friend, you were with us Oct12 madmen. And yes a solid poster in those first 100 days. Glad to hear you are still quit...why not post again with us, stick around a bit. Quite a bit has changed since you have last seen.
And remember, just because we use this site to quit nicotine, we can use the Brotherhood that we form for so much more.
