Been thinking about quitting for a while now. Started on a squirrel hunt when I was 14. I'm 38 now and haven't been without a dip for more than a handfull of days since I started. A Few in Basic Training and a few in Cuba when the PX ran out. I use a dip a bit over a can a day, and it's Red Seal so it's got a bit more. Been trying to cut back lately. Instead of having my first dip of the day while I'm getting ready for work, (Shit shower, shave), I've held off till after 9am. Well, I forgot my can this morning, and I didn't have that first dip. 11pm last night was the last. It's 12:06 now, so I'm at 13hrs since my last. Kinda freaking out just a bit. Thought it would be a good time to quit. Definitely going to need some help with this. Should I just quite cold turkey, or taper this off some more. Feeling kinda weird. Not bad, I'm not dying or anything. Just foggy, but really focused. Hell I don't know.

Welcome!
Cold turkey is the only way to go and the only way that we support here at KTC! You are right it is hard. But thousands have done it here before us and so can you! You are at the right place! It only takes 72 hours for the Nicotine to leave your body and then the rest is all a mental game. Here we only commit to being quit for one day at a time. You can stay quit for one day right? Then tomorrow we repeat! Go to the welcome center and start reading the info in the threads there. It will tell you everything you need to know. Get your mind right because you will need to stay focused. Welcome to site and embrace the suck! It will get better!

Yep... you've already quit, and your body is flushing itself so the healing process can begin. Starting back again now would be completely insane. You're probably 14 hours or so into it now, that means you're already 20% of the way to a clean bloodstream. DO NOT throw that away.
Tapering down is a farse. It only prolongs the agony because you'll still feel withdrawal effects, but it'll just take longer. A badass quitter friend of mine on this site once posted one of the wisest statements I've ever heard. I keep it handy for times just like these. It goes like this:
Whether nicotine dependency was established and/or maintained by being chewed, smoked, drank, snuffed, sprayed, swallowed, sucked, licked or patched, in the end there is only one way out - no nicotine today.
Get on over to your quit group and post roll. That's your promise that you won't use nicotine today. Then honor your word.
Let me know if I can help out.

Quit. Cold turkey. As the other guys have said, you already have a nice start!
Yes, it's going to hurt a bit, but that's the price we pay for freedom.
One caution: you forgot your can this morning, which means it's sitting there waiting for you when you get home. That will be a small test. Walk in, flush the remains of that can, and continue your quit. "One more for old times sake" is a lie that can will tell you. Don't listen! Don't romanticize your dipping days. Dipping is harmful and disgusting, remember that.
Get on this site as often as possible. Read all the info you can. Allow yourself to be brainwashed by this community. Enter our culture. All of it will help.
Your quit group is November 13, meaning in November you will be 100 days quit. Post roll there daily as a promise not to use nicotine that day. Keep that promise.
I'm pumped up to have you here. I quit with you today, this hour, this minute.

Well, went home for lunch to retrieve my can of dip in the bathroom. The wife was standing there telling me about her morning at work. I grabbed the can, opened it up, then dumped it in the toilet. Bought a can of Bac-off and smoky wintergreen crap at the tobacco store. It did take the edge off. My bottom lip feels like a big marshmallow though. It's not really that big, Just feels weird.

Head up to The Welcome Center (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13) for the basics and then go post your daily promise in your new group Pre Hall Nov 13 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=8568)

Hang in there buddy, it gets really bad but gets better quickly. I am just on day 17 and the past few days have been way better. Day one felt like it was 3,246 hours long...
You can do this.
I quit with you.

Good job bro! That's the only way to quit. Click on the Welcome Center link at the top left hand side of the page and go post roll call with the Pre-HOF November 2013. Read, read and read some more. Check your PM.

Proud to have you in the Nov 13 group of some bad ass quitters. Remember, drink the kool aide and drinking deep. Embrace the suck and love the quit.

Still quit! Mouth is getting sore. Slept decent last night. Only a few hours though. Ended up on the couch downstairs. Seriously thought I was going to beat the wife with the dog! One was snoring, and one was licking/grooming, driving me fu$#*@ nuts!

Whatever you do, you CANNOT take this out on family, friends, or the dog. None of them made you an addict, so they don't deserve punishment. Dude, I am a pretty low-key sort of guy, but I had some serious rage issues early in my quit. My reccomendation is that you get your wife on board with what's happening. Get her to read The Spouse's section (http://www.killthecan.org/community/spouse.asp) and talk it over with her. Unless she has overcome nicotine addiction herself, she has no idea what you're going through. She will (if she doesn't already) think you're being a prick for no reason. My wife thought I was considering divorce or something. After she read that, she became one of my biggest quit supporters. I think she loves KTC more than I do.

All good. Made it to work. I sit at a desk. I figure up quotes for Aerial trucks and then draw them out with a CAD program. I dip, (dipped) all day. I stopped by the store this morning, and bought some mints, another can of non-tobacco chew, and some apple cinnamon mini rice cakes. Almost there, one more day.

Thats how we do it. Whatever it takes, to be quit. You post roll early, and be accountable. I quit with you today.

I am so glad you are hanging in there but I want to wash any perception that day 3 is some magical day where fairy's appear, your wallet gets fat and you become better looking.
72 hours is when the Nic should be out of your body but guess what, Your body is used to living on Nic and now it's going to fight you. Not trying to scare you, just making sure you are ready to dig in deep and get through the next little segment.
My wife also asked me if I was having second thoughts about our marriage or going through a mid-life crisis. I quit dipping, bought a new car and bought a new bike all within a couple of weeks and it freaked her out.
also, I agree...if the dog is snoring and the wife is licking...put the dog on the couch.

buzz,
I now work a similar type of job as you do. I recommend a large glass of water each hour too. The frequent bathroom breaks will flush out the natural diuretics in the mints you will chew through (speaking from experience).
Holler if you need to talk. Sorry I didn't meant to ignore you in chat I was multitasking.

Day 3. I think I've gained 20lbs! Yesterday was the first day of the IL State Fair. Went for a while last night after work with the daughter. That was pretty tough. Really, really wanted a pinch. No matter how grumpy I got, she just kept saying I love you Daddy. Hang in there!

That sounds like a great supporter buzz. There are a lot of us on the forum close to you. I am right near STL and would love to add to your Accountability Stakeholders list.
Stay strong and remember your daughter is proud of you; but this is your QUIT brother. Do it because you want to have a lip when you smile on her wedding day but still do it for you.

Freak Buzz, are you really gone?
With that little girl telling me how much she loved me, I would find a quick way to strap on a really big pair, spit that crap out, get on here and post day one, take some abuse and freaking gain my life back.
You could be the man of your wife and Daughter's dreams right now so man the fuck up.
