I am a dipper of 20 + years. from 14 to 20 I was on again, off again smoker, and mixed dipping in there. Met my, now, wife in college and she said that smoking had to go, so I switched to dipping full time. I decided on our wedding day that I was done with it and the marriage almost didn't last past the honeymoon. I got a can the first time I could in the airport on the way home from the carribean. I had a dip in most of the waking hours of the day and sometimes even when I ate. I am active in my church and would have one in while leading singing or teaching our youth the bible. What a hypocrite!
I had a coworker that had esophagus cancer and never did this stuff. I asked him what his first indication was to get checked and he said it felt like that was a shell from a popcorn seed stuck in his throat. he said it felt it got bigger and bigger until he got it checked. Now every time I have something like that in my throat I panic and threatened to quit. I just hope it isn't too late. I am 37 with my third boy on the way, due in June 2014 and don't feel I would have that much longer left if I keep doing this shit.
I am on day 2 and it is difficult. I am coaching first base for my son's 8U Baseball team and I don't feel all there. I feel I can fly off the handle at the smallest thing. I am glad there were not controversial calls today. I might have lost it.
I am determined to do this. My Mom was just diagnosed with Lung Cancer at 76..... She hasn't smoked since she found out cigs were bad for you back in the 50's/60's. That is my motivation ( well that and my family) but I am doing this for ME!

Good intro. You sound like a ton of quitters here. We are all addicts and we are all saving our own lives by doing two things:
Posting roll daily Making friends
Brotherhood + Accountability = Success

Welcome, pcalf! Thanks for the intro. Glad you are here.
Keep the good work. It does get better and easier.

Calf it was good seeing you in chat. The nic rage will go away with time, feel free to yell, cuss, and bitch at me, it's better than taking it out on your family or someone who doesn't know what you're going through. Stay quit brother, PM me if you need a number.
You got this shit man,
MCO

Hi Calf. Congrats on making a great decision. Quitting is hard, but you can do it. Post roll, keep your promise, rage with us because we can take it and we get it. Chat is a great place for this as you have seen. Come back often. Most importantly, listen! I see a lot of incredible life saving advice get thrown around in chat and people just don't listen.....
Quit with you....

Everyone can quit for the day! I quit with you today. Tomorrow, we'll talk about that when it comes.

I also had a throat issue kick-start my quit. It took 8 months to resolve, ended-up being a silent GERD issue related to stress. I've also coped with other health issues I thought were due to cancer. Thankfully, these have been ruled out and the underlying cause of my symptoms were likely stress and anxiety. Well, today I know I don't have cancer. That feels great. I also know I'm not putting nasty dip and nicotine into my body, causing my body to heal daily lesions that permit unnatural chemicals (in addition to nicotine) into my bloodstream. I also know that these chemicals are not changing/mutating the way my body heals, therefor adding risk for cancer. My dentist appointment earlier this month, passed with flying colors. My blood pressure is down, and my personal health goals focus on clean eating and fitness.
I am 38 years old and dipped for 18 years. I have 2 kids and my mother and father were smokers (sound like someone you know). There are lots of us here who make us see ourselves in the mirror. I have also been quit for 144 days and for 144 days have not been a slave, I've been free, and live without worry. Anything that happens to me from this point on is out of my control. I control nicotine. Yes. But it requires daily work. A daily task and commitment. Post roll and promise. Build accountability to that word. Do it every day, one day at a time.

I sent him a text around 1 PM MT today and still haven't heard anything back... Really hoping everything is OK, he's always been really responsive. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.
