Hope this post works…brain is not functioning at full capacity at present. Day 1.
Beginning this morning, I am fully committed to ending a 16-year love/hate affair with Copenhagen. As a can-a-day user, that equates to 5,840 days, around $20,000 with nothing to show, gum lines that make me nervous, and a healthy fear of oral cancer that will stay with me for the rest of my days.
I will keep the introduction short. Today I need to keep my mind off the hurt by going out with the wife and kid. Before joining this site and making Day 1 official, I tapered off nicotine using the gum. Thus, the fog is not quite as bad as it has been in the past. This is not my first attempt at quitting, so I know the fog well. However, this WILL be the last time I ever quit. I just can’t live with this habit in my life any longer. I went to the hospital 2-weeks ago and visited a friend (Aged 60, with 30-year tobacco habit) who had half of his jaw and tongue removed to stop the spread of cancer. Hell, I even put a dip in on the way to see this guy! However, after being in that room, and seeing the result of this lifestyle choice, the fear has me by the balls and I am done. This is Day 12 with no Copenhagen, however; this is Day 1 without the crutches or nicotine sidekicks.
All for today. I look forward to reading your stories tomorrow and in the coming weeks.

Welcome Georgia. Just want to welcome you and help get you off on the right track. Time to start getting that mind right.
I noticed in your intro you stated chewing was a habit. I wish that was the case. If that were true i would have the habit kicked and never think of chewing again.
Me and you are addicted to one of the most addictive drugs known to man. That is why we live by never again for any reason. That is why one is to many and 1000 is never enough. That is why we need this sight and each other to battle this addiction.
It gets easier and easier to say no to the poison. Life is so much better without it. You will be so happy you decided to take your life back. Freedom is sweet. If you need anything give me a pm.

Don't get complacent. I sat day after day with a friend as he died with half a face and continued dipping for another 30 years. Nicotine addiction can cause us to do some damn foolish things. Don't leave the door open post roll early every day!

Thanks to all of you who posted to my INTRODUCTION. I have now made it 72 hours....and feel pretty good overall.
The worst part so far is the realization that my dip routine is gone. Truthfully, the feeling is kind of like losing a friend....although this friend stole $5 bucks a day, made me hide from my wife because I was a closet dipper, and shredded my gums....so I know this feeling of loss is a strange one. Anyway, the physical pain (withdrawal) has greatly reduced. I am now moving into the mental part of this quit.
Still learning how this site operates, and hope to have it figured out soon.

72 over and done. Go outside. Find the tallest building. If you don't live to far head on up mount Everest. Take a good look. See the world the way it was intended. See the world without nicotine desensitizing your Brain and impairing your vision.
For 72 yours you've been free. 72 hours you haven't went down to the corner store and spent your hard earned money on something that does absolutely nothing for you but take.. Strips you of freedom while causing you to question your dignity. Welcome to freedom! Smell it, taste it and feel it. I say me and you wake up post roll and do it again tomorrow. I got nothing better to do.

Day 4....not so bad. I have rediscovered a love of Milk Shakes over the past four days. Brain needs some kind of stimulation I suspect. I still have not figured out the roll-call for this site. I will work on that one tomorrow. I have read through many of your posts, which does help keep me focused. Thanks to all of you.

Georgia, if milkshakes keep you from throwing the evil poison in your mouth today -- then have at it. Go buy a couple of half gallons and some milk. Do whatever it takes to stay clean. You are at a critical time here and you need to battle thru. Focus on your quit 1 day at a time -- today is that one day.
Have you posted roll yet? This is critically important to a successful quit, so you need to figure this out ASAP. Don't wait for tomorrow on this one. A roll post is your committment to not use nicotine in any form for that day. Shoot me a PM and I can walk you thru it if you'd like. Or hit up one of your month leads and they can assist.
