I have enjoyed chewing for 30 some years now. But the older I get the more I realize that one needs to be concerned for their health. This makes me want to quit. In the past year I have lost over 50 pounds and became addicted to exercising. It just makes it seem that much more stupid to be chewing.
But I also have to quit. Just this year my employer as part of the annual health screening asks if you smoke or chew tobacco. If you do they charge a $100 a month surcharge for health insurance. If you mark no and they find out that you do it will result in termination for falsifying documentation. I averaged about two cans of chew a week. The surcharge on my health insurance was going to cost me more then the tobacco itself. So I marked no on the form and new I had better quit before my next random UA.
I have not had a chew since first thing Friday the 15th of January. I scraped the last chew out of my can when I got up that morning and have not had one since. The only serious temptation I face is when I stop at a store that has chew. As long as I resist buying any I won't have to worry about resisting taking a dip. One advantage I have is that the thought of sharing a can of chew with someone else has always disgusted me. It doesn't matter if it involves me taking a chew from there can or letting them take a chew from mine. I did face a strong urge at the convenience store tonight. But instead of buying a can of chew I bought a pack of gum.

Bicycle, Welcome to KTC. There is so much wrong with your first post. It screams addict. Let's get a few things clear. 1. I'm on your team so don't take criticism the wrong way here. 2. You never enjoyed chewing, the drug trick fucked your mind into thinking that however, you will come to know the true man inside down the road. 3. You will never quit for money, a job, a spouse, a kid or anything else. You MUST quit for you. Soon there will be many other quitters along to help you on the ride to freedom. Listen to them, don't fight what works and KTC works. 810 days of freedom for me today. If my addict self can do it so can you.

Welcome Bryan,
You're here. That's the important thing. You've taken the first step and posted a couple determined sounding, heartfelt diatribes. You've made a decision for whatever reason. Now you gotta follow through.
The next step, as you know, is to make your promise today over in 4/16. You've been lurking for awhile. You knew this was coming. Now it's time for the next step, then the next.
What do you have to lose beside a few bucks, your integrity or part of your mandible?

^^ some good advice here.
Get active and investment in your quit each day, read up and build up some support.
Post roll everyday, first thing. Then if you if you get a crave, are sitting at a gas station, what's your plan. text a quit brother, fake chew, gum, mints, ???
Quit on brother,
Id Spuds

Where are you bicycle! Are you gonna continue on being a slave or you gonna man up grab your sac and let us help you? It's a journey you will never regret! Matter of fact then only thing you will have to regret is not posting.

I'm here, don't worry I have not given up that easy. I know from past experience that the initial quit is easier for me then the long term. I have gone for weeks, months, even years without chewing only to fall back in the past. I am very determined to make this the last time I have to quit.

Great job bicycleptic. Posting roll is the secret to success. You keep saying you "have to quit"......Do you want to quit? and if so, can we hear it?

Thanks ChickDip, Those words mean a lot coming from you. I am sure everybody as a "newbie" here has "veterans" they look up too. You were one of mine from the very beginning. You didn't leap into the new group and attack everybody. You were there to offer support and encouragement. You had two hundred and ninety some days then and that seemed like an astronomical number at the time I was just starting. Now, that number and even 542 doesn't seem so unreachable. My goal is ODAAT, my goal is a comma but ultimately my goal is forever.
Thank you for all you do here

Anyone can be a "veteran" here if they just post roll here every day and keep their promise. You do more than that bicycleptic which puts you into that "Bad Ass Quitter" group. Thanks for all you do here brother! :)
-
Agree with Stranger. Good stuff BIC. Keep it up.
I think event the 'veterans' soften over time.
Myself, each day I post my promise i feel a little bit less like a loser for letting tobacco control my life.
You are a bad ass quitter and a good vet. So good that I'll promise to quit with you today!
-
Hows the quit going now? great start so far-- keep building, the network and the knowledge make all the difference!
Completely agree ^^^ I see your support all over KTC! Keep growing those roots!
-
I am still quit. I did buy a few cans of Smokey Mountain a few weeks ago when I was driving a lot of highway trips. I just finished the last of that today and my next goal is to stay off that crap. In the long run it can't be good for you as much as it irritates the inside of the lip.

Thanks Matt, I thought today about when I joined this site and I had so much admiration for vets who already had over 300 days quit. Now I just consider 350, a year to be a step. I have already proclaimed a comma to be my next goal. I chewed cat dung for 31 years and realize I can't stop quitting after a year or two. My past experience as an alcoholic has actually helped me here. I have not had a drink of alcohol for 21 years but realize one slip is all it would take for a downward spiral. Tobacco is he same way. One dip and the addiction has returned.

I actually love bicycling on ice just not on the roads. I live a half mile away from the bicycle path that runs alongside the river for over 20 miles one way. I have been out cycling on it when there was anything from ice to 10" of snow on the ground.
Several years ago during a snow storm I was bicycling up that path and as I was passing under a bridge I noted a homeless man standing there. I could not help but notice that he had no gloves on. My goal that day was 20 miles and as I rode by I decided if he was still there when I headed back home I would go buy him a pair of gloves. I got another mile and a half up the path and there was a pair of gloves lying right next to the bicycle path. Now mind you it was snowing like mad. The gloves were dry and lying on top of the snow and still had the packaging with the gloves stapled together. I did not need anyone to tell me what to do with those brand new gloves. I grabbed them up and turned my mountain bike around and rode back to that bridge. The man was still under there and was so happy to get a pair of gloves. I believe those gloves were placed by God to be on top of the snow, brand new and still dry.

Thanks worktowin and Chickdip, I really should check on this thread more often.
Today, 648 days quit is no magic number, it doesn't mark any years or special numbers. But in my case as I was unable to sleep this morning I realized I might want to document this day. Probably the reason I am up so early and couldn't go back to sleep is today is the most major job change for me in over 20 years. Slightly over 20 years ago I went to work in a factory making construction equipment. There over half the employees either smoked or dipped. Then about ten years ago they banned smoking inside. About 5 years ago they banned tobacco use on the premise. Then 2 years ago they added a $100 surcharge onto health insurance for tobacco use. Still many people on the floor did not stop dipping or smoking they were just a lot more sneaky about it. Still a few people have been terminated for smoking on the property.
But starting today I am beginning a new challenge with a new job in a different department. I am so glad I have already quit because this would be even more challenging if I had not. As of today I go to work for quality control and am no longer on the shop floor all day. I would no longer have a tractor to duck behind to slide in a dip. Instead I would have to duck in my cubicle and hope no one walked by. Or go to the bathroom and dip in the stall. It would be so much more risky. The offices used to have a lot of lenience because the plant manager was a smoker. Now though the plant manager is a strict non smoker and there is no lenience. Nobody was terminated for smoking on the premises until he came. I am thankful that I quit 648 days ago and don't have to learn a new job with nic rage involved. Almost everyone on the shop floor has a goal of ending up somewhere like Quality Control some day. But many of them don't dare actually do it because they know what would happen if they got caught using tobacco in the offices.

For Gods sake can someone please explain to me what is so fucking hard about posting roll every damn day and keeping a promise one day at a time?? Sometimes I swear I have to stop posting in the new groups because I just don't see how someone can be so retarded as to cave. We are not asking for a miracle here. Wake up every morning, take a piss and then get on the desktop, tablet, or phone and post roll. Posting roll is making a promise. Can you keep a promise? If you cannot keep a promise then fuck off, go away and don't post roll. Come back to quit when you become a man. Once you post roll and have made a promise then keep the promise!!! DON'T stuff catshit in your pie hole!! Dammit what is so complicated about it?
I might cave if I quit posting. But I am a man of my word. It is really all you have not only here but everywhere in life. So I awaken every day and post a promise. I still after 665 days face the occasional craving. But then "Nope, I made a promise this morning." Last week I stopped for a tea and for some reason Redman Golden Blend caught my eye. Skoal Long Cut was my regular day to day chew but Redman Golden Blend was my outdoor I can spit all I want chew. My daily vow to keep my promise was all that kept me away from buying a pouch of it. I did not become a worthless piece of shit that went against my word and hated having to answer three questions.
There is no acceptable excuse to cave. You made a promise. If you can't keep that promise then I feel sorry for people in your life. Your wife, mother, boss, electric company, water company, mortgage company, car finance company, etc. Do you say fuck it in keeping a promise to all of them as well? I just don't get it. I pay my bills on time. I get up and go to work every day. All of that is keeping a promise. I don't cheat on my wife, another promise I keep. So keeping a promise one day at a time to not suck on cancerous cat shit is not to complicated to me. Some of you cavers please enlighten me why it is so damned difficult. Everyone says to ask the vets questions. But right now I want to ask cavers the question of how? Why? Personally I really don't give a fuck why you caved. All of the answers are a bunch of weakass sour excuses for being a man who cannot keep his word. What I really want to know is why don't you keep your word? Do you keep your word with your wife? Your creditors? Your work? I wonder because you can't keep your word with yourself or your fellow quitters!!!

Hey! If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Flaw, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Short Memory Lane with all the other occasional posters and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol?

Just another good day to be quit is all today is. My middle daughter is done with her extended Christmas break from college and I get to drive her back to college in a few hours. It snowed here last night and the temperature is 14 degrees so it will be a long drive there and back. Two years ago a 200 mile drive on snow and ice would have led to many dips. Now, no chance of that. I can't even remember the last time I seriously craved a dip. The last time I stuck Smokey Mountain in my mouth I found that disgusting and was spitting that up within a matter of minutes. Nowadays the only thing that stays in my mouth any length of time is gum, breath mints and a toothbrush. I can now laugh at the fools sneaking a smoke or dip at work instead of being one of them. Some think I am cold blooded because I have no sympathy when they get caught and terminated. Thanks for all of the support and I will be here again tomorrow morning to make another promise.

Realized I hit another stage of quit recently. It has been quite some time since I had a dip of Smokey Mountain or even a temptation to do so. Well, yesterday I was driving my wives car and had to open the center console. There was a pretty full can of Smokey Mountain I did not even realize was there. I was not even tempted to take a dip of it. The last time I did dip it I spit it out in a matter of minutes. I took that can and littered as I drove. I don't even have a craving for fake dip any more.

I'm not talking about any one person. I am talking about everyone in every new group. In every group there are people who want to make excuses for not posting before they even try to post. We all see the same people day to day in life. We all know someone who goes to the boss at least every other week and says something like, "There is a chance I might be late one day next week. The left rear tire on my wifes car was low three days ago and I took it to the C-store and put air in it. If it goes flat this weekend I will have to give her a ride to work next week and then take the tire to get it fixed." Then they show up late next Thursday and when you ask them why and mark it unexcused they say "Well, I told you last week I would be late." Some bosses coddle people enough that they would console the guy and excuse him for being late. I am the asshole who would have told him in the first place, "Look, the tire store is open until noon on Saturday. I suggest you get your ass out of bed and take the car there and have the tires rotated and checked so you can be to work on time next week. Because if you think I am going to excuse your tardiness so you can focus on your X-box Saturday morning you have another think coming."
Posting roll is as important to me as it used to be to make sure I always had dip. Anything else will lead to failure.

I should have quit sooner. But at least I can say I have turned fifty without being a dipper.
