Title: Dipping in law school
Post by: blat1 on August 14, 2011, 02:41:00 PM
Hey, first post here. My quit starts tomorrow (I had one this morning, and it would be disingenuous to start today). I am dreading this, but reading this forum for the past few days has made me want to be a part of this community. I am 24, and I live in Florida. I started like a lot of people do; shitty peer pressure from my teammates in high school (football). Here I am 6 years later with a nasty addiction. I will beat it.

I was wondering whether anyone on here went to law school/quit while in law school. I am starting my second year tomorrow, so it is a good time to start fresh, and dip free. My consumption has skyrocketed since I started school, and I will go through 1-2 tins a day while I am studying. It is a bitch, and I have to stop. So, if anyone had a similar experience quitting while in law school could you send me a PM or post here with some advice? I truly appreciate it. I look forward to joining everyone in November 2011 tomorrow morning.

(By the way.. any Buffalo Bills fans here??)

I object.

Why the hell would you quit tomorrow instead of today?

Toss your can and post day 1 now.

Don't worry you'll fit in fine with all the other ghey ass lawyers here.

I am trying to do this on the up and up. I thought it would be frowned upon to post when I had one earlier in the day. Fuck, lets do it.

LISTEN UP YOUR HONOR. YOU WILL DO THIS. You will stand high above the court room with your bible of Quit to your left, your gavel of revenge to your right and I, your humble bailiff at your side. Each retched nic bitch that enters your arena of truth will be struck down with vengeance and words of your Quit. To the gallows you will send them each and everyday without hesitation, without mercy. Your desire to bring justice to this land while ridding the world of the heathen lying succubus of tobacco will make you worthy of glorification. All this will be yours.

It will be hard to defend a client when you can't speak with no jaw. Quit today. Dip doesn't make you study better. A man takes on challenges and does his business with a clear mind. I quit today with you. And f--- the Bills except for Steve Johnson (fantasy team). Pats, baby!

Blat - Congrats on your decision to quit. It is the best decision that you have ever made. You have chosen freedom over slavery. Understand, however, that freedom must be earned. You will have dark moments. We call it the "suck." Embrace it. It is your body healing. You will also have moments where you can't concentrate, you are irritable, can't sit still. This is dip fog. Embrace it. It is your mind rewiring itself. You, sir, are beginning a journey to rid your soul of the most addictive substance known to man. You know this. You also know you can't do this by yourself, which is why you are here. They key to success is to post roll every day. It is accountability that sets this site apart. The value that you place on your word is what will set you free.

PS - I am one of those ghey ass lawyers here. Others are gmann and Aglawyer. I am a commercial litigator in a very large firm. I remember what it was like to be a junkie addict in law school. If you think there is stress now... Well, I'll just say you have picked a good time to declare your freedom. If I can do it, so can you. If there is anything I can ever do to help your quit, PM me.

Glad to know there are others who have been through the quit, and understand the rigors of law school. I know this is probably a more stressful time to quit than waiting until after school is over, but I cannot wait. I need to move on with me life. I plan to be as accountable as everyone else is expected to be. I know it will be difficult, but so are most important things in life.

Commercial litigation. That has to be fun. That is what I want to do (or in-house corporate law). I just finished Business Associations and fell in love with it. I will definitely PM you if need be. Thanks for the support!

X2. I only wish I had been smart enough to quit in school. The pressure will only increase upon graduation. You don't need nic to learn evidence. Any thought to the contrary is the addiction talking. Read all you can here. The education you can receive here on quitting this addiction is priceless. Yell if you need anything.

And I would wish the same for you and the Bills but it would be redundant.

Buffalo is only good for wings.

Eric Mangini dips and he is a doosh. Don't be a Mangini.

I am trying to read all I can here. Every time I feel a craving I peruse the site which seems to help.

Ironically enough, I am reading for Evidence right now. haha

Sadly I used to be a die hard Browns fan (and still am a casual fan of theirs) until I went to school in Buffalo, so I know how much of a douche Mangini is. All I care about is that either the Bills do not lose every game, but they lose enough games to get Andrew Luck. I am sure the Pats will help us with that goal.

Blat1, I too went to law school. I dipped and chewed through school, 20+ years as a prosecutor and 5 years on the bench. The sooner you quit the better. The key for me was finally admitting I could not controll it. All attempts to limit my dip (ie. this is my last dip when I finish this can, I will only dip when outside, etc) were miserable failures. Leaving the bench at noon, going to my car for a dip and "relaxing" with a dip at lunch was the norm.

I agree with the other lawyers on this board. Now is the time to quit. The pressure does not lessen after school. NOW is the best time to quit. I'm not as techno savvy as others, but you can get my e-mail through this board and I will respond and help any way i can.

Thank you, your honor. It has been tough, but I made it through an entire day of classes without a dip. I haven't done that since high school. One day at a time..

People who should know better are creating problems for a lot of the newer quitters..
I will tell you, as one of these new quitters (Day 2, longest I have ever gone), what you said impacts me a hell of a lot more than what some of these assholes are doing. Quite frankly, I could give two shits right now if someone else caves; I am just starting out and I would rather read about someone gutting it out (you, and many others on here), than some clown who does not have the balls to quit.

And, when I do read the bullshit that they are up to, it is not fucking it up for the newer guys (or at least this is true in my case). Frankly, they are emboldening me to stay strong. Sure, I could have caved today after sitting in boring ass class for 6 straight hours without a dip, and then going to another 2 hour class without having one all day. I could have done it and not told any of you, or just ignored the site for a few days, or whatever else these guys do. But you know what? I did not cave. I did not want to be anything like the guys who are getting their asses chewed out (no pun intended) right now. Because of their bitching and moaning, and their weakness, I did NOT cave today. Fuck them.
Blat you have my support 24/7. That's the kind of attitude that leads to quit. You'll have to fight along the path but getting your mind right forces your ass to follow. Congratulations on your quit and reach out when things get hard, post roll everyday, stay involved and you will preclude yourself from joining the stinking pile of waste that is the gutless nameless caver convention.

Protect your quit. Be smart. If you want to make a change, then do it. I'm with you.
