Title: DeathByChocolate!
Post by: deathbychocolate on June 27, 2014, 12:49:00 AM
Hey guys,

I'm new to the whole forum thing so bear with me. As I have been quit for just over a year I wanted to share how I did it (You cold turkey guys are BA, I could never do that). Anyway, after the heart palpitations, stress, high blood pressure and cancer scares, I knew I had to kick the habit, but couldn't do the cold turkey thing. So, I switched to pouches because they are easier to measure and methodically weaned myself off. Started with two pouches, 1-2 months later, switched to 1 pouch(this was the biggest drop of nicotine and hardest), 1-2 months later started tearing the pouch in half, and so on until I could barely feel the dip in my lip. And before I knew it and with a lot of anxiety came the day I didn't put anything in and because of the weaning it was much easier than when I had tried cold turkey before. Not without cravings, just a lot easier. I also still use some of the tobacco alternatives and chew gum a lot for the oral fixation, but didn't have cravings for the nicotine after the first few months of my quit. I liked the weaning because I could drop the intake when I felt I could, but the one rule I had was to NEVER EVER increase the amount I had been pinching. Anyway hope this helps somebody.http://z5.ifrm.com/9081/145/0/e39180//e39180.gif (http://z5.ifrm.com/9081/145/0/e39180//e39180.gif)

You using nicotine in any form?

How shitty was it during the weening process? Cold turkey is rough, but it is relatively fast.

Nice guys, rule out weaning when it could help somebody. Yes wastepanel, I did wean and to me it was much better that way. I don't use any tobacco anymore. BTW Grady and Slinger, I would rather wean for 6 months or a year and quit than keep dipping cause I couldn't do cold turkey. The weaning process let's the nicotine receptors slowly die instead of giving you that stress of starving them suddenly.

Weening doesn't work that way my friend.

But it doesn't matter as you are quit now. That, sir, is ba.

We post roll here, and you are welcome to post with us. How long ago did you last have nicotine?

Read everything here (http://forum.killthecan.org/forum/55560//)

And then visit your group in September 2013. Introduce yourself, and let them know your circumstances.

Glad you're quit now. How'd you find us, and why after a year?

So no nicotine what so ever for the last year? No nicorette gum or patches, no e-cigs, nothing! It's not just about the tobacco its about the nicotine

I for one tried weening before. This time I am glad to say I let the receptors die of starvation. For you "deathbychocolate" glad it worked. At least you are quit now.

Damn right I've been without nicotine or tobacco for over a year. Guess I should have posted this in the "planning to quit" page.

Are you trying to advertise the gator seed or whatever?

And thanks Raider, I never thought I would or could quit, but those health scares and wanting to be around for two kids are what made me do it.

Nope, you're in the right spot. This is where you introduce yourself. Tell us a little about your life and why you quit nicotine.

Happy to have you posting roll with us, but we quit cold turkey here. I commend you on quitting regardless of your method, but if you are planning to hang around the forums or the chat room and suggest to a new quitter that "weaning" is a valid option, then you are not welcome. We are nicotine addicts, and firmly believe that it should not be input into our bodies under any circumstances.

Gotta agree with KO on this one. Weening is for Lite. KTC is an extreme Cold Turkey quit site. If you cannot support that then you may have joined the wrong group. Still glad for you that you are quit but cold turkey is how KTC rolls.

Weaning is a logical approach. But, the nic bitch is not logical. I've tried weaning before, and it resulted in longer withdrawls and increased anxiety. I had set up a schedule: every two weeks take it down 1 dip a day, that's all...go from 5 dips a day to 4 dips a day - you wouldn't believe the anxiety that caused. All along with the nic bitch in your ear.

Cold turkey is the most effective way - No nic means no nic. plain and simple

btw - this method usually lasted about 3 days for me in the past

I weaned for 30 days with a patch before I quit. All I got for weaning was going through the SUCK twice. Glad it worked for you and are nic free, but the KTC is about cold turkey.

I've got one question about the ween. How the heck did you cut a pouch in half? You ever had one bust open in your mouth? I am genuinely interested in how you did that.
