I used to call myself the big dipper. I am a stay at home dad/student/part time worker at the Home Depot. I am at the end of day 2, and my world is still vibrating. Quitting drinking was easier than this. Wish me luck.

Nope. Not gonna wish you "luck", because luck has nothing to do with quitting.
Luck is finding a $10 bill on the street, or hitting the mystery number in your bowling league.
Quitting takes hard work, serious WANT, a big set of balls, and support.
You provide the hard work, want, and balls...we provide the support.
Why do you want to quit, by the way? You never mentioned that. Tell us a little more about you and why you are here.
We all used to call ourselves "the big dipper". Now we are proud to call ourselves QUITTERS. Join us. It's a hell of a lot better to be a quitter than some d bag calling himself "the big dipper".
I know that from experience.

Good advice here ^^^. Lots of truth. You want to be done with the poison? You gotta really want it. Drink the kool-aide. Learn it, live it, love it!

I decided to quit since I had been hiding it from my wife, she finally agreed her wanting me to stop wasnt going to make me quit and told me I had to find a way to support it without using any of her/our money. Getting a second job to support a habit didnt seem right especially when my family could use the extra money

Good work. You haven't felt "normal" in years.
Time to find your new normal. The true normal, not the one where you were dependant on a poisonous weed.
It's not gonna be easy, but is certainly going to be worth it. Keep close to this site. Some tough stretches are coming. We will help you.
Holler out whenever you feel like it.

"Good Luck" Mthompson. There you go, as you requested.
But I have to tell you man, luck doesnt have a damn thing to do with this shit. It is a decision. We dont "try" to quit here. We just "do". You see there is not "try" and there is no luck. Read all you can on the site and listen to guys like Deisel here. They will not lead you astray. This can be done, but you gotta want it. The first couple weeks suck, but hey, it is worth it and you know it. Go for it man. We are here for you. This shit really is life or death. Whats is gonna be??

Hello again, I have to be honest my wife typed my first intro because I asked her to since typing seeming impossible at the time. Yes I am quitting cold turkey except for the smokey mountain I use from time to time and am now cutting back on how often I use that. I stopped dipping a few years ago for about 30-45 days and it actually seemed easy, since then I have been trying off and on to muster the courage to face it again. Fortunately that time is now and 4 days in I am feeling good about it. My wife found this website and gave me the information and I am really glad she did, reaching out and knowing others are there winning against not dipping is a tremendous help.

You still have the biggest part of the battle in front of you.
If you use this site, and the knowledge and experience of the quitters who are here to support and guide you, you can win this battle.
As others posted - there is no luck. You either quit or you don't. This isn't a stop tobacco/nicotine for a while website, this is a quit website.
Strap it on, thank your wife for her support, but tell her to step aside, because you can only do this for you. If you plan on quitting for anyone other than yourself, you will fail.
Now you are quit. So stay strong, stay quit, and close that door!
