Hi,
This is day one for me and I just posted roll call. I just turned 28 a few days ago and have been dipping regularly for a decade. It really hit home that I have been using this long. I am over all sick of the habit and habits associated with it. No one has put pressure on me to quit. I want to do this for myself.
My brother has been quit for 381 days, with the help of this website, and I wanted to get some opinions. He quit cold turkey. I decided on a different way. I bought the 21mg Nicoderm CQ patches last night, threw away my can and put a patch on this morning. I havent seen any posts about people using the patches. Is this an effective way of quitting?

Kurt,
Nicotine is nicotine regardless of the form. You were correct, you're getting rid of the 'habit' of chewing, but you aren't addressing your addiction to nicotine. Piss on those patches, they don't do any good for you, you're still using nicotine. Cold turkey is how we roll here.
If we all could do it, you can, too. Need to break the hold nicotine has on you, and using nicotine won't do that. Also, don't post roll if you're using nicotine in any form, please. Get rid of those patches and stick around!

Yeah. The patches are a waste. You're just prolonging your withdrawal and suffering. Cut the cord and flush the patches. They are pointless. We quit nicotine here.

Hi Slug,
I just took off the patch and threw it in the trash. Here we go! FML!

Nicotine... Not dip... Is the problem here. That is the addiction. Using a patch is just a different delivery system for the same drug you are addicted to.
We are a no nicotine site. End of discussion.
Rip off/ throw away those patches and let's do this for real.
Until you do that... This isn't the place for you.
Now is an excellent time to quit.
Do it.
Edit: just saw previous post! Rock n roll man.

Thanks. Patches are in the trash. One day at a time.

Notice my join date and quit date. I patched for 30 days because in March I knew more than the people who have quit, and even though they asked me to man up and throw the patches away, I slunk off into my corner and hid for 30 days with a band aid on my shoulder.
So what did the patch do for me you ask? Well, I got to go through withdrawals twice, how smart is that?
You are doing the right thing by trashing the patches. Listening to the quitters here is a smart thing to do. The next 3-4 days will probably suck bad, but it would have sucked anyway with a patch, and now you don't have to do it again.

Good move on the patches, kurt. Listen to Thumble, he has been there, done that.

I love when this happens. Way to man up Kurt. Be ready for the grind. If your brother can do it so can you.
