Day 1. I just removed my last dip. My name is Corey. I am 33 years old. I've used tobacco for around 20 years I think. I am one of those lucky few that isn't addicted to the nicotine. I really enjoy the flavor of Copenhagen and if I have a dip in my mouth I'm not eating. Well, today I am done. No more of this mess.

I am one of those lucky few that isn't addicted to the nicotine.
I have no idea how you can come to this conclusion.
I will figure that you are distraught and in the fog. If you are serious and want to quit, you are definitely in the right place.
Please take the time and study the site. Read, read and then read some more.

What I should say is this: Comparing myself to other people who I have watched quit tobacco use, I do not get irritable. I don't get the jitters. I am certainly addicted to something but the nicotine just doesn't seem to affect me in any way.

Wow. This is going to be real easy bro...not being an addict and all. Me? Oh I am a hardcore claw the walls, pour a spitter through a coffee filter to "re-dip" a taste of cancer candy kind of addict. Thankfully I found this place and figured who I am in this world. I do it one day at a time.

Whatever it is that I keep coming back to, I need help with it. That is why I am here.

CopeNope....I'm new here, and no expert on the site or "addiction" but I have read A LOT on this site. MANY articulate people have put their hearts and souls into it...and of course there are those darn facts too.... So, point is: I agree with the last writer....go to home page, facts/figures...additional resources...amazing stuff their. read old posts....bottom line is that these people who have been through all this--they actually get it. For me I've been laughing out loud and trying not to be depressed at all that I've read on this site---I don't feel alone anymore and you aren't either. Read and read more...the people here actually call it like it is. it sucks to hear it but I hope you still listen to a lot of dudes who actually understand this shit because they've been there....we all got ourselves into this and now we just want to get ourselves out. Preferably alive and with our teeth.
Most importantly, you are here. If you really think you aren't addicted--that's awesome. I hope its true! Let's all prove it together. I've tried so many times. I thought I could "take it or leave it"...in my case--all BS and denial. I've known if for a long time--that i have a huge problem. I'm actually a little scared finally. Anyway, for what it's worth I think this group of people are the most real I've ever heard. The one day at a time thing...its fuckin real. i think I'm doing great and then i nearly loose it. One. day. at. a time. its real. I'm only 4 days into KTC but I have always caved when I tried by myself--and like most of us here,I've tried to quit so many times its humiliating. Now I actually feel some kind of team spirit. it's awesome. First time in a very, very long time that I've asked for help. Its working so far.
so Corey--just don't chew anymore...if you're really not addicted, then, piece of cake--you'll just cruize through no problem. If you are...you are in good company because we want to change our lives and we are all humble enough to put it out there. No More Poison.

You need help with a nic addiction. Surrender to that FACT and it will an easier quit.

Does anyone here chew gum? If so, did you ever go through an entire pack quickly? Like, when the flavor starts to die you start a new piece(s)?

There are a lot of things people do to fight a craving. Some people us the fake "herbal" snuff, some use shredded ginger, oddly enough - a lot of people swear by atomic fireballs. Some people chew gum. Whatever keeps you from ingesting nicotine, is good in my book.
(except alcohol - greatly limit that for a little while, it's a quit-killer).
BTW, there is a page on dip/snuff alternatives someone on the site. Check the welcome page.

What I am getting to here is that when I chew gum I can'.... heck. I have no control. That's what it is. That's why I am so freaking huge. I need lots of help.

Hold the mother fucking phone...do you seriously think you're not an addict?????
Here's what I think...you'll cave in a month, because you are such an addict. Taste, how bout you come lick my asshole for awhile instead, has the same taste

CopeNope - I'm just a newbie on this site and only two days into my quit, so I don't intend to speak for anyone or with any authority. I'm an addict to nicotine and my only goal here is to quit and to be quit with my brothers and sisters on this site. I think you may be missing your addiction to nicotine because you've identified that you have an overindulgent personality. It might be a problem that you have no self control with (gum, food, dip, whatever...) but I promise you that if you used dip for any significant amount of time and frequently, NICOTINE plays a role in your tobacco use. Just don't discount its involvement in your tobacco use, it could come back to bite you. I look forward to quitting with you bud.

Cope you need to admit you are an addict, that is the very first step. You did it for twenty years! Did you do it because you liked to spend five bucks every day? NO. This makes no sense at all, if you aren't an addict why do you need help quiting?? 'bang head'

Why waste your time on this joker? Why would someone land on this site if they didn't seek help battling their addiction? He's either delusional or a washed up caver. Either way, don't waste your breath. Put your efforts into controlling your addiction and supporting the people doing the same.

Not addicted... Any other feeble attempts at humor coming up soon?
We're here to be your help dude, but face up you're addicted. There's your starting point. We can move on from there and work through this.

yes, day 2 here and chewing gum and hard candy all day, better than grinding my teeth

As long as you aren't stuff cancer candy in your mouth we are winning. Chew gum. Chew rocks. As long as your pie hole is free of worm dirt you are on the path.

What Soul said.
As an aside, spicy cinnamon flavored gum is good for the quit.

Cope, your on the right path with coming to the site but the mindset you have may set you up for failure. Although it is difficult to accept that you are an addict and dependent on something aka the nic, it is crucial that you accept this fact if you want to be successful in your quit.
For me, all of my previous "quits" have failed not in the first week or two, but a month or so down the road. You begin to tell yourself, "see I'm not an addict, I was able to make it this far easily" and you cave and jump right back into the can a day habit. Now that I have accepted the fact that I am addicted or whatever you want to call it, I recognize these thoughts of taking a dip as a "reward" for my quitting success, as the nic bitch sitting in the back of my mind waiting for the right time to jump in and get me back on the packing train. I have learned to tell myself that dip/nic is not an option.
Although it may not be a physical addiction to the nic, many of us have that mental addiction. In that certain situations, people, or activities are connected to dip and that forms an addiction in itself.
Everyone here is just trying to help as much as possible and the veterans have seen many people come, half-ass a quit, and then disappear, and they are just trying to help you so you don't disappear some of the others

DAY TWO.
I hope 98 days later you can give us all the middle finger as you enter the HOF...I hope
-
Cope brother,
First three days blow. Keep it going on. If you need to go through six packs of gum each day, do it. Also, gum tends to wear your mouth out. Walk into Wal-Mart or 7-11 and ask for some Smokey Mountain -- either 'classic' or 'wintergreen' -- whatever flavor you dipped. They suck but man they allow you taste and spit dip without the nicotine.
You got this, dude. I am a 20+ year veteran of dipping and never figured I could go more than 24 hours without it (and never fucking tried!), but I'm on day 11 right now and I want to give the tobacco companies the finger. If I can do this, you can, too bro!

And thanks, everyone. I do appreciate the support.

Great job so far CoNo.
Today is going to suck. But, embrace it. You are more than a little tin of snuff. After you post, get on here as much as you can. Post your thoughts in your group, PM your group members, read everything you can (look back at older groups - we all went through this), jump into chat (saw you there tonight - chat is great at getting your mind off craves). I would not - repeat, would not - go into any gas station/convenience store right now. Too much of a crave. Send your wife/girlfriend/seeing eye dog/tranny friend whomever to get some smokey moutain if you need it. I sent my wife to get seeds for me during my suck. Only 7-11 has dill pickle seeds, unfortunately, they also have DeadSeal. I still dont go in there even after 48 days. Drink water and juice, exercise, and quit. All day, just for the day. Then wake up, piss, post, and quit again then next day. I'll quit with you.
-
Good to see you hangin in there, Cope. God knows I'm pullin for ya, and things will eventually get better.. But they will never become perfect. We're all here to go through it together though, that's the beauty of it. Give me a holler if you need anything!

It's been 97 days Bruce.
I have learned quite a bit in that time. I'll share it all with you soon.
