Hello everyone,
I am new to KTC. I am a 27 year old father of two who has been chewing since I was 17. I quit for good on May 19, 2016. So, only on day 13 right now but it is significant progress. Prior to May 19, I had not gone more than 36 hours without chew for a decade. I feel like a brand new person, in some good ways and some bad. Very edgy still but less thinking about mouth cancer.
I am using fake dip and nicotine gum. The nicotine gum very sparingly, actually haven't touched that in the last few days. So tough when all of your habits revolve around a fat lip for all of your adult life. At least for me, it is.

Yikes - nic gum is nicotine. Get rid of that crap. Your quit date is the day you quit using nic and not the day you quit using chew. The last day you had the nic gum is your new quit date. If you last had nic gum on 5/28, your day 1 is 5/28.
Throw that shit away and get on here and post in the September 2016 group. No nicotine means no vapes, cigars, cigarettes, chew, snuss, nic gum, nic patch, ANYTHING with nicotine in it. Burn it and get it out of your system.

It's funny to see the differing opinions of people regarding gum/patches. I have a tobacco cessation program through my employer who urges gum or patches. I don't mess with the patches and I've had about 5 pieces of gum. Mostly because I don't feel any effects from the gum - probably didn't chew it right.
I don't disagree that nicotine sucks in any form but was just pointing out how different attitudes are towards the gum/patches.

Just to be clear - this site is no nicotine of any form and the admins/moderators of this site are very clear on that. If you want to be a part of it in helping you quit (which believe me, it will if you sign up for it), ditch all forms of nic.
I hope you join up and toss all forms of nic in your possession and join KTC! It will save your life literally. Nicotine is the battle and it isn't just cancer but heart disease, kidney failure, diabetes. Join up and get the freedom you deserve from being a slave to nic all of those years!

The one thing you'll be schooled on, thoroughly, is that cold turkey is the only truly effective option.
We are not a replacement therapy site.
It's the height of idiocy to use the drug you're addicted to as the cessation method.
Do you really wanna quit? Do it our way... you won't be disappointed in true freedom.

I am chaw free since 5/19 with 5 pieces of nicotine gum in the few days after the quit date. Which is what I thought the focus of this site would be on. But you folks want to make me feel like an idiot for chewing (most likely ineffectively) a few pieces of nicotine gum? I have a strong support system in place. Thought I could strengthen it more here.
Hope you all enjoy a nicotine-free life!

Obviously not ready to quit with that attitude. When you are ready, ditch all forms of nicotine and join up.
And yes - 147 days in, I'm definitely enjoying my life free of all forms of nicotine!

I for one am glad you have decided to put down the can. We all have to decide how we are going to rid ourselves of nicotine. I have tried the gum in the past but went right back to the can since I still craved nicotine. I also know a guy who quit smoking 13 years ago but still uses the gum today. What we do here is simple, we sack up and quit all forms of nicotine. Not replace one form for another. It might seem like we are being hard asses or dicks but the fact of the matter is we all Posted a Day 1 and then we Focused on the next 24 hours and then post roll for day 2 and then put that shit on repeat. If you are truly ready to quit for your self and not quit because of your kids, wife , family or who ever else that is close to you then rip the band aide and post up. By the way I have two girls at home and a wife that asked me to quit more times than I care to remember but it took me wanting for me to to get to today and 127 days quit

The only way to quit is to divorce the whore stop being a slave......

What was idiotic, was dipping in the first place and guess what, we're all guilty of that. It's fine that you messed around with Nic gum, you weren't quit then. If you have stopped using it and all other forms of nicotine and have a deep desire to stay that way, then you are quit now and we can help with that.
Now surely there are people in the world that have been able to transition off using NRT. Whether they actually made the process easier or just drew it out and prolonged the withdrawal is for others to debate. But this site is a 100% nicotine free, cold turkey solution because that is what WE need here. For us, any flex, any leniency, anything other than zero tolerance is an excuse to start using again - so we make no room for it.
Now you said that you only used the gum a few times, didn't find it effective. Why not just dump it then? Why bother carrying around a crutch if it doesn't even help with the limp? Glad you have a solid support system in place, but why not strengthen it by getting on board here?
This isn't a support group, if that's what you're looking for. While you will find tons of support, this is foremost a Quit site and that comes from accountability and the ability to cut through and call out bullshit.

Yeah, these guys are dicks here. I came in with a nicotine patch, and the big meanies made me take it off. But I showed them and wore it for 30 days before I took it off. Ha.
Oh yeah, going through withdrawals twice wasn't fun. But I still showed them.
And all they showed me was how to save my life. That was 2 years ago. Why come here with an attitude and thinking you know how to quit - but yet are still looking for advice? The things they told you are NOTHING to what they called me and told me. Yet I chose to quit their way.......and haven't looked back.
In order to quit, you need to put your ego in check, and listen to the quitters before you, we want nothing more than you to be quit with us.

This needs to be read. It's simple math gwill. If you want real support everyone here will go above and beyond for you. Nic gum is Nic. Plain and simple. Throw that crap out bud.

This is just information. Though I do agree with the folks that you haven't quit you have just switch methods. The patches, in Oklahoma that you can get free (Gum included), is part of the tobacco settlement. Guess who makes those patches and gums? The Nicotine companies. Guess who is keeping you hooked and has a greater chance of keeping you on the Nic Bit(h? The Nicotine companies. Guess who also makes and sells them publicly (Probably under a brand like Bayer. And yes they would because bayer is a chemical company that makes chemicals known as Neonicotides which is used to kill bugs on plants. I know because I work at one of the largest nurseries in the world)? Nicotine companies. So. What have we learned? The Nicotine companies are the ones that control whether you quit or not. You actually have a greater chance of quitting if you go cold turkey than patches or gum.

I don't have anything to add. The reason you found this place is because you were seeking help for an addiction that has stolen from you than either 1) you realize, or 2) you want to admit. You're still filling Big Tobacco's coffers by using the gum. You don't need it. It's just a different kind of leash to keep you tethered to the pole. Just quit. It's scary at first, no doubt, but I promise you it will be worth every second if you commit to it.

You aren't an idiot. But you are an addict. I wonder if cigarettes would help you quit chewing? Or cigars? Or one of those douchebag e-cigs? Then line patches up and down your back... Same thing as nic gum, my addict friend.
No one is attacking. Everyone is trying to help you see the error of your ways. Drop the gum. Til then, bye bye.
