Title: Down the new path...
Post by: pville on May 25, 2012, 08:56:00 PM
Hi all,

New member here...

Well, taking the plunge...on day 5 now. Been chewing for too many years, on and off for some, but it's time for me to put others and my longevity first, not my habit.

Tough day...just came on here to read some posts and gain some support. Thought about sneaking one...but ate a little, put in a herbal chew...

Not my first time quitting...last time lasted nine months or so and had a moment of weakness where I figured I could dip for a week and then turn it off...here we are four years later and I begin quitting again...

Sorry for rambling...just venting, but the urge is gone!

Thanks!

Pville,

Welcome to kTC. Like you I had many failed attempts to quit. I joined kTC and this Tim I know I am quit for good!

The program, education and support is amazing.

You are nic free right? No gum, patches, cigars. Nothing nicotine. Right?

Pm me with any questions you may have.

Welcome, I have beef quit for 73 days. It's great to be in control of my addiction!

You have been in control for the past five days. Every crave you beat down is you telling the Nic bitch that you call the shots now. You were under her control for along time though, and the nic bitch is not happy that you are changing. She is going to be a nagging bitch for a while, but everytime you tell her to shut the fuck up, she gets a little quiter.

5 days is huge. You control what you do. You can choose to chew or choose not to chew. Today you posted roll call and chose not too. Repeat tomorrow and each day quit will get a little better.

Proud to quit with you.

Day 10...

Whew...first few days weren't bad really. Had some physical ailments, stomach issues, unsure if cessation related or not, which are still ongoing.

Find myself thinking more about dipping over the last couple of days...maybe some trigger events or some cravings are the factors making it cross my mind. Just sneaking little thoughts here and there...brief fleeting moments which I quash with determination.

No weight gain so far...

Dreams at night, no dip dreams, but damn...everything else has been vivid!

Herbal dip has kept those cravings in check...

I will not succumb...

Pvile 10 days is great but without a post in your group you have no commitment and nothing to keep you from caving. If you understand rollcall and still don't post you are planning a cave!

Wt57,

Thanks, I appreciate your observations and comments.

Please place yourself in my shoes though...as a man who has worked about 100 hrs. in the last seven days, maintained a personal life, honored our veterans, and helped others along the way. Sometimes I just don't have the free time or access to a computer to get online that much.

I will try to do better in the future. Thanks and have a great day!

pville,

As a father of 4 and grandfather of 1, I certainly understand the notion of being busy.....

I want you to know that CANCER makes one VERY busy as well.

BUSY going to the oncologist

BUSY going to the pharmacy

BUSY trying to salvage ones dignity as life slips away.

BUSY writing your will

BUSY trying to explain to your loved ones why you chose your addiction over a long life with them.

BUSY trying to muster up the stomach to eat enough to keep you alive for one more agonizing day.

BUSY praying that they will not find anymore cancer in your body

BUSY regretting what could have been if only you stopped in time.

BUSY begging God for a reprieve from the pain...

At this moment, this early in your quit, it should be the MOST important thing in your life.

Otherwise Cancer will be.

I'm probably the biggest softie on the site. The whole " I don't have time to post" is total BS.

It's called priorities. You are choosing not to post.

Ok, tipping point...

Is this site for support or bitching at someone?

Really not trying to digress into a pissing match, but since I am not a quitter by nature nor can I let things go...

Carumba...since you're not my employer and they have a strict policy of no personal internet usage, no personal phone usage, and no personal contact (sans emergencies) for the first 10 hours of my business day...it's not a CHOICE to post or not...it's life. So, for the last person who was fired for logging into a message board account where I work, I will call him and tell him you said no biggie, he's got his priorities screwed up...

30yrAddict...thanks and very good points, but the MOST important thing in my life is my family...and without a job my family suffers. I am not going to let that happen over posting a roll call.

Not that posting a roll call isn't important to me, I just cannot do it some days because I can not and will not have access to logging into a computer. Please be understanding of that...if you can't, good luck in life.

pville: I think you may be missing the point here. Nobody's trying to bust your nutsack. It's just that you're talking to an audience of addicts who've learned that this method works EVERY TIME.

When we post, we stay quit. We all want you to succeed. Further, we all know that there's no valid excuse to avoid posting. You could easily exchange cell numbers with your quit brethren. If you don't have computer access, just send a quick morning text to a brother, and he'll be HONORED to post up your commitment on your behalf.

Drink the kool aide, pville. Guzzle that chit. It'll save your life.

Pville,

I do not know your life. But I certainly know your addiction and what it takes to beat it one day at a time. I have done just that for the past 472 days. In that time I have learned what makes a quitter and what makes a caver. I will tell you this: I do not know of a SINGLE successful quitter that was too busy to post roll.

I personally knew one nicotine addict that did not quit soon enough. He was my brother, and he died December 17, 2011. He died by inches over the course of 18 months of esophageal cancer. He was 50 years old.

Not looking for any condolences nor sympathy. I am simply conveying how serious this battle is.

theo3wood,

Thanks for addressing the problem and providing a solution.

Ok, fellas...I need a few people in the EST zone to pm their phone numbers so I can text on the days that I will not have computer access.

Thanks!

That is exactly right. We are just trying to show genuine concern for you. ( weird a bunch of total strangers caring about you and your quit). I'd be glad to exchange #'s if you wish.

My future friend Pville,
You are not quit. Do you understand? Do you know the meaning of quit? You have never quit dipping! You are not quit now! How can you "Tough day...just came on here to read some posts and gain some support. Thought about sneaking one...but ate a little, put in a herbal chew..." these are your lies, sorry I meant words. How can you be quit and STILL have the ability to "sneak one"???? and not have the balls or the time to post ROLL??
Quit now. Quit lying to yourself, NOW! Do you want to spend you later days in the hospital, feeding through a straw, just so you can ingest nicotine today?
What/how do think your dear family will feel? Do you think they will respect you for the money you have? Do you think after you're gone they will talk good of you or call you weakling?
YOU CAN BEAT the NIC bitch! But, must flush it all, make the commitment to yourself and for yourself only. If you quit for anyone other than yourself, you will end up angry at that person.
Think I don't know nothing about your life? Dude, I promise, you're not the greatest thing since sliced bread. Your not special. You're an addict. Yes you are. You're addicted to nicotine. you love to dip, spit, chew. Ummm, tastes good don't it?
Well, check me out! This summer would have been 30 years of dipping, 24/7. always dipping unless I was eating, sleeping, or making love. i would even dip while showering at times. Why not, I can spit right down the drain. Very cool, don't need a spit can or anthing. We've all been there!!! Oh you might say, "I don't dip that much". You're an addict of nicotine and when you decide to Quit with me, you're signing up to get your life back. You're making a commitment, a daily promise to yourself and to me that you will not dip today. We can quit, one day at a time. There is no other way, no majic formula, no gimmicks, we quit today. Everyday.
It's the greatest thing that you can do for Yourself and your family. If you can love yourself enough to quit and be quit, instead of taking another shot at quitting again, then you'll be valuable and powerful and more loving for your family. You're mind will be quicker, sharper, more creative than ever before...your job will be easier. I promise!
Pville, I am quit. day 6 for me today. Come quit with me. Commit today for yourself. Kill the can, now. It is very simple. Not easy, but very simple.
1.Post roll every a.m. (the earlier your promise the better) 2. Promise that you will not use nicotine of any kind today. 3. keep your word (your word is good, right?) 4. REPEAT next day.
